Mechanical Introduction Thread

Open to all NJO Padawans
Thomas_Pringle_08a.jpg

Jacen's most recent outing with the New Jedi Order had left him battered and bruised, both inside and out. Having returned to the Sullust Temple he had started to increase the time he spent with his son and the padawans. He had always taught new members of the Order, even since it had been formed. It was almost a cathartic activity and right now he needed time to lick his wounds and gather his thoughts.

Yet trouble always seemed to find him. Help had been requested from the New Jedi Order to deal with an incident on the far side of Sullust. One of the mech factories of the industrial world had gone awry. They suspected slicing from a foreign faction. Potentially Sith or First Order. There were no battle droids manufactured there. One wing created service droids, the other factory mechs. Nothing too dangerous regardless of the scale of the issue. It seemed a suitable outing to let the padawans stretch their abilities.

So under the late evening sun, Jacen sat on a grassy field in the artificial dome and waited. There would be introductions and then they would be away.

Perched on a nearby roof, Winter sat and waited for the right moment to fly down and introduce herself. She was nervous. She had just joined the Galactic Alliance and wanted to make a good first impression - even if that meant toning down the sarcasm. Glancing downwards, she noticed that nobody else had arrived yet, except an apparent Jedi master. Well, she was early, at least. That was a good thing, right? Excited as she was to begin her new life, she was as prone to bouts of anxiety as could be expected of her - what if things went wrong?

Winter shook her head to expel such thoughts, mentally chiding herself. No use getting worked up over small things. She knew joining the Alliance was the right thing to do. Standing up, she stretched her wings and stood ready to dive down. She closed her eyes and breathed. Three...two...one...Winter dove down towards the artificial dome, landing neatly in the field a few feet away from the man sitting down.

"Hi," she said, masking her nerves without too much trouble: "I'm Winter."

Lokthra was looking forward to seeing the other Jedi mainly because she hadn't really introduced herself to anyone. She considered this the perfect oppertunity to do so. She landed her Delta 7 Starfighter on the artificial dome, next to the other ship.

Lokthra bow's
"Greetings Master Voidstalker"

She faces the other padawan
"Greetings, I'm Lokthra, it's a pleasure to meet you"

Loktha then goes to sit behind Master Voidstalker and begins to meditate for a little bit before the others arrive.

A woman in a GADF uniform was next to cross the artificial turf. She wore an easy smile on her face, but inside her mind she was nervous. She'd never been formally trained, really. She used the Force on instinct, even though all of her force capable family members told her remaining untrained was both unwise and dangerous. She'd only recently allowed the words to drill through her obscenely thick skull, which led her to here.

She approached the group, appearing confident as only a Naval officer could, and offered everyone a nod.

"Hey there, I'm Alexandra Morrow. Most call me Lexi, or Firebrand." She introduced herself, looking from one person to another.

Winter was certainly one for dramatic entrances. Sullust was likely stifling for her species. Most of the surface was lava flows and the settlements were underground.

He hadn't seen a mirialan since Chevu had left the Order. That brought back painful memories. Her children still lived on Sulon, the moon above them, with their father.

Morrow had a military bearing, that much was obvious to a man with a decade of military service.

"And which would you prefer I call you?" Jacen asked her with a warm smile. He crossed his arms over his chest and tucked his hands into his robes. His own son had been given an invitation to join them, but he doubted he would come. Left on Coruscant for the Sith to recruit there was still a great gulf between the pair since the Alliance had taken the world back. Hasn't helped that the boy had been goaded into attacking him by his mentor and Jacen had knocked him out.

"And where are you all from and how long have you been with us?" He added to the whole group. "Apologies, but I haven't been back to the temple in some time."

Lexi glanced down at her uniform, then back to Jacen and shrugged. "This isn't a military thing, call me Lexi." She replied, looking around to the others to include them in the statement.

Jacen Voidstalker said:
"And where are you all from and how long have you been with us?" He added to the whole group. "Apologies, but I haven't been back to the temple in some time."
"I'm from Naboo..." She stated, not sure if anyone would know her to be minor nobility. It was a thing she knew she unconsciously held above others, and tried her hardest to not hold above others. It was always easier when people didn't know. "...I've only just started training with the Force, but I've been with the GADF for ten years. Started as a pilot, and worked my way up." She finished, letting it sit at that, fairly certain she wasn't in a group that would care over much for her military career, small as it was.

