ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Spinal Mount Super-Heavy Turbolaser and Ion Cannon

Strengths:
  • The One-Two Punch: The Spinal mount guns are able to fire in a rapid sequence, the ion cannon leading and turbolaser following (or vice versa as the situation merits). Because of the raw power of these shots, it can effectively disable large relatively static targets.
Weaknesses:
  • Heavy Handed: The spinal mount guns are slow to aim and not terribly precise. Corvettes and frigates are hard to nail down and even Cruisers are unlikely to be hit in the same spot with both shots. The big guns are most effective against static targets like installations, though they work just fine against slow destroyers and larger vessels, these aren't ships the Rebellion is keen on tangling with most of the time.

DESCRIPTION
An obscure frigate design by HKD, the HEKD 300 isn't a 'class' per se but rather a normalized design that be heavily modified to suit a potential contract's needs. Variants of the design see widespread but fairly infrequent use, as the vessels produced by the design tend to be bulky and sluggish, albeit well armored and with lots of cargo space. The most frequent purchasers tend to be other corporations and shipping guilds, who see much value in a frigate with lots of extra space. Pirates also make use of the ship, often disguising it as just a transport with false panels, or utilizing the spacious interiors to fit large boarding parties or hidden weapon emplacements. Of all the various places the Rebellion possibly got their hands on one such vessel, looted from pirates remains the most likely.

The Spirit of Valor is a testament to the modularity of the HEKD 300 design. It's main armament is two abnormally large energy cannons, one turbolaser and one Ion, nestled in the prow of the vessel in large semi-concealed spinal mounts. These two guns offer an impressive one-two punch, but have a long recharge time. They also are very long range, and given the nature of the vessel, are most often used as either as a surprise opening, or as artillery.

While the rest of the weaponry is fairly conventional, the main draw of the ship for the Rebellion is its use as a carrier. With most of the interior section devoted to hanger space, the Spirit can fit three squadrons of strike craft, and it also sports a fairly extensive anti-air component to defend itself against similarly equipped ships. Acting in independent operations, the Spirit of Valor is more than capable of jumping into a system, disabling enemy defenses with a few well-placed volleys, and then placing itself out of harms way while Rebel squadrons complete the mission.

The Spirit of Valor is one of the more frequently utilized ships by Liberation Army General Command, it's utility and durability lending itself to many different types of missions. Like most Liberation Army warships, it features a great deal of internal automation to help confront issues with manpower.
