- Infantry Shielding - Infantry are protected by a visible Solar Ray Shield that deploys around the side doors in a half-dome shape approx. 10m in diameter. This can activated by the pilot using the "Double side" shielding feature, which transfers some of the shield's power to the wing-mounted shield generators at the expense of foreword shield strength. This can defend dismounting infantry from most energy based small arms fire and non-starship grade emplacements.
- Solar Ray Shielding - Craft is protected by two Solar Ray Shield generators at the fore, recognizable by their dark color and dome-like shape. These shields also come with a Double-front toggle that can increase the shield's strength at the front of the craft, at the expense of rear strength.
- Blind Spot - Craft does not feature rear weaponry and may require fighter escort in contested airspace.
- Directional Shielding - Using the double-front system decreases strength to rear shields in favor of a strong frontal defense, similarly, using the Infantry-shielding feature decreases strength to both the front and rear shields in favor of strong defense of dismounting infantry, leaving the craft more vulnerable to heavy weapons from uncovered angles.
The Low Atmospheric Armored Transport\Cross-Shielding Type or simply "LAAT\X" was designed by Black Hand Collective as a solution to danger close drops in hostile territory, manufactured for use by the Mandalorian Protectors. The company used combat data collected from the Black Fleet and prior iteration of the Nite Owls throughout the Shadow Crusade to tackle issues commonly faced by warriors during combat drops, the primary source of complaint being that a soldier was at their most vulnerable in those few minutes as they leave a dropship. In the past, this would often force the pilot to land the ship far from the conflict even while facing an enemy with little to no Anti-air capability.
To combat this issue, The Black Hand began mounting shield projectors on the wing of a LAAT-type gunship with a double-front system that could be oriented sidelong to protect infantry as they emerged from the opening side doors.
During the Caldera Crisis, the Mandalorians found themselves facing down undead that roamed the tingel arm as the sith made a gamble to expand from korriban, and it is among these battlefronts that the LAAT\X were first deployed to assist the protectors, seeing wide use by the Black Hand especially. They were quickly upgraded with rotary door cannons that could be used by passengers to slaughter undead hordes from the skies and out of their reach, giving the LAAT\X a secondary designation as a de facto gunship.
