Learning Under A Prince (Solan)

[member="Nyx"]

He grinned as she went down but when his head went and turned to look at her what he was greeted with was dirt in the eyes. That was a bit low, even for him but combat was combat and as she swept out his feet he landed hard on his back and gasped as the air left him. His skeleton strained a bit as he felt the strain on it react to the hard landing and kick but it would not be damaged so easily. His back had hit something on the ground but he ignored the pain for now as his eyes turned towards her and smiled. The moment taken to see how she would react to taking him off his feet.

As [member="Solan Charr"] fell, Nyx managed a grin as she panted for breath, her chest heaving up and down.
She shakily stood to her feet, and smirked down at her Master.
"That was the best fight I've had in awhile." She panted, her eyes roaming Solan. "And it looks like I win this round, Sol."
She held her hand to him to help him up. If he took it, she pulled him close, still grinning.
"Now that we've both been on the ground, what next?" She asked in a flirtatious tone, almost second-nature to her.

[member="Nyx"]

Solan reached up and took her hand before having her yank on his harm and he himself add a bit of spring so that he could be brought up, blinking as she pulled him close and raising his brow. "Well, we could keep fighting, or do something a bit unprofessional." He smiled himself aat her as she asked him in that tone of hers, the grin a bit crooked and his eyes testing her to see how she reacted to the same tone leaving him as he had spoken. Sure he didn't actually mean anything behind it as far as things went, never did he normally think about things like that in terms of distance, but it was fun to play that game that so many played with him.

Nyx's grin grew, and her eyes once more roamed her Master. After their first meeting, Nyx admitted she hadn't thought about him much. A pretty face, but not much more.
But after he healed her, on the sands of Tattooine, she thought about him quite a bit. Hardly a day went by that she didn't think about him at least once, even in passing. In the hell Mordred put her through every day, [member="Solan Charr"] gave her hope that she could make her hurt just as mich.

So it was with no regrets that she held on to Solan's shirt, closed her eyes, and crashed her lips onto his, waiting for a reaction from her Master.

[member="Nyx"]

He watched her not respond to him and for a moment he wasn't sure what was wrong, hell even when his empathy flared up it took him a moment to realize what was happening in her head before he blinked and she kissed him. He wasn't quite sure out to react, the girl was suppose to be his student and sure he fully knew others like Romeo Sin who would have probably taken advantage of something like this but Solan was for the most part shocked at first before he halted for a moment. The thought of what was going on register for a moment before he stared at her again and thought about her emotions that had happened, the thoughts taking less than a second so his pause still seemed minature and more surprise than rejection. It was her thankful feeling, that feeling of hope he found himself fixated on. Which is he kissed back for a moment before breaking it.

"Nyx, you know a date is how normal people express thanks or a card right?" He grinned at her, didn't patronize her, or say how wrong she was. He knew simply saying that while effect in terms of time was not how to handle understanding what had just gone through his students mind. Then again he tended to forget she was a mercenary that lived a semi-normal life just as he had been before being a soldier and a king.

Nyx's heart fluttered as she waited, that moment of anticipation utter agony. Then, for a moment, he kissed her back, and her life was bliss.
For just a moment, she was complete.

But then he broke that kiss, and spoke.
Nyx blushed as she shrugged.
"Life is short, Sole. I don't expect to make it to twenty five. I need to do things while I can."
Nyx looked down at the ground once more, a moment of silence between them.
"Is. . . Is that a no?"
Her blue eyes looked into his, uncertain, her long hair moving to expose her still-slightly scarred face.
She held her breath, awaiting his answer.

[member="Nyx"]

He looked at her eyes as she asked her questions, told him that she had to do things while she still could and for a moment he remembered himself as he stared at her. So much so that he smiled and realized just how much the last few years changed him into who he was and how they could change her as he nodded. "Yes, life is short for many people Nyx, and perhaps you won't, maybe you will. But i am here to help you survive those years to twenty five and past it... I wont lie, you are a very beautiful person, scar or not. But i am positive in that jumping at a chance to be close to someone because they helped you is not the right reaction... Sit down." He pulled away enough to motion for her to sit on the ground with him before he talked again.

"Ten years ago i helped someone and they reacted much in the way you just did, and while i grew close to that person i will always regret not knowing more about them before i made a very happy mistake. The Galaxy gives us those hard choices to find ourselves and learn. So i want you to tell me, as your teacher, about your past and show my what you have gone through." He stared at her and waited, saying nothing more on an answer to her question.

Nyx smiled at Solan's words, and sat with him. And she took a few moments to gather herself before speaking.

