DESCRIPTION
A swoop racer meant for an upcoming corporate exposition prix on Etti IV, the usual Corporate Sector hijinks saw many of the competitors attempting to sabotage or shame the others long before the race even began. As an indi contractor Kiva was tasked with denying Mercenary Arms their entry once a subsidiary of Absalom Group uncovered information on its capabilities during a data heist.

While she had intended to destroy the swoop, once she’d knocked out the test jockey and taken his riding gear Kivah realized how easy it’d be to klep the thing right off the rented test track. Wearing the official tester gear, she strode right up to the Maia, got on, and after a brief familiarization with help from a MA tech, rode the thing right out from under the noses of those there to work on it.

Nothing is particularly groundbreaking in the Maia’s underlying technology, however minor changes in construction and assembly have given the swoop rather unusual characteristics. The most unique being that the braking engine points slightly downwards meaning that the act of slowing for a turn also pushes the pilot through it should they be in a lean. Combined with the enhanced repulsorgrip, the Maia is quick through the corners but suffers in stopping distance. For speed the swoop is powered by two turbothrusters, a large primary and a smaller secondary, both fitted with afterburners and is held aloft by repulsor coils. The Maia is supplied all the energy it needs from a high-powered generator with self-charging fuel cells not too dissimilar from the classic 74-z speeder bike.

The swoop also has a few defensive features such as a coating of skuggalegt polymer to make it both more difficult to target and provide protection against EMP or ion attacks seeking to disable the bike. On top of the polymer, a stormcloud ECM emitter may interfere with sensors and targeting in general on the courses that allow it or the communications jammer. A pair of absorbital sprayers dispense the blaster blocking gas in puffs behind the swoop. Rather than one thick stream, the clouds are sufficient to stop most weapons while conserving the supply of absorbital, allowing the Maia swoop to disappear behind a fresh cloud with minimal exposure to danger.

After stealing the bike for herself and with the help of her slicer friend Das, Kivah stripped it of its locator chips and disabled its automatic crash beacon and altitude limiter to free up the bike and prevent it from being tracked before continuing the shakedown trials themselves. Then the Cathar began enjoying it. She’d always loved speeders and the wind whipping through her hair, but few could seem to keep up with the reactions she demanded of them and were soon boring, plain, commonplace. Not the Maia. It was a challenge, a full body experience she could ride instead of sitting back in a chair and being coddled during an easy cruise.
