- Production: Limited.
- Material: Skin, alchemised thread.
- Mask of many faces: When placed on one’s face, a Mask of Seeming allows the wearer to alter their appearance through the Mask alchemical process without all the hassle. The mask is skin-tight and unnoticeable by the naked eye when applied. The mask changes their skin tone, minor protrusions, even hair and nails. However, the mask is limited and cannot make the wearer grow or hide limbs, nor can it suppress mass. Once a near-human, always a near-human.
- Quick Change: Unlike some of its predecessors, the Mask of Seeming is capable of rapid changes, allowing the wearer to change their face in less than a minute. Major changes, such as exotic skin pigmentation and patterning may take more time.
- Sustainable: Unlike previous iterations, the Mask of Seeming survives force voids and ysalamir fields by leeching off the wearer’s vitality to sustain itself. This drain is not immediately noticeable, but may cause fatigue and headaches over long stretches of time. The mask is not alive, only life-like.
- Disguise: The mask allows the wearer to quickly change their appearance and disguise themselves from prying eyes. This disguise is as good as undetectable once applied.
- Resistant: Unlike previous iterations, the Mask of Seeming can sustain itself in force voids and ysalamir fields for weeks on end.
- Darkspawn: Created by Sith Alchemy, the mask may melt when subjected to direct blasts of Force Light or Sith Lightning. This may cause horrible and disfiguring burns. Good thing you can cover it up with a new mask!
- Once a Human: The Mask cannot grant or suppress mass, nor can it grow or hide limbs. A human can only disguise itself as a different human or near-human. It also does not grant the abilities of species one might disguise oneself as. It is a disguise, not a full change.
- Stuck: While the mask can retain its shape perfectly in a Force Void it cannot change without access to the Force, nor can it be removed.
Recognition is always a risk when engaging in espionage and assassinations. Too often must good assassins and spies be benched for ages upon ages because they have been recognised by the wrong people. Well no more! These easily applied alchemical masks can hide one’s identity rapidly and keep good assassins in the field.
When creating this simple tool, Darth Ophidia looked to previous projects of her own, such as the cloth of disguise. While these masks maintain none of the cloth’s protective qualities, they have made advancements against force voids and ysalamiri. The mask, once applied, will feed off the wearer’s life energy by way of their skin and sustain itself for weeks on end even in captivity. Now, this prolonged use may cause severe headaches, nausea and facial sores, the mask will not peel, pale or falter.
The mask is of a simple, yet elegant construction. Before application, it appears as a thin mask of supple leather that may be fastened behind the head. The leather is embroidered with alchemised thread that strengthens the enchantment. Once applied, it creates a seamless disguise that is no illusion. The disguise feels, smells, tastes and acts as real skin until the wearer decides to remove it. Of course, should this skin-tight disguise be destroyed through force light or force lightning, then it will melt and burn the wearer’s face, potentially disfiguring them forever. Oops.