"I was born in the undercity of Coruscant, in an orphanage. The people in charge didn't care about us, barely fed us, and didn't even bother teaching us anything or even giving us names. I picked 'Nyx' from some dumb storybook one of the older kids read to me.
They abused us daily, hit us, called us names, and even killed a couple. When I turned six, I escaped, resigned myself to a life on the streets.
I stole enough money for food, and lived in an abandoned metro car tunnel. Three years of that, and I met Jett." Her voice stumbled when she said the name.
"We decided that it was better to work together, and lived in that car. A few others joined up, and we called ourselves the Street Rats. Another three years, and the Reds moved in. Another gang, started trouble. Came to violence a lot.
Well, it came to the Red leader challenging us to a rumble, and we accepted."
Her voice lost all emotion.

"Jett was killed in the fighting. The leader slit his throat, and laughed. I beat him to a pulp, and drowned him in a puddle.
Reds joined us after that, and we began doing bigger operations. The bigger we got, the more of my friends I watched die. I stopped caring about other people, and just about getting paid for the jobs.
Well, I hit nineteen, and decided to go anywhere but Coruscant. I traveled, taking jobs from the Cartel, moving up the ladder there. Then the Tattooine job.
Ambushed by Tusken Raiders. Took them out, but left me bleeding in the sands. Woke up in a cave with a Miraluka, and she made an offer I couldn't refuse: the power to take my life into my own hands. I took it, and I fell hard. Then I met you."

She looked up at [member="Solan Charr"], a sad smile on her face.
"Before I met you, I didn't give a kark about anybody or anything but myself. And when I was bleeding with half my face missing, I thought I was going to die alone in the dunes, with no one there to mourn me. But you were there, and you saved my life, with nothing to gain. That. . . Changed me, Sole. I care about someone, now. . . I care about you."

She was silent now, staring at the ground, twiddling her thumbs.

[member="Nyx"]

He listened to her and more so the key figure in her story. "This Jett, he was like a brother to you, right?" He stared at her and spoke a bit more in addition to his question. "I am only one person of many that put others before themselves without the care for repayment Nyx. I helped you, healed your wound, because it was not your time to die. I know that you will not die any time soon and i am honored that you care about me, and i would be lying to say that i don't care about your safety. But im not sure if i can relate to how you feel truly..."

He looked at the ground as his hands moved. "The person i protected all those years ago, she was a person whom i thought i would find no equal too. She was the first person to care about me after the death of everyone i knew and as such i imprinted on her and no i have my daughter. She died though, in that time i was gone, before i could return to her she died and that is what i want you to think about. Impulse can control us, and loss can make us vulnerable. You need to be sure what is going through your mind is what you think it is."

"Jett was. . . I suppose a brother fits."

Nyx smiled, letting a bit of humor creep into her voice.
"I live by impulse. I make it a point to never plan more than two minutes ahead."
Then her voice grew a bit more somber.

"Solan, as long as I've lived, I've had something missing inside of me. I watched everyone I ever cared about die before my eyes, and I stopped caring. About me, about other people, about anything other than credits."

She looked him directly in the eye.
"I care about you, more than I have anyone else I've ever known. Maybe what I feel is impulse, maybe it's just me being stupid, but I don't care. I know what I feel right now, and that's all that matters. Right now. The future is far away, Sole, and we'll never know what it is."
She took a deep breath.
"If you don't feel the same way, then all I ask is a chance to earn it. Give me a chance to prove what I feel to you."
She was silent once more.

[member="Nyx"]

He thought about her words but not long as he nodded. With a careful movement he changed his position so that he was sitting beside the woman and looped an arm around her shoulder. "I never said that you would not have a chance to prove it Nyx, i would be a hypocrite to everything i believe if i said that. I just don't want you to set yourself up for more pain if in the end it does not work that way. I will not say anything now as i don't know how i feel not only about you but someone else in my life... hell im great at sensing the emotions of others but i cant even understand my own most of the time. So i truly cannot say confidently if i feel the same way or don't, but if you feel strong enough to want to prove it, who am i to stop you." He would keep his arm around her and only talk, looking to comfort her and while he did he thought about it. Not just her though but his own life as he wondered about all the others he knew and associated with.

Nyx smiled in relief, and her smile grew as Solan put his arm around her, and she listened to his words as she settled her head on his shoulder. The girl sat in silence for a moment, a happy smile on her face.
"I think you'll find that if I set my mind to something, then it happens."

