Shield Gate Components

- Heavy Duty Shield: Utilizing molecular shielding the shield itself is capable of not only deflecting and neutralizing a variety of attacks, it is also capable of absorbing some level of the energy it encounters to convert back reserve energy for the powering the shield itself.
- Isotope-5: Implementing the synthesized fuel version of Isotope-5 the network has a theoretically limitless power supply as well as chemical based ion and electromagnetic resistance.
- There is no determined effectiveness against ion effects, but the substance has chemical effects on electromagnetic fields in way of distorting them. - Planet Grade: As it's name suggests it is a shield designed to protect the planet from an immense amount of firepower, especially long range fire from starships.
- Ion Protection: Each installation within the network is faraday caged with silver to prevent electromagnetic complications.
- It's a Network: The most glaring weakness of the Mikkoni Planetary Shield is that it is a network of four installations spread across the planet's surface as well as a shield gate orbiting the planet. Two facilities are at the planet's north and south poles and two at relative points on either side of the planet's equator. If any one of these facilities should be shut down the entire shield would come down systematically in a matter of minutes; while the shield gate is necessary in the network it's destruction would lead to a much slower collapse.
- Ion Complications: While the network facilities are protected from ion and electromagnetic attack the shield itself does not block ion weaponry from being launched down at the planet through the shield itself.
- This is a weakness of the shield projection itself as it does not protect surface areas such as cities or other installations, with the exclusion of the shield network itself. - Reduced Effectiveness: Due to projecting the shield across a far more vast area than the typical limit of the shield generator itself, the effects of each shield layer, while still functioning as a functional shield, sacrifices a small amount of its effect in its more advanced areas; such as absorbing damage and converting it to reserve energy.
When subject to extensive fire over a large, but considerably concentrated area, the shield will experience disruptions that will take time for the shield to refill; this is due in part to the shield possessing no redundancy outside of it's limited reserve from energy absorption.
- The energy absorption aspect of the shield will not suffice in keeping up with some level of bombardment.
- Concentrated fire from a ship larger than 1000m for longer than a few minutes will puncture a small hole in the shield that will only grow with continued fire. - Overload Danger: Due to the volatility of its power source, Isotope-5, the is constantly under monitor and check up to prevent any instability. Should it become damaged during an attack there is a change that the entire facility could overload and destroy itself and cause a systematic shut down.
- Round The Clock: The shield cannot be monitored by computer systems alone and every station must be manned at all times. This means that should the amount of man power at some point become insufficient the entire network could become subject to a catastrophic overload.
As part of the Emperor's project for further enforce the planet's security, as well as it's place in the Confederacy's military and technological advancement, a number of scientists came together with a plan for a way to better protect the planet as a whole; inspired by the advancements made by Jaeger Solutions and Aegis Systems.
Comprised of four separate, and massive, facilities located across the planet and an orbiting shield gate, the Mikkoni Planetary Shield Network utilized these machines to project the capability of a Molecular Shield Generator across their entire planet without sacrificing a great deal of the efficiency of the specific shield generator itself. While the level of grade was redundant from an onlookers perspective the citizens of Mikko did not see it the same way.
Their planet was, for the most part, safe.
