- Draws energy from dark side Force nexuses to empower individuals that are not Force Sensitive with the dark side of the Force, much like the empowerment process of the Reborn or Sith Cultists centuries ago.
- Life Siphons are able to draw and store dark side Force energy by being in proximity of powerful dark side Force Nexuses, absorbing the ambient energy they emit.
- Once the Life Siphon is fully charged, the subject that was implanted with the device can draw upon the power within and utilize the Force, much like a Sith or Dark Jedi.
Weaknesses:
- Once the energy stored within the Life Siphon is exhausted, the subject cannot access the Force until they recharge the artifact by exposing themselves to another nexus
- If the artifact's crystal lattice is damaged, the device will rapidly drain the life energy of its host, reducing them to dust.
- If the crystal is attacked by Force Light, the device will shatter and the resulting feedback will disintegrate its former host.
DESCRIPTION
Drawn by stories of the Scepter of Ragnos and its abilities to make non Force Sensitives able to wield the Force, Taeli Raaf and a small team of Sith artificers from her Order of Shadows began researching a way to replicate the effects. The scepter itself might not be available for direct study, but the stories from centuries ago that survived were enough to give the team a direction to work in.
The key, they discovered, was making use of locations powerful in the Force and manipulating the energy of these nexuses. However, Taeli did not want to complete reduce the nexuses of power like the Scepter as that could create a whole host of problems and questions that could attract unwanted attention. Constructing a prototype device that could absorb dark side energies by using Lignan Crystal, the Lady of Secrets and her alchemists traveled to Upekzar for their experiment.
Harnessing the power of the immense dark side energies around the Circle of Visions was the easy part, the next part would be less so. A volunteer from the Sith Legions was brought along to be implanted with the prototype device once it had absorbed enough ambient energy from the area, the artifact being fused into his chest through a mixture of Sith sorcery and surgery. When the procedure was complete, the subject was able to perform some small feats of the Force. However, the crystal lattice was flawed in some way and when he attempted to perform a small demonstration of Force Lightning, the crystal broke and only ashes and the broken artifact remained.
Despite the setback, the prototype had worked and Taeli set her Master Artificer to creating a more perfected device. The perfected artifact, now being called a Life Siphon, could rapidly absorb ambient dark side energies from any nexus in the Sith Empire and gift that power to those implanted with it. With a little training, any subject could become a powerful and unexpected weapon against the enemies arrayed against the Sith Empire and Taeli proceeded to inform the Emperor of her experiments.
