Rawnie Tal'verda
Tal'Verda Aliit'buir
It was a boy.
Rawnie had known this before she even went into labor. She knew it in the months leading up to this. She'd known it the first time she felt the baby squirming inside of her. She'd known it the moment she learned that she would be a mother. She'd known it in her heart. She'd known it in her soul. She'd known it in her very bones.
She had a son. He was finally here.
The birth itself had been less than pleasant. She'd gone into labor while cleaning her rifle. She kept cleaning it for hours after, just to distract herself. For twelve long hours, she did silly household chores that needed to be done. It hurt, but having something to do with her hands helped. Then Lorane arrived with help to cut him out of her, once it became apparent that her tiny body was not built for natural birth.
Now she lay in bed, only hours later, too weak to move, in too much pain to even try. But she had her baby. A healthy baby boy. Her boy. And she was in love with him already.
She smiled, eyes traveling from his surprisingly full head of pale hair, to his perfect little blue nose, to his very alert eyes. He looked so much like his father, and not just because he was blue as well. He had so many of his features. His chin, his lips, his nose, even the tiny birthmarks on his skin. Really, the only thing she could think of that he might have gotten from her was his light hair. And maybe the paleness of his skin tone had something to do with her. Echani blood was strong.
He'd cried for almost twenty minutes after he was born, but not a whole lot since. He seemed so content to just lay there in a warm blanket, pressed against his mothers breast while she alternated between feeding him, sleeping, and just staring. She liked to stare. She swore she noticed something new and different about him every time. And when he did something new, like sneezed for the first time, or got the hiccups, she swore it was the most amazing thing.
Perfection. Her little baby Galaar was absolute perfection.
