A innovative furtherance of Helix's J77 anti-obstruction system, this shipboard weapon is intended to counter armored enemy hulls.
Like the smaller Drawbridge system, the Stampede first launches a blue-white beam of meson-disrupting energies, which can briefly unbalance the chemical composition of solid objects. The Stampede, however, follows up a fraction of a second later with a bright-crimson, high-intensity blast of Otherplasma.
To most creatures' perception of time, this follow-up is so quick as to be effectively simultaneous, blending the colors together into a visible, bright-purple energy discharge.
The intended result is that an armored hull will become dramatically weaker immediately before the plasma follows up, potentially inflicting catastrophic damage. As such, the Stampede is typically fitted with integrated Aftershock software, the better to take advantage of fleeting gaps in the enemy's defenses. The Stampede is thus exceptionally accurate, enough so to precision-target miniscule holes in enemy shielding, individual ground vehicles from orbit, or other small targets at a naval scale. This accuracy is coupled with an ingenious multi-axis traversal system, granting both superb turn speed and a vast field of fire. As such, it can prove a credible threat to fast-moving strike craft, though this is traditionally not its intended role.
Against downed shields or unshielded/lightly shielded targets, this weapon is devastating. Few armors will suffice to offer any protection from its ability to dissolve them, allowing the Stampede to hit comfortably above its weight class in most cases.
As energy shields are not solid matter, the Stampede cannot as easily tear through them as it can armor. While the incredible temperatures of its Otherplasma munitions can still batter through shielding eventually, it is not this weapon's intended purpose, and a wise commander will typically look to other options to lower his enemy's defenses in the first place,
