OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a cargo and salvage ring system to move equipment from Laekia to starships in orbit, or to an orbiting station for salvage. More excitingly, to submit a ring system used by brash pilots as a proving ground
  • Image Credit: X-Wing Alliance but this photo is youtube
  • Canon: Not this one but inspired by Pilot Proving Grounds
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Pilot Proving Grounds
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Laekia Cargo and Salvage Transfer System (By Pilots: The Rings)
  • Classification: Cargo and Salvage Transfer System, pilot proving ground
  • Location: Low and High Orbit of Laekia
  • Affiliation: Laekia Government and Military
  • Accessibility: Restricted, so naturally pilots have been breaking in to test their meddle for as long as its been active
  • Description: The system of rings designed to move cargo from low-orbit loadlifters up to waiting starships for export, waiting space stations for storage, or from ships in orbit to the planet for import or to the salvage station to be converted to base elements.
POINTS OF INTEREST
A system of 300+ rings that use maglev technology to accelerate boxes or large ingots of cargo/salvage. There are a total of 5 platforms that can be moved for larger starships to dock with to transfer cargo on and off the ship. The system can link to several of the salvage stations and general space stations to move equipment.

In high orbit is a small station that is run by droids and skeleton crew to change the organization and destination of all parts of the system.

SECURITY
Medium - In orbit of Laekia, the capital of the Levantine Sanctum

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The primary purpose of the Cargo and Salvage Transfer System (CSTS) is to move cargo and salvage to and from Laekia, the space stations, and starships in low and high orbit. The system involves several platforms that can be moved for starships and is flexible in its ability to change its layout to allow for different locations and paths for the cargo and salvage. It is a very important system for Laekia to move goods around without needing some of the freighter pilots to land on the planet.

But ever since it was created? Starfighter pilots in the Levantine Sanctum and other brash explorer pilots have been using it to prove their meddle and skill among each other. Holding time trials between themselves and ready room bets, the rings have been used to fling starfighters through the circuit to compete for who can do it the fastest. While the design is for cargo boxes and ingots to be slaved through the system, starfighters with their own propulsion change the game by moving faster and relying on the pilot’s skills

The pilots, with their astromechs have hacked into the main station that runs the system to change the course of the rings to create different race courses, or speed up the maglev system to increase the ship speed. However, the slice is not always perfect and some rings become catty-cornered or reversed, or perpendicular to the course. Using the right charge of a laser blast, pilots have determined it is possible to change the orientation of the ring for the race course.

Laekia’s local military does know of the pilots extra curriculars with the rings, but has opted to not interfere as the pilots who survive are the better for it.
