Lacertilla

Jen'asha Station
Secret Aurora Industries laboratory

What had once been a mining and exploration station in Otherspace in the days of Rave Merrill, Jen'asha Station had undergone a complete remodel. Aurora Industries needed a fully secure facility to develop top-secret projects, a location that was beyond most beings abilities to reach unless knew how.

That was why Taeli Raaf had designated the station was the location for several projects that needed to be kept absolutely secret, including Project Lacertilla. With a few bioengineers, along with a few Charon that didn't submit to the Cult of the Void, they had begun to develop a brand new serum.

"Doctor, how goes it?" Taeli said, her blue flickering form appearing on the lead doctor's desk.

"It goes well, ma'am," Doctor Yurlin said, looking up from the datapad. The older Lorrdian had been known as a man who specialized in theoretical bioengineering and gene splicing, and had been personally headhunted by Taeli herself. His team was about to begin first tests on their serum upon test subjects that had volunteered, all of them in need of this serum. "We are about to begin first tests, we have high hopes."

"Keep me informed Doctor," she ordered, looking over her shoulder. "Written reports are fine, just send them through the secure link directly to myself or Jaxson only. Understood?"

"Of course, ma'am," the doctor said and the image of his boss flickered out. Getting out from behind his desk, he made his way to the development and research lab.

Project Lacertilla: Report A-01
Triple Encrypted transmission to CEO and CCO

Subject Alpha, Corellian male suffering from chronic skin cysts, was brought in and given a dose of EX-324. Subject appeared to accept the modified Abyssin genes into their system as the cysts began to heal almost immediately, however, it appears our hopes of a full bonding were misplaced. Subject began to scream in pain as the genes were rejected and they began to undergo a rapid cellular degeneration. Full collapse happened within moments of failure.

Subject Alpha was euthanized to spare them further pain. We are examining the body to locate and subvert the causes of the rejection. We are hopeful that further test subjects will not end up in the same state.

Subject Beta, Rodian female presenting with atrophied muscle syndrome, was administered a dose of EX-324 after careful observation of Subject Alpha's remains gave the team some insight into how the rejection took place. However, we did not account for Subject Beta's other condition as the bonding took place. Subject Beta is a Rodian, but because of the vast amount of Yuuzhan Vong tech and such present on Rodia, she had apparently tried to fix her condition through the use of a Vong biot.

Our medical sensors immediately detected a spike of intense pain that lasted throughout the bonding process of the Abyssin genes. At first, Subject Beta's muscles began to regenerate, our models predicting that the muscular power would be increased proving accurate. That was when the Subject's Yuuzhan Vong biot began reacting negatively to the serum.

Something we had not anticipated at all, but the serum is not compatible to any Yuuzhan Vong genes and the resulting conflict produced some interesting results. Needless to say, we had to clean the lab before continuing as the subject ... I will spare you the details, ma'am. However, we did gain some valuable data.

Subject Charlie, Devaronian male with internal hemorrhaging in the stomach, was administered a dose of EX-324 upon lab being cleaned and brought into the testing site. Pain seems to be a reoccurring theme in the bonding process, so I have developed a theory as to why. With the introduction and incorporation of the Abyssin cells, the subject's body initially does not know how to handle the foreign material entering into the cells and the body's immune system attacks it at first.

As the bonding takes, the immune system recognizes and stops attacking. If rejected, the body's entire system will tear itself apart to try and get rid of the foreign material as quickly as possible. Subject Charlie, unfortunately, falls into the later category as the bonding was rejected yet again. We are modifying the serum as I send this report as we have identified what might be the cause of the higher than expected rejections.

The serum has been reworked, eliminating certain genetic markers that were clashing with subjects. I am hopeful the new version of EX-324 will be more stable in the bonding process at the least, however, I do suspect we will see continued rejections in the future. The serum is not the most stable creation and there is only so much we can do to stabilize the process.

Subject Delta will be administered the new version at the early possible time, but we are still running some projections on viability. I will transmit the data once we have it, along with my next report.

Subject Delta, Bothan female, was administered the modified EX-324 and results couldn't have been more different. The bonding process is still registering sharp pain spikes, validating my earlier theory, however the bonding process was accepted fully in this case. Subject Delta was subjected to certain tests, needle point, slice wounds, etc.

Superficial wounds were able to heal in seconds, although we are picking up an unusual response in the subject's metabolic balance and their temperature equilibrium. Metabolic processes have increased by 32% and temperature is increasing at same rate. Muscle strength has also been increased by roughly 67% as Subject Delta was able to lift roughly 113 kg with one hand. Theorizing that the increases are tied into the healing factor and muscle strength increase. Will keep observation and testing of Delta going while Echo is prepped for injection.

Subject Delta continues to show signs that the serum was accepted into her system, however the metabolic boost is a problem that we are trying to figure out how to address, if it can be. The subject has begun eating more than twice the rations that she was eating beforehand, and I theorize that unless the intact of nutrients is kept at double the amount, the cells will begin to destroy themselves to fuel the serum. However, all positive effects are remaining.

Subject Echo, a Huk male, has also been administered the serum, with the process being accepted. Subject Echo has proven that the increased healing passes over species lines, but we will continue testing on multiple subjects to further branch out which species are able to accept it and which are unable to cope. Strength has increased by roughly 50% so another theory we have developed is the strength increase is relative to muscle buildup in the subject before injection.

Subject Delta has, unfortunately, expired. The metabolic increase became too much for her nutrient intake to balance out with, and her cells began to burn themselves in order to keep the serum active. We made sure to keep reliable data flowing and we have a way, we think, to at least stabilize the process where the subject will only require double their original intake. The weakness will remain of the cells eating away at each other, but the continued increase should be mitigated.

Subject Echo has been administered the fix we synthesized after Delta's expiration and the increases have stopped in his metabolic system and have subsided to just double his baseline. Echo is our most stable subject to date, however, the temperature increase is affecting him in a greater way than it was on Delta. Something about the physiology of the Huk is reacting with the serum, but nothing dangerous as of yet.

Subject Foxtrot is next up on our testing, and hopes are high.

Subject Echo is still with us and feeling better than ever. The healing factor has allowed him to recover rapidly from various wounds inflicted during testing and his strength is definitely impressive. However, we have discovered a limit to the amount of healing the subject can do, with the introduced Abyssin cells. Limbs, while an Abyssin can regenerate them, will not be regrown by the subject as Echo found out when they foolish decided to lop their own hand off out of arrogance.

Subject Foxtrot, Echani male, unfortunately rejected the bonding process. We believe it was mainly due to personal genetics rather than just an indication that an Echani is unable to take the serum.

Subject Gamma, Echani female, has accepted the serum, reinforcing the idea it was personal genetics in Foxtrot.

As we reach this stage of the project, the serum has been reaching all the milestones we set for it. While there have been some sacrifices along the way, we have a workable product now and we will be sending samples to the Styx facility to begin limited production of the serum for distribution in the next freighter trip.

Testing will continue and we will strive to better the serum as we continue.
