Emberlene's Daughter, The Jedi Generalist
Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor

Listening to him she remained quiet... and gave him her full attention... crossing her legs to sit as she glided down the hallway and floating to avoid the others. Eyes meeting caltin's while he laid it all out and.. he wasn't wrong. Her training for the jedi padawans would mean they would have a lot but they were also being trained at a young age then a lot who came to the order now. She had created the creches based off of the one on Coruscaant which was singular for hundreds of temples to encourage jedi unions. The altisians and their bloodlines of force users were impressive as they had recorded thousands of generations of some families while trying to rebuild the order on Perideaa.

But Caltin was not wrong... there was a lot here.. a lot of potential for danger but also a lot that was becoming known.. with some of the mysteries solved they could open the door to countless more or stranger still wonders for the future... they could see ways to implement the oldest utopian technologies into the future. "I would love to hear them." She said it and turned herself over so she was sitting cross legged, hovering and upside down but her being didn't register it. The force adjusting the center of her gravity as it was using inertia with her minor movement and a quicker vibraation to change the direction of gravity around her.

Caltin was visibly surprised at this. Not that she wanted to hear what he had to say, but doing so “upside down” took a moment for him to get used to.Caltin quickly adjusted his posture and tried to focus on the conversation. He couldn't help but feel a bit disoriented, but he didn't want to show it. He cleared his throat and continued speaking, trying to maintain his composure despite the unusual situation.

Make no mistake, I am not trying to rain on your parade here, at all this is an incredible accomplishment. The main red flag that I am seeing though, and admittedly, I only speak for myself. The thing is, you bring up how refined you want a Padawan’s training to be, and that is a beautiful (in its simplicity) thing, but one of the aspects I remember most about the Republic is the focus on commitment that was the center of a Padawan’s training. Trying not to give them too much too soon, and giving them a chance to process what they learn.

Realizing, and making it clear that he did not know the entire rubric of the training being implemented here, he continued.

Granted, it was a different time, and there was a war going on, but it was more difficult for a Padawan to be Knighted than it is now. I’m not saying that it’s easy now mind you, but the emotional, mental, and psychological effects a Learner had to go through… He shivered. I know it is a different time now, but I just don’t want to see history repeat itself.

She listened and took it in while she rolled in the air and stopped hovering over his shoulder making it look like he was supporting her for the moment as a group of padawans walked past wearing their training outfits. The fitted bodysuits with chest, leg and arm pieces letting them be flexible there as armor. The jedi master tapped her chin. "It can be, we take in a lot and I understand the concern. The records from the Republics jedi are interesting and from the era considered the high republic a golden age of them and the jedi.. the training was great but had no practical application. It was almost purely routine with no deviation to possible variables."

She remained there while moving down the hall and looked around. "Where are we going? I was following you." She said it and looked down at him for a moment before laughing. The temple shifting and opening a door as it formed into an area of the temple as the pylons were gleaming. Shimmering gateways opening and closing as jedi came in and left. SMall groups of people in ivory white robes with jedi wearing similarly colored robes. She was looking at it and smiled. "The transport chamber, gathways as needed, the anchorpoints for accessing the deeperr areas of the temple, pens for the jedi vessels and access to the quartermaster and artisans work areas."

You’re right about the variables, but we were at war(or so we thought so at the time), but it was also even more a testament to holding to your principles. It was more nuanced than records speak of.

Then she stopped, turned around, and looked back at him. She asked ”what”?

Me? How would I know where I was going?

That insipid laugh. Well played “Skippy.”

He quirked up at the mention of the artisans. Perhaps while I’m here, one of your people could take a look at my weapon? Pulling "CONSERVATOR" (Primary - Long Handle), but just holding the hilt he showed. Since the fall of the Shadow Temple, and my… “return”, there has been something “off”... on it… He could not pinpoint any issue, it just did not feel right.

"Oh?" She said it looking at him and at the saber as she thought about it. Finding a small place there when she looked at him. "Isn't that the one I helped with for some pieces?" She tapped her chin and doubted it was the components from them... there was always a chance as it was an older model. "We can do a lot with a blade now.. we have developed a better power source and several more crystals that can be used for different things and channeling the force. Then from a technical standpoint we are the few artisans who have eliminated cortosis as a weakness and beskar or phrik is raarely a problem when your blade burns hotterr then most stars."

