Korriban.​

A world of darkness. A graveyeard planet. A tombworld. All of those names have applied to Korriban since it's discovery. It has been a source of evil, of unrest, and of threat to the order in the Galaxy. However, most recently it has turned into a beacon of hope. A display to the Galaxy that no matter how severe the evil, no matter how dangerous the individuals, and no matter how depraved the Empire, democracy [[and tef's tyranny]] shall always reign supreme. The Republic had displayed that in it's undeniable annihilation of the Sith Empire, and now they claimed the planet. The invasion had been savage - War had swept the planet, and destroyed vast swathes of land... Land that until now, lay undisturbed. Land that was home to the tombs of Sith Lords long lost to the ages... Land that now could hold the key to ensuring the eradication of Heretics galaxy-wide.

Strangely the temple that the Sith had chosen to make their last stand at was mostly still standing, however, this suited his purpose fine. While craters in it's walls allowed the chilling wind to sweep in and give the auditory illusion of raging spirits, it was still operational. The once dread throne room had been converted into a base of operations - A buzzing hive of republic activity, which spread from there across the local area to many of the recently uncovered crypts and tombs. Unlike previous assaults upon the world, where the Republic had sought to eradicate the Sith by annihilating their seats of power, Carn had taken it upon himself to take the seat of the Emperor as his own. The message he intended to give was clear - The Sith Empire was annihilated. It's seat of power was under Jedi control, and there he intended it to stay... Or die in the attempt.

Still. All was not well on Korriban. These recently uncovered tombs were of a troublesome nature - Squads of troopers had fallen foul of traps, lost Sith, and even the taint of the Darkside. Those that had not fallen tended to be of a more cautious nature, and cautious natures tended to value knowledge and careful planning over diving into the unknown without any form of preparation. It was with this in mind that Carn had requested the presence of one Jedi Councillor @[member="Phylis Alince"], a renowned scholar and archaeologist within the Jedi Order upon the world. There was much to be learned from the tombs of their fallen cousins which could help to ensure that the Sith Empire would never return, and Carn, with Phylis' help, intended to ensure that any and all knowledge would be added to the grand archives of the Order. And so it was with this in mind that he waited for his fellow Council member and her team of Jedi. In his mind the future safety of both Jedi and Democracy was at stake, so while he wished the work to be done thoroughly, he also saw no point in resting on the Laurels of the Republic's victory upon the world.

There was work to be done.

Also: Any darksiders that haven't yet managed to get off Korriban are more than welcome to show up in the tombs that we're going to be delving into, come out of your hiding placess, or even sneak back on world to sabotage Republic efforts. The name of the game here is interesting roleplay, because I don't really want Korriban to be one of the many worlds in the Republic's sphere of influence that just gets ignored, and doesn't really have any follow up roleplay to show what's happened to it, mostly because it was the Sith's last stand, and also because of the really rich heritage this planet has in terms of things that can be found/roleplayed.

[Arors Drusus]

Ash and soot covered the face of the petty sith known as Arors Drusus. It had been what felt like mere hours, yet at the same time a lift time since the place of his enslavement to the dark side had been vanquished by the forces of light. There were Jedi occupying the planet, and their respective Republic occupants. He had lived since his first battle amazingly, apparently adept enough in sword play to cut his way through infantry and the likes, and simply not important enough for any Jedi. He had survived on his speed, caution, and simple fear until the battle was decidedly won. It came as a surprise to Drusus that Voracitos had not done more, but then again, the last he knew he was dead. Perhaps the presence of the republic merely stirred his spirit within his grave, and what he felt was not his all might malevolence... or perhaps the more likely answer was that his former Master simply could not make a large enough defense, he was a single man after all, and the Republic was many, while the Empire had lost its steam long ago as he described it to him once. Not directly of course, it was a rare overheard conversation.

He was relatively alone, only because the other Sith students were either dead, dying, running to their deaths, betraying one another before the other three options, or they simply just didn't like Drusus. He was a strange child after all, who had a difficult time strongly hating, and using it for power. Being a good student, was hard as a Sith who grew up around parents who preached love and acceptance. Effort though, was never a problem for Drusus, and he was exhibiting quite a lot of it to stay alive. What for he didn't know, but if his owner's presence had been here he must have some purpose to fulfill. As a former slave, he couldn't help but attempt to answer his Lord and Master's call.

His stomach rumbled as he peered through some slit between a large pile of sandy stones, spying on a Republic scouting party. His eyes moved down momentarily as he acknowledged his hunger. They probably had rations. They only had blasters, and there were undoubtedly so many other reports around Korriban of Sith left behind, his presence being alerted would mean nothing to whoever was on the other end of these scouts communications devices. They would not be missed, and if they are, it was their duty die anyway. Using what little he knew of stealth to get close to them, he ambushed them with a flailing orange blade.