She looked back up at Solan.
"Thank you, for giving me a chance. I know it's dumb, but I just couldn't hold it in anymore."
Then she grew a bit more serious.
"You know that I'm in the Cartel, and I know that you cause trouble for them."
Nyx didn't want to fight Solan, but she knew that she owed Sempra, and still felt loyalty to them.

"I won't do anything with Kesh."
It may cause problems in the future, but Nyx hated the future.

[member="Nyx"]

"Please, the hutts cant do anything to me that would be a worry..." He smiled at her as she tried to say that she would leave Kesh alone and not harm it. "Nyx, i was a soldier once, for the old Shadow Empire that one Romeo Sin used to lead. Ive done things that i had no option in choosing the outcome of and that is why i can understand what it means to fight for someone even if you disagree with them. You don't have to disobey orders just because you know me, it simply signals at something im trying to teach you to control and that is letting your feelings stop you. Or well control you. You have to control them and deal with your duty first. That is why i would gladly throw my life to the frontlines if anyone threatened the people of Kesh. They are my family, every single person on this planet is no different in my protection than my own daughter. So if your working for the Cartel drives you to follow orders, then do so, no matter what happens..." He left out the last part, though the implication was clear.

She stayed silent, her mind racing. If it came down to Sempra or Solan, could she really choose? To which was she more loyal?
The girl growled and shook her head of such thoughts.
She turned to Solan once more, her blue eyes conflicted.

"You said you had a daughter. Tell me about her." She was curious about his daughter, and wanted to know more about her.

[member="Nyx"]

He smiled as it took him not time at all. "Shes only ten, i found her last year in a ruined warehouse on Nar Shadaa, covered in burns from the little gift she and i share. I had not known she had been born, or that she lived, or even she had been conceived but that didn't matter and nor does it now. Shes smart, inventive, strong. Stubborn too, though i suspect that might be a bit of me in her. She is a bit emotionless at times... and shes sick. She has a disease they can't cure. But someone i know is trying to find one, im spending a fortune trying to fine one but i cant..." He sighed as his hand turned and a flame sparked. "So thats her, too much like me for her own good."

Nyx watched Solan with a smile on her face. It was obvious that he cared much for his daughter, and it struck her heart, reminding her of her own family situation.
"She sounds lovely." Nyx said, looking at her hands. "I'm sorry to hear she's sick. I'm afraid I don't know much about sickness to help you." All she knew about it was watching fellow orphans die.

Nyx stared at the ground for a moment before speaking once more.
"I. . . I have a sister. A twin sister I never knew about. Her name is @Nox."
Their meeting hadn't been the happiest.
"I met her not too long ago. She. . . She's a Sith. Tried to kill me, put two knives in my back."
The girl was quiet once more, her face dark.
"Just a couple more scars, I suppose."

[member="Nyx"]

"Family can be a hard and difficult thing but there is no bond thicker than water. None the less though she might try to kill you again for failing last time, the indoctrination the sith use is powerful but not absolute..." He smiled at her as he told her a lie to make her feel better. Sith indoctrination was sometimes the worst thing that can be done to someone, it assured you were their willing believer and he knew that her sister would probably sooner die than become saved and broken from her trance... But Nyx seemed already hurting and needing that support, that hope. He was not going to grind any hope left into dust simply to give Nyx the reality. White lies are sometimes better than straight truths.

Nyx sighed wistfully.
"I had never considered having a sister before. . . She just wasn't what I expected."
The merc shook her head, getting worked up. She needed to work that out.

Her face morphed, and her usual jobial smirk replaced the saddened frown.
"Well, no use sitting around doing nothing."
She shot to her feet, twirling a silver lightsaber hilt in her hands, a gleam in her eyes.
"What do you say to round two? But with a twinge of civility?"

[member="Solan Charr"]

[member="Nyx"]

"Now now, you should know by now that civility and me do not go together. At all..." He smirked and let his saber come to his hand as he raised a brow. "I suppose one round wouldn't hurt too much. Did your former master give you a training setting on that thing or did she give you more than a few scars because of how very real your blade is?" Solan wanted to make sure neither of them got hurt. "And Nyx... holding things in is how the Sith were created. Please tell me what you are feeling and we can help you control, not repress or become victim to those emotions."

Nyx winced as her hand unconsciously went to her side, where there was a painful reminder of her initial training. Mordred was not fond of showing favor to her apprentice, in any form.
"There's a training mode, though we seldom used it."
The woman activated that very mode, the lightsaber's violet blade activating with a snap-hiss. She adjusted her stance, and her blue eyes stared at Solan.
"Can you talk and fight at the same time, Sole?"