As she still floated around… and he still noticed… not like it was hard to miss…

The proverbial “guts” of it, yes. The same, but the hilt is my original weapon.

He really had little concern over what could be added to it, a lightsaber was a lightsaber to him, and while it was a symbol of who he was, it did not define him. The thing is, that lately, something about “Conservator” just did not feel right to him.

I don’t know if it is the crystals, or what, but it had always felt “tuned” to me, completely in sync until everything that happened on Kashyyyk.

Still floating around... great...

"Well then lets see." She said it as she came down in an alcove that opened into a workshop. The sounds of various machines working as they cut, polished and cleaned crystals. Dozens of artisans shaping the various kyber but then there were other machines designing and working the components. Padawans using various methods to assemble and droids or biots designed for testing, crafting and explaining various components to them. Some jedi masters and knights there as they got the pieces for their own lightsabers and Matsu motioned Caltin in towards the area as she pushed her hands outwards and the sound of everything coming to life was there. A table forming as the aterno responded to her needs and two prongs came up on it. "We'll diagnose the problem and work from there. If it is something like retuning it to you after Kashyyyk that is a lot easier then potential danger of a lens slipping and causing an explosion.'

Forged during the late Clone Wars and rebuilt across centuries, Conservator is not simply a lightsaber — it is a living record of its wielder's purpose.

The hilt is long — nearly the length of Darth Maul’s double-blade handle — designed for the powerful, two-handed techniques of a physical Jedi like Vanagor. Built for control, reach, and sheer stopping force, its weight in hand is deceptive — balanced with such precision that it feels like an extension of the body rather than a tool.

Design and Detail

The hilt, like its Master, bears its scars proudly.

  • Etched across the durasteel alloy shell are intricate carvings — not ornamental, but ceremonial — ancient Jedi text, High Galactic runes, and tribal Wroshyr sigils honoring the Wookiees who once welcomed him into their clan.

  • Faint fracture lines run along the chassis, sealed and reinforced with forged phrik bands. They speak of past battles, explosions survived, drops from orbit, and encounters with darkness that would have shattered a lesser saber.
At the emitter end, the metal is stained slightly darker — scorched from the sheer power that pulses within.

The Blade: Golden, with a Permafrost Edge

The blade ignites with a resonant hum, deeper and heavier than most Jedi sabers — like thunder echoing through stone. Its core glows a rich, golden hue, symbolizing defense, honor, and enlightenment — a beacon of protection.

But dancing along its edge is something rare: a pale, icy-blue outline — the “Permafrost” effect — a constant, barely-contained crackle of raw kinetic energy, the result of twin crystals in perfect, volatile harmony.

Crystals Within

  • Heart of the Guardian
Recovered from a forgotten temple world during Vanagor’s time as a Wayseeker, this rare kyber crystal shifts and reflects golden light. Said to enhance attunement with the Living Force, it strengthens one’s resolve and clarity during moral conflict. In Vanagor’s hands, it fuels more than just his blade — it fuels his purpose.
  • Permafrost Crystal
A crystalline remnant of Vanagor’s long sleep beneath the glaciers of Rhen Var, this unique kyber variant was unearthed when he was pulled from the ice. It burns not with heat, but with ancient cold — whispering of stillness, resilience, and the silent weight of time. It causes the saber’s edges to crackle and flicker with frozen, unstable arcs — beautiful and dangerous, like lightning in a snowstorm.

Legacy and Reputation

Over time, Conservator has developed a reputation of its own.
To foes, it is the last light they see before justice falls.
To those it protects, it is a pillar — unwavering and luminous.

Some claim the blade reacts on its own in moments of danger — flaring brighter, shifting in tone when its Master’s resolve deepens. Others say it “growls” when near betrayal, or that it dims gently when Caltin mourns.

Its nameConservator — was not given lightly. It represents what Vanagor believes the Jedi were always meant to be:

Not conquerors. Not crusaders. Not martyrs.
But guardians.
Of life. Of memory. Of balance.

If she looked at the hilt and could read it, she would see the inscription in High Galactic Script:
“When others fall, I remain.”
“When memory fades, I remember.”
“When justice breaks, I hold the line.”

