- Internal Cargo Container: Most of the Adjutor's boxy chassis is actually a cargo hold which can carry over a hundred kilograms of cargo, allowing the Adjutor haul ammunition, medical supplies, explosives, and other important supplies to units on the battlefield. The Adjutor's two retractable arms can both move things in and out of this cargo hold, allowing to load and unload itself without any need for organic interaction.
- Remote Control: Instead of using its simplistic droid brain, the Adjutor can alternatively be remotely controlled by an organic operator, typically through a datapad or battle armor HUD system. In this mode, the operator can see through the droid's electro photo receptor as if he were the droid, and then operate the droid's manipulator hands to perform different actions. This allows the droid to perform very complicated tasks and missions with the creativity of organic - an otherwise impossibility for a droid with such basic computing power and no personality. Some units use this ability to effectively turn Adjutors into mobile bombs, moving the droid to just the right place and then having the droid detonate explosives carried in its cargo container. Other common uses for this mode are basic reconnaissance and battlefield rescue of injured soldiers and civilians.
- Knowledge Cartridge Input Slots: The droid has a pair of slots into which knowledge cartridges can be easily inserted. This allows even the most tech-challenged grunt to quickly give their droids new skills or knowledge with very little time and work. Common knowledge cartridges include those that contain technical data packages for certain vehicles or weapons, or maps of the surrounding areas or mission specific data. Skill cartridges vary a lot more widely depending on an owner's taste, but anything from common maintenance tasks such as cleaning barracks or weapons to precisely programming explosive devices or basic ground vehicle piloting are possible.
- Resistant (Energy): Duraplast armor provides the Adjutor with reasonable protection from blasters and other common energy weapons.
- Resistant (Thermal): Duraplast armor provides the Adjutor with reasonable protection from extreme heat and some heat-based weapons like flamethrowers and some explosives.
- Resistant (Kinetic): Duraplast armor provides the Adjutor with reasonable protection from slugthrowers, blunt impact, and common physical weapons.
- Disposable: The Adjutor is designed to be very cheap, being only slightly more expensive than the famous MSE-6, making its loss on the battlefield or in other hazardous roles insignificant.
- Low Resistance (Lightsabers): The Adjutor has no intentional protection against lightsabers, though occasionally the duraplast plating may provide very minor resistance against such attacks.
- Low Resistance (Radiation): The Adjutor has no intentional protection against radiation weapons.
- Low Resistance (Sonic): The Adjutor has no intentional protection against sonic weapons.
- Low Quality Components: Cheapness comes at a cost, and the Adjutor's components, aside from its armor plating, are known for being cheap, flimsy, and relatively low quality. The droid's personality is similarly nonexistent on the account of using cheap, consumer level computing components.
The L4 Adjutor is designed to provide the average infantry squad with a disposable utility droid, much like the MSE-6 "Mouse" droid used by the Galactic Empire in the past onboard starships and space stations. L4s can fulfill a similar role, guiding troops in unfamiliar or labyrinthian areas, transporting messages or small amounts of supplies, or performing menial maintenance tasks such as cleaning areas or gathering items. Unlike the MSE-6, the Adjutor is specifically designed to be used on the battlefield and in harsher conditions than its similarly diminutive predecessor. Duraplast armor allows the droid to typically take several hits from many common weapons before the droid takes damage, and the repulsorlift allows the droid to transverse at a greater amount of terrain types quickly and quietly. Perhaps most importantly, the Adjutor comes with a large internal compartment designed to allow it to carry over a hundred kilograms of target. A lot of time, this allows the droid to resupply soldiers on the front with ammunition, medical supplies, and other mission essential gear. But rather than simply transport items, Lucerne Labs programmed the droid to be able to perform some simple battlefield tasks using its strength and cargo capacity, including placing explosives and dragging wounded personnel out of harm's way. This former ability to move explosives has made the droid particularly popular, and the droid has been used to place large demolition charges in hard to reach places and set up minefields. Some users are even willing to remotely operate their droids and then detonate explosives held within the droid's cargo bay, effectively turning it into a mobile bomb. However, personnel who become more attached to their droids or who are more cost conscious tend to swap the droid's knowledge cartridges, which enable the droid to perform many menial tasks such as cleaning or guiding people around locations to make life easier.
While few people expected much out of a droid that is almost more tool than autonomous robot, the Adjutor's cheap cost and versatility has already made it a fairly popular on the military and governmental market. For the price of an already cheap ASP droid, a purchase could purchase several Adjutors, which can act as couriers and general maintenance droids in times of peace, or rescue and demolition assets during war. This versatility has made them popular with supply departments, who often feel like the droid can be pressed into most roles with only a little work, though it is clear to most people that dedicated specialty droids tend to be far more effective. But the Adjutor's supporters quickly argue that an Adjutor can also be cheaply replaced or used of disposably, which is an argument that the droid's detractors have not been able to successfully refute in the court of public opinion.
L2 Navigators were originally produced to supply the Directorate and allied organizations - where they frequently are found in the sockets of starfighters or in the droid bays of larger starships -, but they are becoming more common in the hands of independent operators and civilians. While the R-series still do tend to be cheaper than the Navigators, the L2s are gaining a good reputation among scouts and explorers for their ruggedness and navigational abilities.
Its lifting capacity is even great enough that it can drag wounded personnel to safety.
