ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:
  • The Targeting Computer has been linked to a "Smart" Sensor, allowing it to target anything that is either mobile or immobile, making it extremely accurate
  • The Hull is thicker than the Mark I or Mark II, meaning the previous weakness of the payload being struck has been removed.
  • The Brain from the Tiger Medium Bomber and the Advanced Hawk Fighter have both been installed into the Lion, making it twice as intelligent.
  • It is capable of fending for itself completely without Fighter Escort.
Weaknesses:
  • The Bomber has a slower speed than the other types of bombers, due to the thicker hull of the bomber, and the sheer weight of the payload, making it easier to hit.
  • Its the largest sized bomber available, making it even easier of a target for Anti Air and Interceptors than the other two bombers.
  • The Targeting system is completely dependent on the smart sensors installs on the underside of the ship in the form of red optics on each drop pod, meaning if the enemy attacked the underside with a sniper rifle on the ground, and disabled the sensors, the accuracy of the bomber would be heavily reduced to being only useful as a suicide bomber.
Description: The Weaknesses of the Leopard and the Tiger Bombers had become too apparent to the designers at the Gahenn Droid Foundry, and to keep to their designated schedule, they made the Lion Heavy Bomber to answer to those weaknesses. Although it did answer the problems of the past two models with its design, it also caused its own problems. The Lion was also designed to be a heavy bomber to attack capital ships and heavily defended military targets. The Hull was made thicker than the previous two models to remove the risk of pre-detonation of its payload via damage, but it made it slower than the other bombers. The droid brains from both the Advanced Hawk Fighter and the Tiger Medium Bomber were installed as two separate brain units, doubling the intellect of the bomber, and the designers even upgraded the targeting computer to use four smart sensors on the underside of the bomber to allow it to target almost anything. The problem with that was the underside sensors became an easy target, and thus, a fail safe was developed that if the sensors were all destroyed, but the bomber was still in flight, it would Kamikaze into its last identified target, destroying itself but hitting the target successfully in the process.
