Belonging to a sub-species genetically engineered to react more easily with sentient beings, the semi-sentient Ignine Arkanian Dragon is relatively rare. That was why, when Athena found one enslaved by a Hutt during a raid on his compound, Athena freed him. With her innate skills and Force-enhanced abilities in bonding with and communication with animals, She was able to convince her to remain with Athena, her savior.
Athena researched exhaustively for information on dragon riding. She studied the techniques used by ancient Mandalorians in the art of training and riding Lagartoz War Dragons, as well as the Dragon Riders of Poolok and the Ubese Thorn-Back Dragon Riders. Then she began to work with the dragon, who she named simply Dragon in Mando'a (Miit'alor). She moved to Mandalore itself, where they continued to train in the art of combat, integrating herself and Miit'alor into a single fighting unit.
