It was a simple message that was sent to Valery seemingly out of the blue. Katherine was never one to be shy in pulling the Jedi Master aside for a moment in one of the Temples. Whether it was a chance encounter or deliberate.

But this? To specify Niv Hani too.

For Katherine it was pretty much code for ‘it’s something personal.’

After all, the Noble’s residence was one of the very few places in the galaxy Katherine truly felt the most comfortable; a place that felt like home.

Thus the winged Jedi sat in the middle of the Nobles’ living room. Valery had disappeared into the kitchen to get them something to drink. All the while Katherine was failing at not trying to look a little anxious and nervous.

"You know you can always tell me anything, right?" Valery walked back into the living room with two steaming cups of tea and a smile on her face. "So whatever it is that's on your mind, you don't need to be so nervous." She gently placed the two cups down on the small coffee table in front of the couch. Then she lowered herself, sitting down close to where she could keep an eye on baby Yvaine, who was sleeping in her crib nearby.

No little Noble should ever go unwatched.

Leaning forward, Valery retrieved her cup from the table and wrapped her fingers around it, enjoying the warmth it provided. She then placed it onto her lap and turned her gaze to Katherine.

That smile and comforting presence as present as always.

"What's on your mind, Katherine?"

Katherine smiled gratefully as she reached over and grabbed one of the cups of tea. There was a momentarily nervous shake, before she brought it close enough to her face to blow on it.

An old little habit of hers whenever she had a hot drink.

“I know, it’s just…” Katherine’s voice trailed off as she failed to find the words. Hell, she was failing to figure out just why she was having so much trouble starting the intended conversation.

Valery was one of the very few people that the redhead felt comfortable being vulnerable around. Arguably, Valery had heard the greater share of those moments than Kahlil at times. And yet here Katherine was, a bundle of nerves as she tried to figure out how to broach the topic that had been plaguing her recently.

Instead, Katherine glanced over towards where the slumbering Yvaine rested. The Nobles always seemed to have a knack of making her feel at peace when around them, none more so than the youngest.

Though the thought of children had the redhead’s mind wander off for a moment, until she slammed the brakes down.

Thinking waaaay too far ahead there...

Katherine let out a sigh, before finally taking a sip of her tea.

“I’ve been asked out on a date.”

When in doubt, just rip the bandaid off.

"A date, huh?"

Valery's voice was soft and, for once, there was nothing teasing about it. She knew how hard it could be to open up about these things, and the last thing she wanted was for Katherine to regret making herself vulnerable. Instead, Valery leaned in a little closer, her teacup resting on her lap, and made it clear she was listening.

Curious about this date.

"Why does it make you so nervous?" Valery continued with a smile. "It's a thrill to be asked on a date, right? Or is this more about not feeling sure about yourself and how to approach it?" She paused and raised her cup to her lips, offering Katherine a chance to speak her mind and get anything off her chest.

"Either way, I'm very happy for you, Kat. And if there's anything I can do to help, you can tell me."

Katherine didn’t say anything initially, but the uncertainty was clear in both her expression and posture. Not that it was exactly a new thing in her life, Force knows Katherine had gone through a lot of uncertainty over the years.

But there was something about this situation that seemed a bit more deeply rooted.

“I know it is, I’ve never felt happier. Hell, I’d argue I was almost giddy at the prospect of it.” The redhead's focus wavered for a few moments, recounting the memory of her practically floating back to her ship after being asked out.

“A part of it is yeah, this is my first ever date, I haven’t a clue what to do.” Katherine took a sip of her tea, her amber eyes finally returning to Valery’s.

“But this is also the first time I’ve felt this way about someone, ever. Butterflies in the stomach, the fact I can’t stop smiling when around them; or thinking about them…”

Valery let out a chuckle, her smile widening as she listened. The way Katherine spoke, the way her eyes lit up even while she tried to stay composed... she knew more than enough.

"You know," she said with a gentle tone, "You sound like you're in love." She let that hang in the air for just a moment, her gaze playful but warm. Then she leaned forward slightly, the amusement not quite hidden behind her next words.

"So, come on. Who is the lucky person? You cannot tell me all that and expect me not to ask."

Her expression softened again as she reached for her tea. She took a sip, then gave Katherine a small nod.

"And as for the date, I can help you prepare. Clothes, conversation, the works. It does not have to be a mystery you figure out alone. You already have the most important part figured out, anyway. You care about them and they care about you, or they wouldn't have asked for this date."
