STRENGTHS

Heavy Armaments - The M42-A Krayt-type was developed to provide additional support to larger vessels and is known to boast an increased armament and includes heavier variants of standardized weapon systems found on similarly sized vessels.

Bolstered Defenses - As a means to ensure that the vessel would be capable of withstanding a barrage from the Starships it would often be thrown against, the craft was designed with increased defensive measures and redundant systems.

WhisperThrust Engine - This specialized engine utilizes supercooled gases and engine nacelles designed to scatter escaping emissions produced by the M42-A during regular sublight operations, thus producing as little sensor wake as possible, and allowing for a virtually indetectable cruising speed.

WEAKNESSES

Reduced Speed - The overall Sublight acceleration and speed of the vessel has been reduced due to the addition of heavier defenses as a result of the added weight. This causes the M42-A to be considerably slower than similarly sized vessels or Corvettes with lighter armor and more powerful engines.

Negative Hangar Capacity - As the M42-A Krayt-type was designed to focus on increased armaments and heavier defenses, the craft lacks an internal hangar capacity and is incapable of deploying either Starfighter or Support Craft Squadrons. Likewise, it also lacks the capacity to carry a singular smaller craft.

Minimal Maneuverability - Designed and focusing on attack and defense has also resulted in a drop in the overall manervauability, with the craft not being as nimble or easy to handle as similarly sized vessels.

WhisperThrust Engine - While this specailized engine can produced a virtually indetectable cruising speed, it is not without its own drawbacks or faults. High speeds or sudden bursts from the engine - such as those produced when attempting to flee or spooling up the Hyperdrive - render the vessel detectable, thus necessitating that the vessel maintain lower speeds to properly function.

DESCRIPTION

The M42-A Krayt-type Gunship was the fourth and final design in a new series of designs that were produced and manufactured by Aether Systems under contract with the Mandalorian Empire. The design of the M42-A is notably larger than its predecessors - the M22-T Krayt Gunship - and was considerably inspired by another vessel produced by Aether Systems, the Warrior-class Gunship. This design inspiration can largely be seen in the increased size of the M42-A as well as the inclusion of heavier armaments and increased defensive capabilities. However, this inclusion has also created its own drawbacks, most notably, the lack of any hangar capacity - as these craft are incapable of supporting a singular smaller craft let along a singular squadron of Starfighters or Bombers. This has also resulted in a lack of speed and maneuverability as the M42-A is bogged down due to its heavier armor resulting in a drop in overall acceleration and speeds at Sublight. However, where the M42-A shines is in its inclusion of a specialized engine component - the WhisperThrust Engine - which utilizes supercooled gases and special engine nacelles to scatter escaping emissions produced by the craft during regular sublight operations. This inclusion of such a specialized component - which allows the vessel to produce as little sensor wake as possible, resulting in a virtually indetectable cruising speed - has largely caught the eyes of the Mandalorian Nite Owls who are often known to utilize these vessels to quietly conduct covert operations and find that the increased capacity to carry prisoners further bolsters the usefulness of the M42-A. Likewise, in the unfortunate event that the vessel its caught in the open, its armaments and defenses often allow it to make quick and easy work of any opposition. However, it should also be noted that the WhisperThrust Engine isn't entirely fullproof nor does it completely render the vessel from being visually perceived. As such, the effects of the WhisperThrust Engine are known to be mitigated when the vessel experiences sudden bursts of acceleration or is operating at higher speeds, rednering the vessel detectable. Even with its considerably slower speed and maneuverability for a vessel its size, the M42-A is still capable enough to rapidly strike at larger vessels. Likewise, the craft excels when paired with a formation of M15-A Kimogila-type Heavy Starfighters or the smaller M5-A Scyk-type Interceptors. As mentioned, its inclusion of a WhisperThrust Engine also makes these vessels indispensable to the Mandalorian Nite Owls or for other steathly strikes made by the Supercommandos or Mandalorian Knights where discretion is required first and foremost - though heavy firepower remains on the table as an immediate secondary option.