Was she late? She felt late! Azna had hurried with all of her might after trying to get herself ready for whatever great important mission was planned. She was excited for the chance to finally work with other padawans and a master to be involved within the Order that she was bouncing with excitement all night. Unfortunately that had kept her up later than she'd expected. By the time she awoke she'd realized she'd over slept, cursing herself before needing to hurry and wash, dress and have something equal to a decent meal before joining the others. Hurrying past other students, service droids and the like Azna ducked and dived around, showing she was at least nimble enough to work her way through a crowded hall.

Upon arriving she realized she was not the first to arrive. Coming to the door to the large dome she stopped and bent over to hold her knees, needing a moment to recuperate. She heaved and breathed as she looked up, seeing the other padawans present along with Master [member="Jacen Voidstalker"] . She dropped her head again before finally feeling ready to speak.

"I hope *huff* I'm not too late. Am I, *huff huff* Master Voidstalker?" She managed to say before giving a quick look to the others "Hello. *huff* I'm Azna."

D'vok walked casually from his ship, parked next to the dome, to the entrance. As he walked, he noticed a woman running in. She must've thought she was late. This was unfortunate for her. D'vok was not of the same belief. He had been told the coordinates to this place only an hour before, and it took him nearly forty five minutes to get the hyperdrive working. He left his lightsaber on the ship. It didn't work anyway, and besides, he wanted to make one that was his own. Learning the ways of the jedi was something D'vok was anxious about for a while now. He was still new to the concept of himself being force sensitive. He took a sip of corellian whiskey from his flask, replaced it on his belt, and entered the dome.
"Hey everybody. This is the jedi club?" D'vok inquired with confidence, giving a relaxed grin as he greeted the group.

Watching wordlessly as Padawans began to gather, Winter stayed standing as she thought over her own answer. She didn't have an awful lot to say for herself - that was why she was here today. In fact, the growing size of the group was beginning to excite her, just a little bit: it made it more real.

Ooh, her turn. She quickly cleared her throat.

"I grew up on Shar'Ack," she said, her confidence returning. "I've just joined the Alliance - I only started using the Force a little while ago."

In fact, she could hardly do anything. Following her initial discovery, she'd tried practicing, and she'd had some run-ins that had boosted her skill a little, but her knowledge of the Force was unrefined and her abilities totally basic. But she could be vague about it for now; the point was to learn, anyway.

"Hi," she quickly added, facing the newcomers.

[member="Alexandra Morrow"]

"I served almost exactly ten years before returning to the Jedi Order myself," Jacen replied.

[member="Azna Kahn"]

"Well, we haven't left yet Anza so I guess you could say you're not truly late. Pleasure to meet you."

@D'vok Windroamer

"This is indeed 'The Jedi club'. I'm Master Voidstalker and I don't think ive have the pleasure."

[member="Winter Ardmore"]

"Interesting, I haven't even heard of the planet."

He unfurled his arms and stood tall. "Well then now we're all introduced. We've had a little incident on the southern continent. An underground droid plant has gone dark, suspected external meddling with droid protocols. Most of the techs evacuated and they sealed it tight. Don't worry if you haven't had much combat training yet. We're going in with soldiers and the plant only makes protocol droids and factory lifters. If you need any gear I suggest you grab it soon as the shuttle will be here in five."

Elmont Block

Your focus determines your reality
Elmont had volunteered for the assignment. If he were to accept training from the New Jedi Order, he similarly had to accept he owed them a duty. Memories of being cast aside for a life in the AgriCorps could never be erased, but of late he thought of them less often. He was a Padawan now and had a Master to call his own. And that felt good.

Sullust was in many ways just another planet. Technically it occupied the fourth orbit from the star Sullust in the Sullust system in the Brema sector of the Outer Rim Territories region of the galaxy. He’d been here before – given it was situated on the Rimma Trade Route.

