SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Mesharra Temple
  • Classification: Ancient temple
  • Location: Chalacta
  • Affiliation: N/A; Mesharra has been abandoned for a century or so.
  • Accessibility: Mesharra is long forgotten and buried two hundred metres underground.
  • Security: None. The underground complex relied on its occupants and its remoteness for defense.
  • Description: Mesharra is a high-tech alien complex deep underneath a Chalactan plateau.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • An access panel of alien technology (pictured above) creates a bridge over a chasm, and opens a door into the complex. The access panel was designed to require contact from a Sharu/Sharuka. Explorers discovered that retuned holographic camouflage can fool the panel when combined with Sharu genetic samples.
  • After crossing the bridge and passing through the door, explorers can enter the complex. The technology within is deeply alien, to the point where understanding and repurposing its principles would take years for even the simplest applications. However, if carefully fooled by holocamouflage and Sharu genetic samples, the complex will activate. The complex is a stellar cartography facility built around a unique, long-range gravitic sensor. Though it cannot detect ships like other gravitic sensors, it can help chart brand-new hyperspace routes within the area (the three hexes adjacent to Chalacta). Seeing as Chalacta is a major destination on the Mara Corridor, proper use of Mesharra Temple can connect the Corridor to worlds nestled within Hutt Space. The security and economic angles are obvious.
  • The complex once housed twenty Sharu/Sharuka, and the barracks could be modernized fairly easily.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Mesharra Temple was an outpost of the ancient Sharu, a pre-Rakata sentient species who spent tens of thousands of years protecting themselves through a voluntary primitive state. Mesharra was revived and refitted in 60 ABY, roughly half a century after the Sharu regained full sentience and their ancestral memory. After the Gulag Plague, when the Sharuka split off from the Sharu, Mesharra became a monitoring point and waystation for the Sharukan diaspora. It lost relevance again and was forgotten during the Dark Age. The original access shaft collapsed, leaving the complex buried.

The explorer Jorus Merrill, co-creator of the Mara Corridor, discovered the front door some years ago in a deep cave. A number of quiet exploratory teams probed the complex and learned how to access it.

Mesharra's existence and nature are known only to a few senior Jedi and some members and affiliates of the Silver Jedi Order. In the modern era, the occasional Sharukan ship might find its way from Wild Space to Chalacta, and would not be pleased to find other species possessing Mesharra. Since Chalacta is so far from current Sharukan territory, however, the Sharuka have few if any force projection options, and any risk would be fairly minimal.