Their rations were as bad as their screams, as he ate them, it made him turn his nose in disgust... a little bit because of their smell, and a lot more of it because he was forced doing such things.

Askrut pased before the temple. Something was wrong with this world. It was so dark, so evil. Why could someone cause this? What would one gain, in the end. Still, beyond that, something else was...... different. The Force was calling to him, begging him to listen. And so he did. And, after much time, it came to him. Squad 5. Slaughtered. One man, standing there.

A worthless waste of life. Why did it have to be this way?

Arriving on Korriban gave Phylis Alince mixed emotions. On the one hand she was having a total ‘squee’ moment from finally going on the biggest field trip of them all. On the other, she knew this was no journey to a petting zoo. Korriban was dangerous, even without remnants of the Sith wandering around.

As she landed at the Republic’s command post near the head of the Valley of the Dark Lords the Jedi Master took in the wreck of the recent battle and nodded. This would be her test. Whereas other Jedi validated themselves through battle and war, she was most useful combing through the ruins.

“Master Dista, I’ve arrived at Outpost Liberty. What is your location?”

So this was Korriban.

Graveyard world, home to tombs upon tombs, home world of the Sith. Many other names could apply, but these sufficed. Recently conquered by the Republic at the end of its Crusade. A crusade that had seen a Republic-contracted trooper sink half a city on a Republic planet called Manaan, with a staggering death toll running into the thousands. So far there had been no comment from the Republic government. Of course, history is written by the victors. So it had always been and so it would always be. The Sith were defeated, their empire broken, now the great scramble for territory had begun, for the spoils go to the victor. So far the Republic seemed to be well positioned to get the lion's share of territory to impose democracy on. Of course, she was happy to see the Empire broken. The ease with which it had went down only furthered her conviction that it could have been defeated, perhaps with less devastation, if the Republic had stuck to its guns after Metalorn and not signed that traitorous agreement - nay, alliance - with the enemy. But no point dwelling on what ifs, what happened had happened.

Were the Sith truly gone? They had been defeated before and retreated into the shadows before, several times over the millennia, only to be reborn, usually from the ranks of the Jedi Order. One might call it a vicious cycle that seemed never-ending. The result being misery, war and bloodshed. Of course, the woman making her way through the sand covered wasteland, littered with the detritus of war, a fallen obelisk with bizarre symbols engraved upon it up, ahead, was not usually inclined towards introspection. That said, she really, really doubted Darth Shadow had gone down with them.

One day...she would find him...and she would end him. Permanently.

She had never set foot upon the tombworld, though once she had yearned to come here and conquer it, smash the Sith. It would have been beautiful, destructive and glorious. Now she was...wiser would be the wrong word, but more cynical. She passed the wreckage of a tank, perhaps Sith, perhaps Republic, now just smoking debris not even worth salvaging, along with a few skeletons, stripped of all their flesh by the vultures, casualties from a battle fought ages before, or maybe salvagers. In the end it did not really matter. Korriban was a death world, the stench of death was palpable in the air and the sun merciless and unyielding.

Ahead in the Valley of Dark Lords lay the tombs of Sith from ages past. Of course, as romantic as those notions of uncovering dangerous artefacts and facing Sith spirits bound to tombs were, presumably most of the riches had long been stolen as each age produced salvagers brave, foolish or greedy enough to brave the hazards of Korriban to come and plunder. Not that she was interested in any of the artefacts - she had enough bad experiences with those! Same went for voices inside her head - no desire to revisit that!

The wind howled, perhaps it was the spirits as well, of Sith, of all those who had fallen and were bound to this world. The Sith might be gone, but nonetheless she came armed. for Korriban still had its share of dangers. Starting with beasties, like a couple Tu'kata a few miles away, who had just been claimed by the blade of her lightsabre or the fire of her boltgun. Her Force senses tingling, the former Exarch of the Omega Prortectorate made her way across the wasteland. As far as tourism spots went, she could certainly have picked better, but she felt like she had to see this place for herself. At least the heat was less oppressive than on Gehenna, home world of the Bando Gora. Hopefully she would not have to tear down a mountain again, she reflected as she moved past the dunes.

Reaching into the pocket of her leather duster, which dramatically billowed behind her in the wind, she pulled a cigarette out from her packet and lighting it to take a deep drag. So much for quitting...well, in all fairness she had gone for a long time without one, so she ought to get points for effort!