She took it as the hilt went into the prongs and the table shifted... projectors coming along with it and giving her the information as she could manipulate the hardlight model of it to better see and apply pressure like it was being struck. She tapped a chin while she was getting to work and this was her element as the display shifted it. Letting her see at the crystals and the assembly. "Hmm." She said it while looking over parts of it. "Inscriptions are nice, it is older then some but a half well maintained saber can outlast most ships." She was looking at other parts of it. "The crystals add a good edge, the lens shows micro fracturing from the power going through it." SHe moved her finger along the hilt as she divided it from the exterior to the inner workings so it would be able to be looked at. "The power cell is good and reliable but also largely underpowered from now. The recharge by this age will have increased a handful of seconds." She saaid it while bringing up several screens around as the computers were running simulations with the blades specs being factored in and scenarios from opponents to objects to large creatures being shown. "Tuning the crystals to your current mental state will require more meditation then advanced engineering."

So, a new powercell, and meditation. Okay, that’s what I was figuring. Letting her look over the lightsaber hilt a little more, he looked around the area they were in at this mammoth temple. Feeling a little mischievous, Caltin quipped. So, where should we blindly float and follow each other to next? Just so I know you’re following me to the right place and all…

"It would be more then that but close enough. Increasing the power output it what causes the scoring around the lens. It is where the energy is burning much hotter then it would normally be rated for. Material wise you might want to use something other then durasteel. There are a number of materials much stronger and lighter weight while being able to take strikes and increased energy bleed." SHe said it while looking around as the displays for the saber continued to run through scenarios where she was looking. "The phrik throughout might be able to help it but for something quick maybe, sustained contact would see it able to last while the rest of the hilt is damaged risking the internals. Depending upon how you use it is also another factor. There is a difference between a saber for slashing, striking and deflecting."

What she was saying made sense, but it was leading towards something that he was not prepared to do, he would basically have to give up “Conservator” and what made it it.He would have to abandon the principles and values that defined his work. This was not just about changing a name or a title; it meant altering the very essence of what he had built and stood for over the years. The lightsaber was just as much a part of him as his scowl… as weird as that sounds. True, a Jedi is not defined by a lightsaber, but when you have held one this long…It was a symbol of his identity, his purpose, and his commitment to the Jedi way. Letting go of it felt like losing a part of himself, something he wasn’t sure he could ever truly recover from. The decision weighed heavily on him, leaving him conflicted and uncertain about the path ahead.

It would be a decision for another day.

I will start with the meditation and go from there. Letting her look over the lightsaber hilt a little more, he looked around. In truth, it is very much the extensio of me the cliche’ suggests. I will have to think about any more than that…

joke…

She looked at him as he seemed to be having a deep think and she bowed her head. "As you wish." With a look of neutrality the jedi master picked up the saber and returned it in a gesture with the blade end directed towards her. She waited for him to grab it and through the large workshop it opened to show other jedi who were testing their blades but some were also working with others to attune their crystals to themselves. The larger areas being used by different ones as a shard was being implanted in an iron maiden form. The tall body large but above average for a humanoid while in a room an iron monger was being given a droid. The large walker able to act as a sentient troop transport that can defend itself and do some things other walkers wouldn't normally be able to do. "We have plenty of space for meditation or testing."

Why am I not surprised?

Looking around at the area, he just put his free hand on his hip and and a look of someone really trying to hold back a laugh. He watched the Iron Monger and flourished the hilt in his hand instinctively for a moment before deciding.

Well, I wasn’t planning on doing this now, but if you’re willing to give me a few, I will.

The chamber is unlit, save for the soft glow of the kyber crystal resting in a basin of water before him — the Heart of the Guardian. Beside it, encased in a field of stasis, the Permafrost crystal hums with frozen resonance, the air around it chill and sharp.

Caltin kneels. Not rigid — grounded.

He does not cross his legs or fold his hands in traditional posture.
Instead, he rests both fists to the floor, forehead touching the stone between them — the Warrior’s Oath posture he developed in the Wilds of Rhen Var.

The hilt of Conservator is disassembled before him: its parts precisely placed in a quiet semi-circle like relics of a broken sword waiting to be re-forged. He doesn't rush to fit them together. He listens first.

No words.
No chants.
Just the heartbeat of the Force.

And in that silence, he focuses — not on technique or form, but on memory.

He sees his father’s hands, bound in cuffs.
He hears Halter’s last words — “Someone had to keep the door open.”
He feels the ice cracking around his body on Rhen Var, the Force screaming through fractured nerves.
He sees the Mandalorian dreadnought firing, the Temple on Kashyyyk falling, the moment he chose not to flee.
He sees the faces of younglings he led through fire.
The scars he still carries.
The hands he’s held as life slipped away.

