PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Standing 1.76 meters tall, Leldra Kaar is neither especially imposing in height nor outwardly built like a bruiser. Her lean, athletic frame conceals the dense musculature and unusually resilient bone structure inherited from both sides of her ancestry. At 76 kilograms she is considerably heavier than her appearance suggests, something most people only discover after making the mistake of trying to physically overpower her.

Her most immediately recognizable features are waist-length platinum-blonde hair and vivid violet-lavender eyes. Her hair is usually worn loose, though narrow braids and tied sections keep it out of her face when practicality demands it. Despite being well over a century old, her K'paur heritage leaves her appearing somewhere in her early-to-mid thirties.

Leldra dresses for shipboard life rather than spectacle. Her usual attire consists of fitted black and charcoal spacer leathers beneath a structured, high-collared long coat lined and accented in deep burgundy. Reinforced panels protect vulnerable areas without turning the ensemble into conventional armor. The clothing is expensive, well maintained, and visibly used. Very little about her appearance deliberately announces piracy because, by this point, it does not need to.

INVENTORY

• .48-Caliber Enforcer Pistol — Heavy slugthrower sidearm and Leldra's signature weapon.
• Modified Marauder-class Assault Corvette — Personal flagship and command vessel of the Red Wake.
• Two Corona-class Frigates — Principal heavy escorts of Leldra's immediate battle group.
• The Red Wake — Leldra's pirate crew and associated flotilla.
• Personal Spacer Gear — Reinforced coat, spacer leathers, utility equipment, communications gear, and the accumulated necessities of decades aboard ship.

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

Leldra is controlled, observant, and exceptionally difficult to intimidate. She rarely raises her voice and has little interest in theatrical displays of authority. The more dangerous a situation becomes, the quieter and more deliberate she tends to become. She has survived too long among dangerous people to give away more of herself than necessary, and she prefers to let others underestimate her until correcting that mistake becomes useful.

She is also unmistakably a pirate. Leldra steals, smuggles, extorts, bribes, threatens, and kills without pretending those acts become virtuous because she performs them. She believes legality and morality are separate questions, and she has very little patience for people who use lawful authority to excuse cruelty.

What Leldra does possess is a code. Her crew comes first, a bargain knowingly made is honored, and genuine distress calls are answered when circumstances permit. Life-support systems, medical facilities, and emergency infrastructure are never legitimate weapons in a private feud. Neutral ground remains neutral, and slavers receive no professional courtesy whatsoever.

Outside those boundaries, her morality becomes considerably more flexible. Leldra does not believe mercy is owed simply because someone asks for it, and she has no philosophical objection to making an example out of someone when doing so prevents larger problems later. Betrayal is remembered, debts matter, and attacks against her people can provoke retaliation far beyond the value of the original offense.

Her reputation rests less upon kindness than predictability. People who deal with Leldra generally know where her lines are, what her word is worth, and what will happen if they decide to test either.

STRENGTHS

HARD TO KILL — Leldra's Epicanthix and K'paur heritage grants her strength well beyond what her build suggests, unusually resilient bones, considerable physical durability, and accelerated healing when provided adequate rest and nutrition.

LOCKED DOOR — Her Epicanthix ancestry provides powerful natural resistance to telepathy, mental intrusion, suggestion, and Force-assisted domination. This is resistance rather than absolute immunity, but casually entering or manipulating Leldra's mind is exceptionally difficult.

CAPTAIN — More than a century of life and decades spent aboard working ships and pirate vessels have made Leldra an experienced commander. She understands crew management, logistics, raiding, interdiction, boarding operations, and the practical realities of keeping ships and people functioning far from reliable support.

THE WEIGHT OF A NAME — Leldra has accumulated favors, debts, enemies, contacts, and reputation throughout the frontier. She understands how to turn relationships into leverage and has become particularly adept at making smugglers, pirates, mercenaries, and other independent operators cooperate when their interests align.

WEAKNESSES

CONTROL — Leldra survives by controlling herself, her environment, and the situations for which she has accepted responsibility. She finds delegation difficult when failure could cost lives and has a habit of carrying burdens long after doing so stops being sensible.

OLD DEBTS — Leldra remembers loyalty for years, but she remembers betrayal just as long. She can be vindictive, and old grudges sometimes influence decisions well after immediate practical concerns should have taken precedence.

ONLY FLESH — Leldra's resistance to mental influence does not make her immune to the Force. She cannot sense danger before it happens, enhance herself supernaturally, move objects without touching them, or match powerful Force users on their own terms. She survives those encounters through preparation, experience, and weapons chosen specifically to punish careless assumptions.

K'PAUR BLOOD — Her K'paur inheritance brings increased metabolic demands along with its advantages. Accelerated healing requires substantial sleep and nutrition, particularly protein, while extended periods of exhaustion, starvation, or deprivation significantly reduce those benefits.

