Material: Alusteel, Durasteel, Electronics,
Description:
Like the MH-EW05, this component attempted to block all scanners and targeting computers in a given area by using broadband transmissions intended to interfere with sensors pointed towards the equipped ship. Both systems function by projecting false sensor data at a high enough power to overload the tracking and targeting computers of targeted ships. The effected ship's targeting computer will register dozens or hundreds of false contacts. And while the computer is bogged down by trying to track all of the false readings, even if an operator visually confirms a target to aim at, the computer software is slowed to a crawl and cannot keep up with the real-time telemetry to accurately predict movement and create firing solutions.
Where the two systems differ is in general strength and the focus of the beam of false sensor readings. The MH-EW07 Full Spectrum Distortion Projector is a massive turreted dish that draws a massive amount of power and projects a powerful cone of false sensor readings that covers a 11.25 degree angle and extends to Long Range Turbolaser ranges. Any ship caught within the area of effect, be they friend or foe, are effected by the beam. Ships closer to the emission point are effected more severely than ships towards the outer edges of the beam. Likewise, additional beams cause stronger distortions. Though the level of sensor disruption is roughly as effective as a single Heavy MH-EW05, the MH-EW07 draws as much power as five Heavy MH-EW05's.
A Standard MH-EW07 has a significant impact on the sensors of Cruiser and smaller ships. And thought a comparable number of Heavy MH-EW05's would have a greater impact on a single ships sensors and tracking computers, the MH-EW07 outperforms the alternative by providing a blanket of coverage without needing to target individual ships and by covering multiple ships at once. Two or more MH-EW07's targeting a single area have a compounding effect on the targeting and tracking systems of the targets and reduce the crews of Frigate and Cruiser sized targets to “Visual Targeting” only. Likewise, two or more MH-EW07's targeting a single area can effect Heavy Cruiser sized targets. Typically, a single MH-EW07 is typically more than enough to overwhelm the weaker electronics of Corvettes and smaller ships, but it can take as many as four to completely overwhelm frigate and cruiser sized targets.
Heavy Full Spectrum Distortion Projectors emit a much more powerful beam of false sensor readings. Heavy FSDP's cover a much larger area and emit a 22.5 degree cone of distortions. Even with the wider coverage area, Heavy FSDP's prove to be significantly more powerful than the standard variant. A single Heavy FSDP at optimal range can effectively jam-out Frigates and smaller ships, and is enough interference to effect Heavy Cruiser and Light Star Destroyer sized targets. Two or more Heavy FSDP's focused on a single area have a compounding effect and can begin to effect Star Destroyer sized ships, but it can take as many as four Heavy FSDP's to completely jam-out Heavy Cruiser and Light Star Destroyer sized targets.
An effected ship will suffer severe reductions to tracking speeds and accuracy as well as experience significant difficulties when attempting to scan, pinpoint, or identify particular ships. Completely jammed-out ships will suffer inaccuracy to the point of near-uselessness when attempting to use their computer-guided targeting systems and will be nearly incapable of effectively scanning, pinpointing, or identifying particular ships. Though some ships with advanced scanners such as Crystal Gravfield Traps can see through the distortions. Similarly, the presence of a skilled slicer aboard an effected ship can mitigate the effects of this weapon.
Weaponry calibrated for use at long ranges are particularly vulnerable to the effects of the FS Disruption Projector as the precise firing solutions required to hit a target at extreme ranges becomes increasingly difficult to obtain while the processors are straining to track and predict the movements of the targeted ship. Because of this, it takes significantly less disruption to neutralize Long Range Turbolasers, Heavy Long Range Turbolasers, or any other extended range weaponry. While in some cases, only a single projection is required to completely neutralize the long range weaponry of a ship. There have even been recorded incidences of FSDP's successfully restricting the Long Range Weaponry of ships far outside the intended size category of the weapon intended target.
Heavy FSDP's are large, obvious dishes installed as an offensive turret on a particular ship. They are large, unwieldy, and prone to damage in combat. There are nearly no recorded cases of any more than a single battery of such weapons being installed on a warship. Similarly, it is very uncommon for more than four batteries of standard FSDP's to be installed on a warship.
