OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create the native population of the Planet Mahporeem, home of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: N/A
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Merzoidian
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Mahporeem.
  • Average Lifespan: 75-80 years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary. Most Merzoidians rarely leave their planet, as they are generally isolationist by nature.
  • Description: Merzoidians are bipedal, humanoid aliens. They come in three main skin colors: green, blue and red, though other skin colors do exist. Some Merzoidians have elongated, fleshy protrusions out of the back of their heads called Vek'thara, in a similar fashion to a Twi'lek's Lekku. While nearly nonexistent on most members of the species, Vek'thara can grow quite long and large on certain individuals.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average Height of Adults: 1.6 Meters for Females, 1.77 Meters for Males
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Common skin colors include green, blue and red.
  • Hair color: Both male and female Merzoidians are fully bald on the top of their heads.
  • Distinctions: Besides their different skin colors, Merzoidians are known for their Vek'thara, the large, fleshy protrusions coming out of the back of their skulls. These Vek'thara have great cultural significance for the Merzoidian people. On most members of the species, they are nearly nonexistent, but on some select few they are rather large and long. Merzoidians believe that the larger and longer a Vek'thara is, the more destined its owner is to achieve greatness for the Merzoidian People. Nearly all important or famous Merzoidians have been those with large Vek'thara, though this has more to do with these individuals receiving specialized training and better living conditions than any inherent special abilities or superior genetics granted to them by their Vek'thara. Merzoidians are also quite fond of facial tattoos, with most members of the species receiving them at the age of maturity.
  • Force Sensitivity: Low. Some Merzoidians are force sensitive, but the majority of the species are not.
Strengths:
  • Resilient: The Merzoidian people have endured decades, if not centuries, of oppression by other groups, including the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Empire. This has instilled the Merzoidian people with a sense of resilience rarely seen in most other species.
  • Skilled Farmers: Most Merzoidians are farmers by nature, quite skilled in land management and agricultural techniques. For centuries before their planet's occupation, Mahporeem was famous for the quality of the fruits and vegetables grown by the Merzoidian People. Even today, some Merzoidians are still able to eek out a living farming despite the environmental damage done by the construction of Mahporeem's junkyards and salvageyards.
  • Intelligent: Most Merzoidians display a high level of intelligence for their species. Some theorize that this is because of the increased cranial capacity of the Merzoidian's Vek'thara, though many individuals display such intelligence despite the lack of a noticeable Vek'thara.
Weaknesses:
  • Isolationist: Most Merzoidians are isolationist by nature, content to let the events of the galaxy occur without them. This makes them initially hesitant to trust strangers, and it takes a long amount of time for them to warm up to others.
  • Pacifist: For most of their history, Merzoidians have been pacifists, as they had few enemies to contend with due to the isolation of their planet. This meant that they were woefully unprepared to deal with the invading Confederacy of Independent Systems and Galactic Empire forces.
  • Traditionalist: For some Merzoidians, Vek'thara size and skin color determines everything: your place in society, your success in life, and your eligibility to find a partner. While this form of discrimination is officially banned by the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant, it is often still practiced.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore, though mostly vegetarian. Jogan Fruit Pies, Shuura, Meilooruns, and Thakitillo are all widely consumed on the planet. Blue Milk is also produced and consumed as well.
  • Communication: Merzoidians employ a written and spoken language known as Zoidenese. Galactic Basic, however, remains widely spoken on the planet, due to the large amount of immigrant species.
  • Technology level: Though a fairly isolationist species, Merzoidians do have limited contact with the greater galaxy, and have a roughly standard level of technology.
  • Religion/Beliefs: Merzoidians have no set religious beliefs, and are free to practice their spirituality in any way they would like.
  • General behavior: Merzoidians are, by nature, farmers, and rather skilled ones at that. For centuries, they spent their lives farming the planet Mahporeem, growing high quality fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, the environmental destruction caused by the construction of Mahporeem's junkyards and salvageyards has made this way of life far more difficult for the Merzoidian People, and few still practice it. For many Merzoidians, Vek'thara size and skin color determine placement in society. The longer and larger the Vek'thara, and more exotic the skin color, the more important the Merzoidian is considered to be. These Merzoidians were often taken by the planetary government to receive specialized training, and it was seen as a great honor to have your child taken away for this purpose.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
  • It is believed that arrival of the Merzod People to Mahporeem predates the creation of the Old Republic, as the planet itself has been settled for tens of thousands of years. Prior to their arrival to Mahporeem, the Merzod People were a nomadic society, wandering across the galaxy as they moved from planet to planet, looking for a suitable homeworld to settle once and for all. They would eventually find that homeworld in Mahporeem, as the planet's stable climate and fertile soils made it the perfect location for starting a permanent planetary society.
  • Physically speaking, Merzoidians are a bipedal, humanoid species of alien, standing around 5'6" tall for males and 5'2" tall for females. The most distinct features of the Merzod People are the large, fleshy protrusions on the back of their heads. These protrusions, called Vek'thara, are of immense cultural significance to the Merzod People, in much the same way that Lekku have important meaning to Twi'leks. On most Merzoidians, these Vek'thara are nearly nonexistent, but for a select few, they are quite pronounced. Merzoidians believe that the larger and longer a Vek'thara is, the more destined its owner is to achieve greatness for the Merzod People. Nearly all important or famous Merzoidians have been those with large Vek'thara, though this has more to do with these individuals receiving specialized training and better living conditions than any inherent special abilities or superior genetics granted to them by their Vek'thara.
  • Merzoidians also come in a variety of different skin tones, including green

skinned, though other colors do exist amongst the Merzoidian population. Much like with the size of their Vek'thara, a Merzoidian's skin color is also said to designate their future success, with white or black skin seen as a particularly auspicious sign. Other racial features include pointed ears, flat noses, and a complete lack of hair on the top of their heads for both males and females.
  • Merzoidian society tends to be rather rigid, as Vek'thara size and skin color can cause difficulties for those who have "undesirable" or less impressive physical features. Today, discrimination based on these attributes is officially banned by the Imperial Remnant, though such discrimination does still persist despite attempts to put a permanent end to it.
  • Personality wise, most Merzoidians tend to prefer the company of their own kind, and have an inherent distrust of strangers due to the circumstances of their existence. However, Merzoidians are also known to be loyal, caring friends to those that they have good relations with, and are as warm and friendly as any other alien species once they get over their initial apprehension to strangers. Merzodians also have a tradition of pacifism, those this tradition has since been shattered ever since the Mahporeem's occupation by the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Empire. Indeed, many Merzoidians can be found as Stormtroopers, serving the Imperial Remnant as it attempts to expand its influence across the nearby sectors.