He lets the pain rise — not to drown him, but to reforge him.

Then, slowly, he breathes in.

His hands rise.

And the pieces begin to move.

Not with precision. With intention.

He does not “construct” the saber — he remembers it.

Piece by piece, Conservator comes together not as a weapon — but as a truth made solid.

When the hilt locks, when the crystals align, when the hum returns — it is not a sound.
It is a promise fulfilled.

The golden blade ignites, crackling with frostlight, casting wild shadows on the walls.
He does not flinch.
He watches it.

Like one looks into a fire they've known forever.

And then he speaks — softly, as if to a brother.

We’re not finished yet.

Levitating the weapon through the Force, he whispered, as if only to Conservator.

You are not my weapon. You are my witness.
You do not burn to destroy. You burn to defend.
I give you my fire. You give me your truth.
Together, we are not power — we are purpose.

Slowly the hilt floated into his hands and a smile crept across his lips.

She watched and remained there for the moment.. letting him have his time with the crystal and the blade as she moved around the workshops... seeing the different designs that were being made for various jedi. She was looking at how he did it more then what he was doing.. it was always interesting to see how one went about it when the jedi master found a place to sit and observe. her own saber slipping from her robes aas the twin silver hilts were held with an interlocking hinge but it could be used several ways which was what made it so much more. SHe checked them and the crystals were all in tune with her.. the blades lightweight and from the outside they were sleek and reflective with the solarite metal.

Finally standing, weapon in hand, he engaged the vibrant blade and began to flourish instinctively. The movement was fluid and natural, like someone had been carrying and using the hilt for over nine hundred years and not frozen for eight hundred-fifty of them, still. The blade's hum resonated through the air as he moved, each swing leaving trails of light. His instincts sharpened with every motion, as if the weapon itself guided his hand. He felt an ancient power coursing through him, a connection to a past long forgotten but now reclaimed. The weight of the blade in his grip felt both familiar and empowering, as if it had been waiting for this moment. Each strike echoed with a purpose, a testament to the legacy he now embodied. The past and present merged in his movements, igniting a fire within him.

Fully knowing she was watching him as he disengaged, Caltin asked.

Just out of curiosity, let’s say that I did want to make some more edits, like the durasteel for example, what of the weapon as it is now would I lose? Not just logistically, but aesthetically? You know this more than I do, and I am a Weapons Master after all. The last bit was meant to be complimentary.

The jedi master remained where she was as she listened to the question and raised an eyebrow. "How do you mean?" She said it and looked at the blade. "It would be the same look, same feel. The materials might have changed but aesthetically it would easily look that same. The materials used can be fashioned to look however needed." She said it and held her own lightsaber as she looked it over and flipping it around her rfingers. "My saber looks the same as it did when I made it as an Imperial knight long ago. It has been altered but the aestetics have remained the same just newer materials and it has never lost its history or purpose."

Smirking and holding up a hand as she gave him “that look”, Caltin was not trying to be weird or superfluous in his questioning. He was simply not wanting to lose what he had in the feel of the weapon himself. Whoah, Skippy. Ha. Just asking. Remember I’ve had this hilt for a long time. It’s almost like Connel to me… heh don’t tell him that.

Taking a deep breath, and offering it back, he bowed his head. If the inscription could stay, I would appreciate it.

She looked at him. "Yes the inscriptions can be kept... pretty much everything can and would look the same just different materials underneath while the surface appears like the original." She said it while remaining where she was seated. "We are also able to do oh so much more, we have studied and improved our own design. With one of the new generator you can absorb and bleed energy from an opponents blade into an alternate force plane. It will make dissipating their blade much more interesting and vice versa. The blade can convert exotic extradimensional energy into power going through the blade and bypassing the power cell which can allow for different effects to the blade that are much more exotic."

All of this talk about what they could do, was dangerous, was, extreme, and was wonderful at the same time. There was a beauty to it that not only could be destructive, but protective as well.It was as if the potential for chaos held a strange allure, a reminder of the delicate balance between creation and destruction. The duality of their power was both awe-inspiring and terrifying, a force that could shape worlds or unravel them in an instant. However, did he need that? Were there a place for it in a weapon he had carrierd with distinction for so long?

With a simple, respectful smile, he shook his head. I don’t need “exotic”, I don’t need “powerful”, I don’t need special. I simply need to keep up.
