Intent: To create a new type of starship component for Mandal Hypernautics

Development Thread: NA
Manufacturer: Mandal Hypernautics
Model: MH-PU12 “Emergency Vector Thrusters”
Affiliation: Mandal Hypernautics, Mandalorian,
Modularity: None
Production: Mass Production
Material: Durasteel Frame, Thermal Insulation, Propellant

Description:

The MH-PU12 is a relatively simple component. The installation process begins with numerous reinforced hard points being worked into the port and starboard hull. From these reinforced areas, numerous powerful rockets are installed. What's not simple about the component is the safety measures required to protect the crew from the effects of this component. Powerful inertial dampeners must be installed throughout the ship to stabilize the internal crew and equipment before the component can be utilized.

When activated, the MH-PU12 Emergency Vector Thrusters fire a sudden and powerful burst of energy on the port or starboard side of the ship. This burst of energy shoves the ship 1km in the opposite direction in less than a second. The normal maneuvering thrusters of the starship activate to compensate for the sudden vector change and completely counter the lateral movement after a total distance of 1.5km has been achieved over 5 seconds. Due to the sudden strain that must be placed on the inertial dampeners to protect the occupants of the ship from this sudden and violent burst of speed, power is diverted away from offensive weaponry for 8 seconds. After this time, it takes a further 7 seconds for targeting computers to reacquire targets and bring weapons to bare on new headings. Long range weaponry takes additional time to reacquire firing solutions.

This maneuver is typically performed to avoid asteroids, missiles, and starship collisions. The MH-PU12 typically contains enough propellant for five emergency vector changes to port and to starboard before requiring maintenance at dry-dock to reinstall propellant.

As an unintended side-effect, the number of powerful inertial dampeners installed throughout the ship ends up making the internal areas of this ship highly resilient to the effects of high-G maneuvers (such as slingshot maneuvers) and powerful kinetic strikes impacting the ship. The ship itself still takes damage from such events, but the crew, cargo, and equipment on board barely feels the effects of such events.

Should the inertial dampeners be inoperable when this maneuver is attempted, the event will likely result in the immediate death or destruction of all living organisms, droids, and unsecured items aboard the vessel as the impact the internal bulkheads at 1,000 meters a second.

Edits made to the second paragraph and an additional paragraph was adde to the end.

Weapons are inoperable for 15 second due to the maneuver, long range weapons are inoperable for longer. Attempting the maneuver without proper inertial dampeners is 100% fatal to all occupants of the starship.
