SPECIAL FEATURES

• The Baradium warheads are usually armed to explode on impact making ramming a last ditch option.
• The Baradium warheads have a range of half starship combat range. On a hex map this is 5 hexes usually. However, the Manticore prefers to close in to shorter range to limit the amount of time the warheads can be targeted.

Strengths:

• Torpedoes. The Baradium warheads can inflict significant damage even to much larger capital ships. If able to get close enough they can inflict serious harm to a ship’s weak spots.
• Ram. The Manticore, as a last resort, can deliver a devastating ramming attack which will detonate all remaining warheads.

Weaknesses:

• Defences. The Manticore is nearly defenceless. It has no shields and very weak armour.
• Range. The Baradium warheads have a maximum range of half regular engagement range. However, these warheads are used much closer in order to limit the time they can be targeted by point defence systems.

Description:
The Manticore is a special type of corvette designed to use the extremely dangerous Baradium warheads to damage or destroy even much larger enemy ships. However, these extremely powerful weapons are carried by the most vulnerable ships in the Contingency fleet. In order to allow the powerful warheads to be loaded with the engines required, the shielding systems had to be removed and the armour reduced.
