SETTING INFORMATION
Star System Name: Laranis System
Region: Seswenna SectorOuter Rim Territories
Affiliation: Laranis System Protectorate
Accessibility: Located close to several major hyperspace lanes and trade routes, merchant ships and visitors to Laranis from across the galaxy travel to and from its bustling spaceports every day. Docking fees and customs are stronger than most, but the Laranis City Spaceport boasts some of the sector’s best technicians. Security is high, and Protectorate Security ships patrol the system intensely.
Description: A small system, located near to a nexus of several major hyperspace lanes, the Laranis System is notable for its production of a variety minerals and materials and its thriving seafood industry, as well as its manufacturing of technological goods and starship components. Laranis System consists of three worlds: The small uninhabitable Laranis I, the resource-rich desert world of Laranis II, and the modern world of Laranis III, where most of the system’s wealth is concentrated. A stalwart population of almost 5 billion, ruled by the Laranis System Protectorate - a corporatocracy of the system’s most powerful conglomerates - who maintain a firm grip on power, backed by well-armed security forces and mercenary troops.

SYSTEM INFORMATION
Size: Small
Wealth: High. Most of the Laranis Systems' wealth is borne from its manufacturing, mining, and fishing industries. The mining and refinery facilities are primarily located on Laranis II, while fishing and technology manufacturing happens on Laranis III. Most of the System's extensive wealth is concentrated on Laranis III, while to a much less extent it can be found on Laranis II and the uninhabited and desolate Laranis I seeing none of it. However, when taken as a whole, wealth for the Laranis System is best described as "High", as even with limited or no wealth on Laranis I and II exists, Laranis III is a fabulously wealthy world.
Major Imports: Luxury Items, Common Goods & Foodstuffs
Major Exports: Minerals, Materials, Seafood, and Technology
Unexploited Resources: Potential undiscovered resources on Laranis II includes yet to be discovered veins of phrik, gold, silver, copper, tin, iron, bauxite, tungsten, and nickel. (All of which have previously been found on the mineral-rich world.)

SECURITY- High
Created in the wake of the Rebellion against the Empire, the Laranis System Protectorate’s military is made up from the security forces of its member-corporations. Originally recruiting war veterans, mercenaries, bounty hunters, and others looking for a paycheck in the aftermath of the Rebellion, the Protectorate gave little consideration to what side their new troops had fought for. Instead, they wanted tough, hardened soldiers willing to fight, kill, and die to preserve their economic and political power. This remains the fact today, and Protectorate Security forces are always looking to hire experienced and capable mercenaries – paying far higher than the galactic average and providing a much better standard of living to ensure loyalty.

Equipped with the very best weapons, ships, and equipment money can buy and well-trained and disciplined, the Protectorate Security is a small but formidable military and law enforcement operation. The Protectorate doesn’t shy from using the death penalty, so misconduct, corruption, and cowardice are punished harshly, while loyalty, vigilance, and skill are handsomely rewarded.

In addition, the Protectorate has recently upgraded their orbital defenses around Laranis II and III and begun using planetary shields, as well as purchasing a number of warships built by some of the galaxy’s most powerful factions. Anyone wishing to attack the system may – in time – prevail with superior numbers and material, but the costs would be high. High enough, that is, to make favoring a diplomatic solution much more desirable. As internal security and law enforcement, the Protectorate Security is ruthless, and a network of well-paid informants, spies, and intelligence-gathering ensures that the Protectorate keeps a tight leash on criminal activity (as well as subversive elements). In fact, if any criminal / black market activity occurs, it’s likely done with the blessing of one or more Protectorate member-corporations, who receive a healthy percentage of this trade as well – sufficient to create non-taxed revenue streams to fuel their unending corporate rivalries. On the surface, Laranis System appears to be efficient, democratic, and prosperous, but beneath this veneer, assassination, corporate espionage, sabotage, etc. are commonplace and the rights of the people are often traded for the welfare and future success of the corporations who employ them. Protectorate Security is always willing and able to help accomplish this.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

First colonized in the aftermath of the Clone Wars, the discovery of precious metals, minerals, and other materials on Laranis II triggered a ‘gold rush’ which continued until the Rebellion. Fearing that these materials – and the wealth they promised – would fall into the hands of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Emperor Palpatine ordered the system locked down, dispatching a flotilla of Star Destroyers there. Under Imperial blockade, the system suffered and little to no growth was had.

Following the defeat of the Imperial forces at the Battle of Endor and the death of the Emperor, the Imperial ships were recalled and trade returned. The few successful mining companies which had remained in operation, providing materials to the Empire, had grown wealthy during the Rebellion, selling materials to rebuild the Imperial Navy following several defeats at the hands of the Rebels. They now held powerful sway over the entire system, using their wealth and influence to throttle control there, establishing the Laranis System Protectorate, a corporatocratic government ruled by the fifteen most powerful companies in the system. Over time, new companies would form and some would come to rival and even supplant the original fifteen, creating a ‘spoils’ system wherein the most successful and wealthiest corporations formed the Protectorate. This created a cutthroat culture of corporate rivalry, espionage, sabotage, and more. Companies hired mercenaries to protect their interests, styling them as ‘Security Forces’, and together, these became the Protectorate’s small but formidable military, equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, ships, and equipment and created from seasoned veterans, bounty hunters, and others who’d made their bones fighting on either side of the Rebellion.

For centuries, Laranis grew into a prosperous and influential system, independent of the New Republic and subsequent powers, and during the Gulag Plague, it sealed itself to the outside galaxy. It wasn’t until the waning years of that time that the system re-opened and emerged a notable player in Outer Rim politics as well as galactic economics.

Three worlds make up the Laranis System: Laranis I, a small and bitterly hot and lifeless rock incapable of supporting life. Laranis II, the next planet out from the sun, was a dry, desolate and rugged world whose real value lay in the bounty of resources beneath the ground. From phrik and iron to gold and silver, Laranis II seemed to have it all, and through exploitation of this, many an enterprising prospector has become a wealthy man and found himself and his corporate legacy a veritable fixture in Laranisian politics and economy. Finally, Laranis III, the last planet in the system, home to most of its citizens, is a lush, temperate world noted for frequent rains and a stormy seasons, oceans teeming with fish and other marine life which have become popular food sources across the galaxy, and is home to the system capital, Laranis City.

Thanks for the compliments! I appreciate it!

Source credit to original post for NASA image given (at least, I think it's the original post anyway) and the artist's name is given too.

Hope this helps!

Handling secondary review.

This is a fine sub. There are just two minor things to take care of, then it can be approved.

Wealth: High
Could you please elaborate on this a bit? Couple sentences suffice.

Unexploited Resources: None known; potential undiscovered resources on Laranis II
It's perfectly fine for the resources to be unknown ICly, but a submission is primarily a compilation of ooc information. So if there are any unexploited resources, please list them. You can keep in that they have not been discovered so far.
