That's because the system works fine. The problem isn't the server, the system. It's the people reporting these issues, because they're unaware that an accidental space at the end of their name can cause the issue, or that their notification options are set differently than default.
If there is truly an issue here, get the names of each individual person that the mention system does not work for and post them in a new thread as a Bug report. That way an Admin can check very quickly whether or not the name has a spacing issue, and we can fix it.
As for notification options, if a player has changed these, we're not responsible. At no point was the Alert system or Mention system ever guaranteed, so if a player fudged with his notification options and robbed himself of the ability to receive the Alerts necessary, Staff isn't responsible for fixing the issue.
But more often than not, there's just a space in the person's name.
