STRENGTHS
- Strike Frigate: The Manticore Class is built with heavy weaponry at the forefront of its design. The ship is capable of delivering a devastating barrage against enemy targets in a lethal opening attack.
- Orbital: Loaded with a nuclear missile launcher, the Manticore is capable of delivering a lethal payload of damage against planetary targets usually reserved for much larger vessels. This allows the Manticore to take over planetary operations, allowing large, more important vessels to maintain combat readiness away from planets.
- Range: Other than the Nuclear Missiles the vessel carries, which can only be used in certain space engagements, the Manticore is limited to mid and close range battles. Should the vessel be targeted by long range enemy fire, it must rely on its speed to get closer to effectively defend itself.
- Engines: The layout of the Manticore engines allow for the vessel to achieve a high maximum speed, but pose a serious risk as well. Given their design, a single heavy weapon strike to the central, hyperdrive engine of the vessel risks destroying or damaging every other engine. For this reason the Manticore has nearly half of its point defense weaponry protecting its engines, but a single bomber can effectively cripple the ship with a single shot.
The Manticore Class is the first capital ship sized vessel to be built by those assets loyal to Darth Seraphon. To further his growing ambitions, he set a single Sith Order shipyard to the task of designing, and building the Manticore Class line of warships. Lacking the resources at the moment to build large, more powerful fleets, Seraphon settled for a small fleet of lethal ships capable of filling multiple roles. The Manticore, being the test bed for this ambition, serves as the backbone of fleets loyal to Darth Seraphon, and the front line vessel for lone wolf operations across the galaxy when needed.
