The Hive: Housed within the confines of these vessels are dozens of starfighters and bombers ready to be unleashed upon the enemy. The greatest strength of this vessel are the various craft that it can unleash at a moments notice.
Dorsal-Ventral Superstructure: The Malebranche class Star Destroyer is designed after the older Interdictor II class Carrier still utilized by the Hellknights. Its design shares the flaw in which the vessel is divided into a Dorsal and Ventral superstructure (much like the older Interdictor class Cruiser utilized by Revan's Sith Empire). As such it would only take a sufficient amount of firepower focused on these structures to cripple or destroy the vessel.
Limited Firepower: Focusing on carrying fighter craft has meant scaling back in other areas. Much like the Interdictor II Carrier, the Malebranche has a limited armament that it can bring to bear against other vessels. Rather most of its weapons are meant to protect the vessel against enemy starfighters and shuttles though no vessel larger than a small corvette. These vessels rely on their own squadrons of starfighters or escort vessels for further protection against larger vessels.
Returning to an older vessel that is still in service with the Hellknights, their Interdictor II Carrier inspired the development of a larger variant; the Malebranche class Star Destroyer which serves as a dedicated carrier. Unlike its predecessor vessels that were often equipped with Gravity Well Projectors, the Malebranche is lacking this capability. Rather it was decided that those systems would be removed to ensure that much of the interior of the vessel was utilized for storing and preparing larger squadrons of starfighters.
These vessels still suffer from the structural weakness of its predecessors, in that it has a Dorsal and Ventral superstructure - thus requiring that these vessels remain deeper in a fleet to prevent them from being exposed to enemy fire. Like many of those vessels fielded by the Hellknights, the Malebranche class Star Destroyer is fully intended to work alongside other vessels and provide a supporting role in fleet engagements or long range patrol and scouting missions.
