Powerful Jal Shey imbuements allow the wearer, FU or NFU, to experience increased awareness of her surroundings. Mara Merrill uses it to bolster her empathic senses, Theran Force-listening/Comprehend Speech, and similar skills. For the distracted or unprepared, this awareness can be overwhelming. A second set of imbuements insulates and fortifies the mind of the wearer, FU or NFU, against Force influence and auras of the Dark Side -- Rave attempting to safeguard her young niece from following in her footsteps. These functions are standard in Jal Shey Meditation Gloves and Mentor Belts.
Although Mara prefers to use study and preparation, protocol droids, empathy, and Comprehend Speech, a Clarion Personal Translator can provide help if necessary. It is generally turned off.
The coat's numerous pockets often contain things like a Tashai water seeker talisman, a Korriban Compass, a chunk of Thaissen crystal for testing Force-sensitivity, the Ankarres Sapphire itself, some Kolcta geltabs, or some bandages.
The Nighthunter fur confers no benefit except warmth. Apart from authentic-looking armourweave blends, the coat contains a good deal of micronized beskar fabric, the same material used in crushgaunts. The coat is durable in the extreme. It is worth noting, however, that it is just a coat. Blunt trauma, such as from large-calibre slugthrowers, clubs, or thrown rocks, will still bruise flesh and break bones. Likewise, the outer fabrics and fur can melt or burn. It is also worth noting that the coat is somewhat bulky and nearly reaches her ankles, providing an impediment in some circumstances. There are times when a nigh-indestructible long floppy coat can get you killed.
On the whole, though, anything that turns a broadhead arrow into a club strike and forces swordsmen to bludgeon you rather than gut you is something you want to take with you on pre-technological excursions.
