STRENGTHS
  • Shielded Warrior: The comprehensive durasteel plating of the armor is extremely durable and protective, made to withstand most types of direct damage. Areas that are not covered by the plating are protected through lesser materials that still offer strength. Electro-resistant materials, ablative dampers, and ion dispersal coils also serve better to cushion a wearer from non-standard methods of damage.
  • Modular Fighter: Many modules expand the combat capabilities of the wearer; the customizable nature of the armor allows for a great amount of versatility depending on the situation.
WEAKNESSES
  • Exposed Parts: Gaps in the armor offer points for enemies to exploit.
  • Lightsabers: Without the much-stronger beskar plating of traditional beskar'gam, the cuirass is much more vulnerable to attack from lightsabers and similar energy weapons.
  • The Force: The beskar'gam offers no protection from force-based attacks or alchemy-based attacks, leaving its user vulnerable to those types of damage.
  • Biological Hazards: The beskar'gam offers no direct protection from biological weapons.
DESCRIPTION
Every Mandalorian must have their armor; it is a significant and foundational part of Mandalorian culture and identity. It is known for its distinctive t-visor helmets and uniqueness among other armor designs, but perhaps the most precious thing about Mandalorian armor is the beskar that makes up its plating. The precious substance can only be found on the homeworld of Mandalore and is nearly indestructible, rendering terrifying and near-invulnerable warriors from those who wear it.

But Beskar does not grow on trees. Its ore is only found on Mandalore, and requires careful extraction and extensive metallurgy before the ore is turned into the ultra-resistant alloy used for Mandalorian armor. And thousands of years worth of mining Mandalore for the substance, and the millions of Mandalorians who have been armored by it have made the substance a scarce commodity. Events such as the Genocide of Mandalore only worsened this supply issue as thousands of tons of beskar were lost to the Sith, still unrecovered. To mitigate this issue, Mandalorians often recycle their precious substance; clan members will inherit the armor of their ancestors, and the fallen are scavenged for their beskar before they are given their proper burial rights. Discoveries of small deposits on worlds such as Kestri also have helped alleviate this problem, but at the end of the day, the fact remains. There are too many Mandalorians with not enough beskar to protect them.

In the absence of beskar, metal alloys have been used by Mandalorian metalsmiths for centuries as a cheaper way to arm Mandalorians unlucky enough to own their own beskar armor. Some wear their cuirass for their entire lives; others are fortunate enough to slowly replace composite alloy plates with beskar plates, and over time may find themselves with a complete set of beskar'gam.

The Enclave's standard Mandalorian Cuirass is not a new invention, just a continuation of the tradition of having a cheaper and more easily-accessible alternative to expensive beskar. The armor is still expertly forged and outfitted with a variety of deadly and useful equipment that would be found on traditional beskar'gam. In addition, the cuirass is highly customizable and aesthetically can be made to fit a variety of styles and species requirements. It's not beskar'gam, but it's very close to the next best thing.
