Directorate Officer
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
Inspired by the famous WESTAR M5 blaster rifle and Aurora Industries's Burststreak weapon system in use with Directorate forces, Lucerne Personal Defense opted to make their first blaster rifle a multipurpose weapon capable of fulfilling a couple of commonly needed roles. Aside from being used a typical blaster rifle, the Firebolt can be configured to act as a light repeating blaster or a handheld blaster cannon. To that end, the base design utilizes heavy duty hadrium internals needed to handle the unusually high amounts of power and waste heat produced by the weapon in these roles. This design change has sacrifices some of the finesse used in forming the blaster bolts, which tend to dissipate quicker than most of their common counterparts regardless of the setting used. But most soldiers accept this tradeoff for the versatility in the roles it can fulfill at the flick of a switch.
Blaster Rifle: In its base setting, the Firebolt is a fairly typical assault-pattern blaster rifle in the vein of the E-11. It is a weapon with a moderately high rate of fire that is usually effective against armored infantry at short to medium ranges.
Light Repeating Blaster: In this mode, the Firebolt spews out a large volume of individually weak damaging bolts. This is generally used for suppressing fire or striking large numbers of lightly defended targets. Firing bursts of bolts in this setting produces a relatively small amount of recoil, making it an ideal setting for smaller framed, weak, or untrained individuals. Sustained automatic fire causes more recoil that is roughly equivalent to that of a typical blaster rifle, which can cause the weapon to "walk" off target.
Blaster Cannon: In this mode, the Firebolt turns into a slow-firing but heavy hitting weapon. Like the WESTAR M5 or blaster cannons, this can be used effectively against light to medium-armored vehicles and lesser targets. Squads of infantry using this setting can often mimic the effects of vehicle heavy blaster cannon by properly syncing their fire together. Using this setting takes some skill to use effectively because of its relatively high recoil.
Aside from these settings, the Firebolt has a couple of other areas which can be customized according to the user's needs. While the Firebolt comes with a basic x3 scope with infrared vision integrated into the “carry handle”, this can be removed and replaced with a different cope of the user's chosing. Likewise, the Firebolt has a singular bottom rail which can handle a myried of attachments from simple sling swivels to underbarrel grenade launchers. Because of these features, LPD-14 Firebolts are fairly popular with lightside-affiliated soldiers and paramilitary organizations because of their versatility and power. They are typically harder for individuals to legally acquire on most worlds because of the potentially high firepower afforded in their blaster cannon settings. However, there are rumors that Lucerne Personal Defense has delivered some to resistance groups and other like-minded organizations through go-betweens in order to advance their political agenda but maintain plausible deniability.

SPECIAL FEATURES
Integrated (x3) Scope with Infrared setting
Variable Charge: The Firebolt can be set to use several different gas and power consumption levels, allowing it to adapt to fulfill different roles as needed.
Stun Mode (applicable to all variable charge settings)
Strengths:
Variable Charge: The LPD-14 can use a variety of power and gas consumption settings, allowing it to fulfill multiple weapon roles. It can handle abnormally high amounts of power, allowing to provide high damage output like a handheld blaster cannon at the cost of rate of fire and increased recoil. Alternatively, it can pump out a large volume of bolts at the cost of individually weaker bolts.
Compact: The LPD-14 is a relatively compact weapon for its power because of its bullpup configuration, though it is not as compact as the famed E-11. This makes it relatively easy to maneuver in close-quarter combat or stow away when not needed.
Reduced Range: Because of the heavy duty galven circuitry needed to handle some of the larger power output, the LPD does not have as fine of static pulse adaptors needed to provide efficient bolt cohesion over longer distances. It has a shorter maximum range than most blaster rifles.
Loud: Not unlike the 9118 heavy carbine, the Firebolt produces a highly audible “thumping” sound when fired regardless of the setting. This makes the user relatively easy to find even if they can't see the bolts because of obscuring terrain.