And ‘here’ was an interesting term. The atmosphere of Sullust was barely breathable, with hot and thick clouds of toxic gases released in volcanic eruptions rendering the planet’s surface lethal for sustained habitation and uncomfortable for short visits. Atmospheric blackouts occurred on a regular basis due to large gouts of smoky ash and its surface was also dangerously volatile. So time spent here was under the cover of a biodome and his trips here were short and unremarkable.

His trade runs previously were similarly unremarkable – parts for starships, computers, droids, hyperdrive technology, and astrogation technology tended to leave the planet whilst food and water were brought in. It was lucrative enough for the big traders to have sewn up most of the work and so a small-time operator like him tended to fly in food close to its sell-by date – which sometimes rotted before he even landed.

So under the late evening sun, Elmont joined the others on the grassy field in the artificial dome and waited.

Looking down at her datapad, the young firrerreo walked along the halls. Her master had simply told her to go and keep herself busy while she went and dealt with official business. Keeping herself busy seemed to be easy on Sullust, what with the hustle and bustle of the world. An alert had popped on her datapad as she arrived something for padawans who wanted to sharpen their skills or something along those lines.

Weaving her way through the crowds of people on her way to the dome where they were supposed to meet, Xena continued to read. It was a small assignment from her master, but she took it to heart. The firrerreo walked into the large grassy dome, breathing in a deep breath of "fresh" air. Looking over the group that had gathered in the dome, she safely assumed they were the people she was supposed to meet.

Calmly walking over to the group, placing her datapad into her satchel, the young padawan looked over everyone conversing. Giving them a polite bow before speaking up herself.

"Sorry for being late. The temple is kinda hard to navigate," her light voice came to her with a bit of a giggle from herself. Sure she was acting a bit childish, but she had to have some fun. Can't always be the rock hard Jedi robot. Her hearing had let her just catch the end of the briefing. The light sway of her movements from side to side, glancing over everyone with a keen eye. Xena herself was wearing some casual robes; currently missing her usual giant medical bag. Her face was alight with a bright smile; this was going to be interesting.

OOC/ sorry I've been slow, Rebellion has been busy.

Introductions were done and their transport arrived. The noise of the engines drowned out any conversation. For a time they passed over mountain ranges and lava flows, but soon they ended a tunnel to go deep into the network the sullustans had built.

Eventually they came to an enormous underground cavern. A central formation stretched from the ceiling above to the rocky ground down below. The centre of that had been mined out and turned into the droid factory, close to the raw materials mined below.

Jacen stepped down from the shuttle onto the landing platform. He had a bad feeling about this.

"Stick together and let's get into the warehouse. There's a master switch near the centre to send a shutdown signal. Let's get there and silence the place so the investigation can start."

[member="Jacen Voidstalker"] [member="Xena Amonali"] [member="Elmont Block"]

There was something about being underground. It wasn't stifling, though, a little scary to think with one rock fall and they'd all be buried alive. Something else. It felt...protected. She wondered if that's why the sith pure bloods preferred their dwellings to be mostly underground.

Purple lips pursed.

Myrtle-ellipses surveyed the others. She'd offered a quiet nod but nothing more. Was this the Jacen Vexen had mentioned? He seemed old. And tired.

Forever the healer, she carried some medical supplies at her back. Lightsaber at her hip and blaster. Some green-eyed boy was walking next to her. [member="Elmont Block"]. She elbowed him lightly in the ribs as a spark and flash of movement caught her gaze just down a corridor to the left.

"Did you see that?"

[member="Winter Ardmore"] @D'vok Windroamer [member="Azna Kahn"] [member="Alexandra Morrow"] [member="Lokthra Dawning"]

The trip through to the underground had drawn more attention away from Azna. For a moment she felt she'd made the fool of herself by thinking she was late and arriving in such a fashion. Now finally here she was hoping to impress her master and fellow students. This was after all her first time truly working with any of them. She kept to herself as they flew off, the noise of the engines too loud to even speak to begin with, before finally arriving in the underground area. She exited out with the others as they headed their master's warning to stay together. Azna found herself near [member="Taheera Sollo"] and [member="Winter Ardmore"] as they walked together. It wasn't until Taheera had mentioned seeing something Azna froze for a moment.

