TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Sealed Chassis: The Operarius is designed to work in rough environments, from factory floors and warehoses, like many droids. To that end, it uses dark alusteel plating chosen largely for protection and all of its wires and joints are covered with Defensa Textile. This effective seals the droid's internal components from the outside environment. Internally, the Operarius has a Droid System Fortification to make it more reliable in the case the chassis is breached. Consequently, the Operarius does not worry about sandstorms clogging up its servomotors or acid rain seeping in to corrode its wiring. The droid is even capable of being fully submerged underwater or operating in vacuum if need be.
  • Modular Locomotion Backplate: The Operarius's backplate is designed to accept a wide variety of locomotion devices such as rocket packs, jetpacks, repulsor packs, underwater drives, and other locomotion devices including both the Mailoc Photonic Rocket Pack and and the Drexl Flightpack. This feature combined with its sealed chassis allows the Operarius to be easily adapted to work in a variety of environments, from outer space when working in orbital shipyards to underwater when performing maintenance on Lucerne Labs submerged facilities. Repulsor packs are probably the most commonly chosen device, however, as they provide a great deal of vertical mobility for most jobs, allowing the droid to simply float up and down when moving heavy objects.
  • Knowledge Cartridge Input Slots: The back panel of the droid conceals of a panel of knowledge cartridge slots. This allows even non-tech savvy owners to quickly give their droids new skills or knowledge with very little time and effort. These cartridges are almost always very basic skill cartridges because of its limited processor ability. Common choices include industrial cleaning, item inventory, welding, painting, masonry, and other basic common industrial tasks.
STRENGTHS
  • Cheap: The Operarius is a fairly simple design overall, with a limited number of fairly basic components including a cheap processor. While not quite as a cheap as the older ASP droids, it is pretty cheap, especially when bought in bulk.
  • Strong: The Operarius is quite strong for a droid, having the strength of a typical loadlifter droid, allowing it to tirelessly move heavy objects around with ease.
  • Adaptable: The Operarius has a little bit more adaptability to it than the typical labor droid. Its sealed chassis and locomotion backplate means that it can be easily adapted to work in different environments, while its knowledge cartridges mean it can adapted to perform many menial tasks or low-end trade jobs.

WEAKNESSES
  • Simple-minded: The basic processor found on the Operarius keeps costs low, but it's not particularly intelligent and tends to take things quite literally. It has been programmed to have no other interests except performing its designated task, which makes it a poor conversationalist for most people.
  • Poor Combatant: The Operarius not designed for combat, having no weapons or any combat programming by default.
DESCRIPTION
Labor droids form the backbone of many companies in the galaxy - they work tirelessly without complaint and tend to be cheaper in the long-run compared to most organics in low-skill positions. The Operarius is Lucerne Labs's most common labor droid model, and one that sees extensive inhouse use within the Lucerne consortium.

Standing nearly three meters tall, Operarius tend to tower over most humanoids and have the strength of at least several to match. Roughly modeled on a handful of loadlifting droid designs, the Operarius largely trades intelligence for raw strength. Oversized servos backed by reinforced joints makes it capable of lifting and moving thousands of kilograms on its own - this is perhaps its greatest selling point to outside buyers - yet the Operarius manages to have just enough intelligence in its processor to not be completely dimwitted, unlike many binary loadlifters. Instead, its work-eager personality glad takes up any task given to it. Aside from the most menial tasks, the Operarius has a pair of knowledge cartridge slots which can take different skill cartridges, making it somewhat more versatile than the average labor droid. Such cannisters might give the droid the knowledge to perform janitorial duties, paint, lay brickes, pour duracrete, weld, perform basic machining operations, or sort out scrap components. Combined by a clear intention to make the droids easy to adapt to different environments, the Operarius is probably one of the more adaptable labor droids on the market.

Unlike most of the company's products, the L5 is widely available for civilian sale, with the company counting everyone from first time droid owners on the Outer Rim to large corporate conglomerates based in the Core Worlds as purchasers of these units. The company itself makes extensive use of L5s, with armies of them being deployed in its orbital shipyards and its underwater factories to perform a variety of tasks. As one of the few purely civilian and popular products in its product line, the Operarius is almost guaranteed a long production run with the company.
