- Firepower — The Liberator-class was equipped with enough weapon emplacements to present a recognizable threat to enemy forces. It’s a match for most other capital ships in its class.
- Durability — With it’s durasteel hull, armored plating, and deflector shields, the Liberator-class was built sturdy enough to endure some endure direct enemy fire from another capital ship.
- Rear Guard — The Liberator-class has an overhang that can protect the Stardrive engines from enemy fire from above. Additionally, underneath the overhang there are point defense laser emplacements to protect the ship’s engines from enemy harassment.
- Carrier — The Liberator-class has an increased capacity to carry starfighters and support craft.
- Slave Rigged — The Liberator-class had the slave circuit system installed which has greatly decreased the amount of crew required to operate this capital ship.
- Tow Line — The Liberator-class has multiple grappling mags installed on the backside of the vessel which allows it to tug astronomical objects, like standed ships, through either realspace or hyperspace.
- EMP Weapons — The Liberator-class does not have adequate resistance to natural phenomena or weapons that cause electrical disturbances.
- Hangar Bays — When the Liberator-class launches it’s starfighter complement, the Turadium blast doors are wide open, and the only thing separating the hangar from the vacuum of space are magnetic shields. These magnetic shields allow physical objects like starfighters and support craft to leave the hangar bay, but on the flipside, can also let concussion strikes in once the deflector shields are down.
- Maneuverability — The Liberator-class struggles to deviate from its ongoing trajectory, in the context of a fast-moving battle, it takes a substantial amount of time for this capital ship to turn directions. To change direction requires a wide and protracted turn. The Liberator-class is an unwieldy for the helmsman to steer.
- Slave Rigged — Because this capital ship is slave rigged it’s more catastrophic when electrical disturbances occur. Slices is another potential risk that comes with a capital ship being slave rigged.
- Speed — The Liberator-class was equipped with engines that are adequate enough to move it forward but weren’t designed for pursuits of fast-moving vessels.
- Starfighters — The Liberator-class does not have enough weapon emplacements that are capable of keeping up with and shooting down starfighters. Because of this, the Liberator-class is vulnerable to starfighter harassment and bomber runs.

DESCRIPTION
When the Federal Cooperative revived the Pacific Program in 857 ABY, they immediately began to plan to put the Concord-class in production. However, it became earlier on, while galactic governments would be able to afford this line of ships, it’s price tag was beyond many planetary security budgets. To remedy this, the leadership at the Federal Cooperative decided to make a new class that used the same hull design as the Concord-class, this would be Project Liberator.
The composite hull was a significant contributing factor to the price tag of the Concord-class. So the design team put in charge of Project Liberator early on decided to ditch the expensive composite hull and replaced it with a more readily attainable material: durasteel. This created a new problem though for the design team.
The bow of the Concord-class, which the Liberator-class was modeled after, had forty torpedo launchers installed in the bow. While this wasn’t a problem when they are encased in a composite armor that can withstand direct enemy fire, durasteel was another story entirely. While a sturdy enough material, durasteel was far from impervious.
The design team debated for weeks on what to do to address this problem. Ultimately, they received a lifeline from Project Alliance, which inspired them to convert the space from a stack of torpedo launchers with an ordnance to a hangar bay with a long runway. This increased the hangar capacity of the ship and made the vessel arguably more suitable for general functions than its older sister line. With a couple tweaks with weapon emplacements, the design team completed the design for the Liberator-class in 858 ABY and rushed it into production alongside the Concord-class.
The first generation of the Liberator-class would be launched in 860 ABY.
