OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a versatile anti-armour slug
  • Image Source: ArtStation: Alex Ichim
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Initially Mathieu Brion, later on, Phaseera Manufacturing.
  • Affiliation: Silver Jedi Concord
  • Model: N/A
  • Modularity: Variants exists for several different calibres. The load properties can also be replaced.
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Durasteel, electronical components, mechanical components, chemical components, insulating components
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Slug, drill
  • Size: Very Large to Small
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Explosive Type: Drill
  • Delivery Method: Launched, drill is then self propelled
  • Effective Range: Long Range
  • Area Of Effect: Pinpoint
  • Stopping Power: Extreme
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Drill: A detachable autodrill splits from the bullet and propels itself forth upon impact.
  • Load: The slug can carry loads, commonly an ion, cryo or incendiary charge to cause additional damage or bring additional utility at the point of impact.
STRENGTHS
  • Drill: Upon impact, a powerful drill will be detached from the rest of the bullet. This drill has the capacity of penetrating extremely tough armour and thereafter damaging whatever lies behind it. This gives the weapon extreme stopping power.
  • Charges: The bullet can carry different charges that adds a greater punch once it impacts. Note that the charges does not explode.
  • Variants: The slug fits into slug throwers of different calibres and can therefore be used by almost anyone using a slug thrower. The different charges adds to the bullets versatility as it allows for it to truly be adapted to the situation and allows it to be efficient against other things than heavy armour.
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy: The slug is heavier than normal ammunition and will therefore be more encumbering for a person to carry.
  • Special Ammunition: The slug is not mass produced and in combination with it's heavier weight, it can be hard for a person to bring enough of the L'Escargots to use them solely for a slug thrower. The special ammunition tends to be used for special occasions.
  • Loud: While the L'Escargot doesn't make much noise when it is traveling, the drill is loud and noisy. Especially when drilling into hardened armour. This makes it practically impossible to use it sneakily in an environment which is not extremely noisy already.
  • EMP: The drill contains electronical components and can be deactivated by an EMP which results in a much poorer armour-piecing capacity
DESCRIPTION
Designed by Mathieu Brion in order to provide himself and his friends within the Silver Jedi Order with a armour piercing slug, the L'Escargot has proved to be a success. It is the main reason why production was moved from him onto a contractor. Still, their heavy weight and and lack of general purpose use has meant that the production has remained on a minor scale.

While the impact of the slug is deadly to a normal person or machine, it is primarily designed to destroy and disrupt armour. The L'Escargot's drill is the primary workhorse in this set-up as it will detach from the rest of the bullet and drill into the armour, destroying any wiring or other materials in its path. This can lead to the destruction of vital parts of the attacked vehicle, for instance. Naturally, the drill works on other surfaces than on plated armour too.

The different charges add even more functionality to the slug as it allows for additional effects aside from the impact of the bullet itself and the drill. The ion charge is the most commonly used one as it often goes hand in hand with the most natural target for the bullet. This does not mean that there is a shortage of incendiary and cryo charges around, however.

Stealth missions are not where L'Escargot shines as the drill often tends to be rather noisy. While it does not directly give away the position of the shooter, it does reveal that something is wrong and if the bullet hole can be located, it will only be a matter of time before the marksman is found too.

In short, the weapon is highly efficient against armoured vehicles, buildings, heavy droids and heavily armoured persons. Although firing it at a heavily armoured person can be rather grim, seeing as the drill will cause prolonged and immense suffering if allowed to continue after it has penetrated the armour itself.
