DESCRIPTION |
The M5-A Scyk-type Interceptor is the first design in a new series of designs to be produced and manufactured by Aether Systems under contract with the Mandalorian Empire. Colloquially known as the Mando TIE or Mandalorian TIE Fighter, the M5-A Scyk lacks in its defensive capabilities as well as lacks basic life support systems and functions that are present in other Starfighters. This requires that the pilot be sealed within a self-contained, insulated, pressurized suit and carry their own emergency atmospheric unit and life support pack before entering the craft. However, this lack of defensive capabilities and life support systems has resulted in a craft that is both smaller and more easily produced in mass quantities, allowing the M5-A Scyk to be deployed en masse with larger squadron formations. A disadvantage of the M5-A Scyk can be seen in its previously mentioned lack of defensive capabilities, as the removal of heavier armor plating was done in favor of increased speed and maneuverability. This often requires the pilots to utilize the increased speed and maneuverability to avoid damage and overcome an enemy in engagements. The greatest strength of the M5-A Scyk remains its ease with which it can be modified - specifically, with which its standard twin laser cannon armament can be easily swapped for a set of twin ion cannons, a concussion missile launcher, or a proton torpedo launcher; this allows for greater versatility within a singular squadron to create wings with complementary weapon mixes. However, although its armaments are easily swapped, the M5-A Scyk retains a limited armament that often pales in comparison to other Starfighters. While the M5-A Scyk lacks more sophisticated systems and defensive shields, the extensively trained and highly skilled pilots of the Mandalorian Empire more than make up for the difference. However, the true standout feature of the M5-A Scyk is the inclusion of a Hyperdrive Engine that was missing from its predecessor, the M3-A Scyk, removing the need for the pilot to rely on allied ships to transport these squadrons en masse. Overall, the M5-A Scyk-type Interceptor provides the Mandalorian Empire with a craft that is easily produced and manufactured, easily deployed en masse, and easily modified to provide greater versatility to overcome their enemies. |
