Militaristic Visitations

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
"The Carida is an admittedly luxurious soda can, though. Most of the modern TIEs aren't as cramped as their older counterparts, thanks in part to new electronics that allow for much thinner panels and consoles. Still, the Carida isn't admittedly that durable, though I would certainly call it superior to the original TIE Fighter. But don't worry, this is just a simulator. When combat training begins, the enemy ships, along with your own, will be equipped with reduced-power weaponry that so far hasn't caused significant damage to any Carida."

He smiled. This sort of training program was one of his dreams for the Imperial navy, and finally, it was coming to pass.

Ivy had no reply for the Admiral's words, though she thought on them plenty. The woman turned her attention to the panel before her and engaged the simulator.

She wasn't sure exactly how much time passed then. Engrossed in the act of learning, the epicanthix warrior set her mind to it with as much dedication as the lessons taken on her home planet so very long ago. Knowledge was a priceless thing, her father had told her back then, and knowing more could only enhance the value of her skills.

Flying a ship like the Carida would prove to be a skill easily enough attained. They weren't so unlike the personal fighters she'd flown before, though it would definitely take time to get used to the sensitivity of their handling. The Admiral had excused himself at some point, likely to tend to all the numerous duties an Admiral had, and when he returned was when she finally threw in the towel.

"Right," Ivy said, pulling the helmet from her head, "I don't think there's anything more to be learned from this." There were only so many new tricks for an old dog to learn, especially one already as highly-versed as she. Cringing as she unstrapped herself from the seat, Ivy slowly pulled herself from the simulator, rubbing at her sore shoulder, "What's next."

"Next, we fit you in the real Carida and see just how well you perform against our "enemies" today - You'll be facing off against two wings of TIE Detonators, unshielded, of course, and a wing of Fragmentor-class Target Drones armed with missiles. Don't worry, though - the weapons' firepower on their and your craft have been significantly weakened, and the missiles the drones are using are fitted with dummy warheads. No worries. We'll graduate you to full-power missiles soon enough. As a consequence, though, your ship does not have shields equipped, though the puny single light lasers of the Detonator won't do more than leave burn marks."

Training was about to begin. Hopefully, all three stages of basic training could be completed within a short span of time so she could proceed to intermediate and advanced training.

Ivy walked stiffly alongside the Admiral as they made way for the hangar and the real Carida ships. Silent on the whole, when they stepped into a lift she recognized her social faux pas. What was it people said at times like these?

"...great," the offering was with a muted enthusiasm. Ivy raised her brows a bit to make up for it.

Arriving on the proper level, the Merc made her way back to square one and the Carida that was "her's" to learn in. She stood staring at it for several long moments, expression stoney and unresponsive. A glance was given towards several other young Pilots heading towards their own crafts, debating animatedly about something. They were young, they were alert, they were keen to do some damage.

Ivy snorted. They wouldn't know damage if it bit them on the-

"All fueled and ready to go out on her maiden voyage," a droid mechanic rounded the Carida.

"...great," Ivy reiterated before moving to climb in. Pulling the safety harness and helmet on, she fired up the tiny fighter's engines with a fluid motion of her hands over the command keys and switches. The Carida lightly lifted from the ground, wavering as Ivy adjusted her eye-hand co-ordinative memory from her years spent flying freighters. After a moment she brought it around to fall in line behind the others, following the directives on her HUD screen out of the hangar bay and into open space.

Ivy was part of a wing of four pilots, the most experienced of the bunch. "Welcome to basic training, pilots. All four of you have been through flight training and have checked out as pilots in the TIE Carida. But today, things will get very tricky. You'll be facing off against the TIE Detonator, an extremely fast drone capable of outmaneuvering most interceptors in the galaxy, even our TIE Taral. As well, some Fragmentor-class Target Drones will also be brawling with you. They're slow, but they have heavy shields and missile launchers. If you're hit by one, you will be out. Dead."

"Your goal is to destroy the Fragmentors - representing bombers - without being destroyed by them or their escort. Good luck."