HISTORY

Leldra Kaar grew up around working ships, freight decks, repair yards, and ports where the reliability of a captain mattered more than whatever flag happened to be painted on the hull. She went to space young and spent years as crew before anyone entrusted her with command. Cargo work led naturally into less legitimate employment, smuggling followed, and security work eventually became raiding. Through all of it, Leldra paid careful attention to the captains above her. Some earned loyalty through competence and fairness. Others spent the lives of their crews for profit and hid cowardice behind rank. She remembered both kinds.

How Leldra first acquired a command of her own has become increasingly difficult to separate from the stories told about it. Some versions involve mutiny, while others claim the previous captain drew a weapon on her and lost. A few insist the crew had already chosen their next captain before anyone fired a shot. Leldra has never shown much interest in correcting the record.

Whatever happened, she emerged from it with a ship and a crew willing to follow her. She promised them neither safety nor respectability. What she offered was their proper share, her word, and the assurance that she would never spend their lives cheaply. For people accustomed to captains who treated crews as expendable assets, that proved more than enough.

THE RED WAKE

Years of piracy transformed Leldra from another independent captain into a recognized name throughout portions of the Outer Rim. She raided shipping, moved contraband, broke blockades, captured vessels, and cultivated relationships with smugglers, fences, mercenaries, corrupt officials, and other pirates. She was never especially concerned with whether the people she robbed deserved it, although some targets earned considerably less sympathy than others.

Ships and crews gradually accumulated around her. What began as a single crew evolved into the Red Wake, a pirate flotilla held together less by formal hierarchy than by shared profit, reputation, and confidence in Leldra's judgment. Those who sailed with her knew the rules, knew how shares were divided, and knew that Leldra expected loyalty to travel in both directions.

Her heavily modified Marauder-class assault corvette remained her flagship even after larger vessels joined the fleet. Two Corona-class frigates eventually became the principal heavy escorts of her immediate battle group, supported by smaller raiders, transports, boarding craft, and independent captains willing to answer Leldra's call. The Marauder was not the largest vessel in the formation, but nobody familiar with the Red Wake ever mistook which ship mattered most.

PLANESHIFT

The Planeshift changed the nature of Leldra's world. Old routes fractured or disappeared, and settlements that had relied upon established hyperlanes suddenly found themselves dependent upon whatever ships, resources, and infrastructure remained within reach. For pirates, merchants, and ordinary frontier communities alike, the practical geography of the galaxy changed almost overnight.

Crossroad Station endured because it possessed exactly the things suddenly required for survival: fuel storage, repair capacity, machine shops, cargo facilities, and access to a nearby planet capable of providing food and raw materials. The station had never been intended to become the center of a sector. It simply kept functioning when enough other things stopped.

Leldra's interest in Crossroad began for entirely selfish reasons. The Red Wake needed somewhere to refuel, repair, trade, recruit, and dispose of cargo, and a stable station was far more valuable than a ruined one. Protecting Crossroad therefore began as good business rather than charity.

CROSSROAD

The longer the isolation lasted, the harder it became to separate Leldra's interests from Crossroad's. Predatory gangs disrupting the docks became her problem because they disrupted trade. Feuds threatening station infrastructure became her problem because damaged infrastructure harmed everyone. Captains incapable of resolving disputes without shooting one another eventually became her problem because somebody had to convince them that Crossroad itself was worth more than whatever argument they had brought aboard.

Leldra solved those problems in the manner she understood best. Sometimes that meant negotiation, sometimes leverage, and sometimes making an example of someone sufficiently unpleasant that everyone else suddenly became more reasonable.

Crossroad never elected Leldra, and she never declared herself its ruler. There was simply nobody else with enough reach, force, and credibility to make informal rules matter. Pirates still operated from the station, contraband continued moving through its docks, and Leldra's own ships remained perfectly willing to relieve other vessels of cargo when opportunity presented itself. Crossroad was not made lawful under her influence. It was made predictable.

Certain boundaries became understood. Violence stayed away from critical infrastructure, neutral berths remained neutral, and people were free to make money legally or otherwise provided they did not damage the station that allowed everyone else to do the same. Debts were expected to be settled, and Leldra's word carried enough weight that very few people tested it casually.

Her philosophy was practical rather than charitable: a frontier could be exploited for years if you understood where to stop. Strip it bare, and eventually there would be nothing left worth stealing.

THE GATEWAY AHEAD

The frontier is changing again. Survey crews and Free Captains have begun the difficult work of charting dependable hyperspace routes toward the Core, and Crossroad sits in a position that may eventually make it the region's principal gateway back into the wider galaxy.

Reconnection promises wealth, traffic, technology, and opportunity, but it also promises attention. Governments, corporations, diplomats, investors, criminal organizations, and opportunists will inevitably follow any stable route into the region, many of them convinced they understand what Crossroad should become despite having played no part in keeping it alive.

Leldra understands that the station cannot remain dependent forever upon one pirate captain and a network of favors. Tens of thousands of people require institutions stronger than reputation alone, and she is pragmatic enough to recognize that some form of government will eventually have to replace the informal authority that grew around her.

She may even help build it. That does not mean she intends to become respectable, nor does it mean she will quietly allow newcomers to mistake civilization for ownership.
