STRENGTHS
  • Internal Targeting Computers: Built-in targeting computers within the gun's systems allow for near-seamless communication between the main rangefinders in the bridge and the individual gunner crew inside of the turret, enabling far more accurate firing than most. And in the event the primary rangefinder is disabled, the guns will still be able to fire accurately on their own.
  • Heavily Armored: The Mk-001 Naval Cannons have built-in armor of similar caliber to the "Golden Dragon", enabling them to take quite the beating before needing to be evacuated and repaired.
  • Crew Stations: The gun has four crew stations, meaning that the process of aiming, firing, and loading are all significantly faster when fully crewed, and the gun can take several casualties before being disabled.
  • Autoloader: In order to speed up the reloading process, an autoloader was installed into the guns to allow for near-instant reloading during combat and training scenarios.
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy: Due to its immense weight, the turret struggles to turn at a fast rate, rendering it nearly useless against faster ships at close range.
  • Crew Stations: Although it has far more survivability due to its crew capacity, the turret requires double the amount of crew as a normal Naval cannon, forcing more crew space to be devoted to guns and taking away space for extra maintenance or security personnel.
  • Auto-Loader: Due to the nature of the Autoloader, a large portion of the ammo is stored directly inside of the turret, significantly increasing the risk of premature ammo detonation if the turret is pierced by gunfire.
  • Long Range Primacy: Due to its weight and the caliber of its guns, the Mk-001 Naval Cannon is all but impractical at close range against highly maneuverable craft, meaning it has to be supported with an array of secondary naval cannons to prevent this weakness from being exploited.
DESCRIPTION
Following an extremely difficult heist, Leenic determined that the best way to guarantee the odds of success for his group was to design a somewhat cheaply produced ship that could be used as a fleet flagship during naval engagements. To supplement this need, Leenic devised several Naval cannons from the pre-existing VLD2261 Defense cannon, retrofitting its design so as to mount it atop large naval craft such as battlecruisers and similarly heavy ships.

His personal ship, the Dragon, was the first to be outfitted with these, making her an extremely dangerous foe at long range.

I'll be taking over this submission.

While it does seem to be a standard cannon overall there is one element of it that I'm feel needs to be looked at.

Etheric Ammo: Due to the specialized nature of the Etheric Cannon, it can blast straight through anything short of an Etheric Shield, rendering most ships much easier targets for the "Golden Dragon"
The Etheric technology is meant to be a way to reproduce normal technological effects in star wars through another means. As such, any attacks based upon the Etheric technology should be lockable through conventional means. How exactly does this tech allow these cannons to bypass normal shields?

Also, please be aware we do not allow absolute language in the factory since the defender is the one who calls hits and who calls damage. Therefore you can't be sure any weapon will pierce the shields of another ship.

Etheric Ammo: Due to the specialized nature of the Etheric Cannon, it is functionally similar to the Solar Ionization Cannon in that its ammunition fires through the Luminiferous Aether, which is a medium that light uses to travel. As such, it can theoretically hit any ship so long as it is not either obstructing any light from getting to it or using etheric shielding.
Updated the strength description a bit to both link it to a pre-existing technology and remove its absoluteness to it. Hopefully, that works!

That's a really good start yes!

If I understand the weapon manipulates the Ather to provide a weapon attack that bypasses normal energy shields. However, the Ather by it's very nature is meant to be immaterial, something that is only affected by technology such as the Etheric Rudder. Am I to understand that the weapon here gives it physical form? I don't really understand why being protected from light has any impact on the submission.

I think the example of a Solar Inionization canon is a good one to work off, however a solar ionization cannon has significant weaknesses. While it will penetrate standard shields, molecular shields, or reflective armour effectively nullify it. I'd like to see similar weaknesses assigned to this weapon. I understand it's a space-based weapon, but currently, it seems to be effectively unbeatable.

So, to my knowledge, the way that the Aether functions is as a separate medium for light to travel through, so the Naval guns harness this medium by temporarily launching the beams into the Aether so as to bypass any form of shielding that does not directly interact with the aether. This being said, the light has to be able to physically travel from the source to the target, meaning that if the target was not in direct line of sight (say, behind an asteroid, another ship, or other form of obstruction) the beam would still collide with whatever was in front of it, simply bypassing the shields.

Ill update description, strengths and weaknesses if this all sounds somewhat fair to you

The Etheric modulation component has been retroactively denied. I would suggest that you rework this into your take on a Solar Ionization Cannon. Please let me know if you would like this submission moved back to the pre-factory for you to work on.