"What was it?" she peeped.

One fear she never truly told anyone she had was about ghosts. Her parents always told her terrible stories of spirits and the like which tended to terrify her. Now, even as an adult, she still carried it with her.

Elmont Block

Your focus determines your reality
Being around fellow Padawans was a mistake - and Elmont knew it. It brought back memories - painful ones. He'd been a loner for a few years now and had been taken under the wing of a New Jedi Order Master. Which was all good. And he'd been on a few missions for the Alliance - which was also a positive.

But being surrounded by peers - in this case Padawans - took him back to a time he was last at an Academy full-time. When he was a Youngling - and in his opinion the cream of the crop. And he'd been overlooked. So overlooked, in fact, he'd been shipped off to the AgriCorps. Which in turn was why he became a loner and the circle was now complete.

So he purposefully avoided any real contact with them and focused on the Master that was accompanying them, and the task ahead. The last thing he wanted to get into was another situation where he felt a need to be competitive. He was grown up enough now to know it was a weakness. He was not grown up enough to overcome it.

Trextan thought it odd that Jacen had barely spared him a glance on the way here. His father had been asking for days for Trext to accompany him and meet some other padawans. He assumed it was because Jacen thought it would remove some of his preconcrptions of how the Jedi Order operated.

It was only when they got there and when the others had gone ahead that he felt a hand placed on his shoulder.

"Go with them Trex, help if you can. I won't be far."

Trextan looked over his shoulder at Jacen. Through the long fronds of his dark hair he glowered. "I don't need you watching me," he declared and set off after the others.

He strode towards the sound. He was as nervous as the others, but determined to go forward boldly. And away from his father. There were some parts laid out, one cylinder had rolled free.

"Nothing here," he called back.

"Did you see that?"

Hearing that didn't put Xena's nerves any less on edge. The girl was not a big fan of machinery and certainly not a big fan of droids. Her eyes darted around the cavern, senses on high alert for anything out of the ordinary, beyond the whole factory malfunctioning of course.

Each flicker of the light, each groan and moan of the facility further heightened the girls senses and her growing sense of dread.

"Stay calm. Control your emotions. Don't let them control you." She thought to herself, calming her breathing down. "Focus on the force, listen to it and trust in it. Let it guide you."

With her mind calm and the force around her, Xena kept walking. Sticking close to the others, hoping that they didn't need to split up just yet. Eyes wandering around before following the gaze of [member="Taheera Sollo"], moving over next to her.

Given how things were going, she was highly expecting them to split up soon to cover more area.

Someone had some serious daddy issues.

Being an empath wasn't always convenient. Myrtle-ellipses tracked the long-haired roguish teen. Young adult? She wasn't the best at age guessing. Eyes didn't leave their hold on the edge of that corridor, just past Trex as she answered Azna. "I dunno but I'm going to find out."

Shoulder brushed past Mister McBroody 'Trex' as she crouched by the fallen cylinder that was conveniently blocking the corridor mentioned earlier. The suspicious corridor.

"Nope, nothing here," she cast McBroody a sideways glance. The confirmation might irk him. She saw that flash of light again, further down the corridor. "But definitely something there." Without waiting, she force-jumped over the massive downed cylinder.

Taheera Sollo said:
"Nope, nothing here,"

Trextan could well imagine Jacen smirking at the inflection in the mirialan's voice. His brow furrowed as he cast her a withering sideways glance. He felt a hot swell of embarrassment. Shown up by Jedi passivists already. He shook his head and swallowed his pride.

Then the girl vaulted over the cylinder and went ahead on her own. His eyes followed her as she arced over it. The path she followed made it obvious it was a Force-assisted leap. Much as his father had regrettably been this age, Trextan didn't always think his decisions through. In his head the green-skinned girl had shown him up and issues a little challenge in return.

That flush of embarrassment turned to a private smile that he quickly hid. Without pause he gathered the Force and launched himself over the barrier. A long way from being as graceful, he came down on the cylinder and slid back down to the ground roughly.

"There is something moving up there," he agreed.