Far off in a unnamed batch of Korriban desert, a lone fight landed among the whirling dunes. Stepping out of the metal bowls of the fighter a white-haired golden eyed dathomirian. This dathomiri with a androgynous feature strolled out onto the deserts clad in a dark purple cloak and dark robes beneath with red embroidered flame like highlights. As the white-haired flapped about in the wind, they reveal the all seeing eye tattoo in the middle of the forehead. This dathomiri was Aros Varr, Sith Apprentice who survived the destruction of the old Sith Empire. As Aros' golden eyes surveyed the ruins in the distance, a single large tomb caught Aros' malevolent attention. A smirk cut across the lips, "Tomb world indeed. What a dead landscape." Aros hissed. Covering one's body tightly with the cloak, Aros moved closer to the tomb and the surrounding ruins. The republic was everywhere. Aros ventured to use the ruins as cover.

Jedi had gathered around the tombs, venturing into the crypts and excavating large proportions of the tombs. Now the Sith Empire did the same, even the pure-bloods would desecrate their own ancestors tombs for treasures, but it just felt...out of place for a light-sider to waltz into a den of darkness. Aros narrowed the vision of his golden globes and focused on a temple ahead. He gritted his teeth and hissed at the gathere Jedi [you guys] at the front. Looking about Aros noticed a collapsed roof near the side over one of the great arch ways. "Ah...excellent." Aros smiled. Using the force, Aros leapt onto a column the jutted out of the orange and red dunes. Then leaping over to the edge of the sloping sides of the temple Aros slipped in. Landing in one of the side chambers to the main entrance he smacked onto the floor kicking up a large plume. With a wave of the hand, the force brushed aside the debris cloud. Aros turned about and slowly marched down the hallway..."Now to business." Aros hissed.

While Arors munched on his first paltry meal in days, sitting upon the stone pile he had spied his prey from, something stirred his animal attention span. Immediately it felt like a threat and his hand pawed at his inert lightsaber. His eyes searched the red landscape, while his heart thumped to an anomaly he must have missed while in the trance of hunger.

"Jedi, damn it!" That's when he saw the xeno, he stopped mid munch and didn't move. He didn't know what to do. He knew form what he felt that this was but a faint presence, and certainly no Master. What Jedi in his right mind would bring his little padawan to a world as toxic, corruptible, and dangerous as the ancient homeworld of the darkest race ever recorded? It astounded him. He quickly gulped down what was left of the ration he held in his hand, and hopped down. This Padawan would be missed, unlike the soldiers. This would be a more difficult kill. Running was an option. He decided to let the padawan decided, as he was sure that if Jedi were what he had been told, then he would not draw his blade. He hopped for once his masters were correct, he had no intention of killing this padawan, but if it was the spawn of some righteous crusading war machine, he would be left with no other option but to destroy it.

He had just eaten after all.

He held the hilt of his blade as he walked his black armored body towards him, glaring in his direction. Perhaps he could ward him away with intimidation.

Whilst the Sith were doing…something…and sneering malevolently, Phylis was trying to prevent getting blinded by the sandy wind.
“Stupid sand!” she complained, spitting out some of it which had gotten into her mouth. “I hate sand. It’s coarse and irritating and it gets everywhere,” she said, unconsciously parroting a long dead Jedi-turned-Sith.

Peering around, she looked to see if anyone had recognised her landing.

"I like beaches. Just some pretty girls and me alone on them," a voice that should be very familiar to Phylis spoke as Siobhan emerged from the thick cloud of sand being thrown up, telekinesis brushing it aside.

"Guess I shouldn't be surprised to see you here. Securing 'dangerous artefacts that would be devastating in the wrong hands' for the Holy Republic of the Jedi Nation or whatever you call yourselves these days? You do know that all these stories about golem guardians, lava pits and treasures marked on a map with an X are just stories?" She was totally deliberately parodying Phylis, who happened to be the only Jedi Master she liked. From what she had heard she was on the council now, and the Jedi's crusading ambitions had just been repulsed at O'reen.

Siobhan...was not sure what to think regarding that. But she did not feel upset about it either, no longer looking upon the Jedi as allies. She honestly missed Roche. Or the Bando Gora. Things had been simple then! Kill the bad guys, take their loot, go home and, ahem, have debriefings. If war had broken out in earnest and the Fringe had counterattacked...she would not have appeared to fight on the Republic's side.

Askrut stood, approaching the ridge where he could see squad 5's last known position. Sure enough, a man stood over their bodies like his vision. And yet, he seemed...... worried. Not fearsome. Reaching out to the man's mind, he spoke "Why did they have to die?" It was a simple question, one that would tell Askrut if he should move closer. So much could be done, so much more could be saved, and the Bothan was wondering why a squad of probably galacticly insignificant soldiers had to die. But he asked for a deeper reason. Every man had someone who cared about them. A wife, a child, a fiancé, a friend, a father, a mother, a sergeant, someone. And the pain of one left behind is more than any sentient being deserved to bear.

"You'll find me at the Vornskr Command Center - the site of the old throneroom. Be warned though - Squad 5 has just been reported missing. Could be a comms malfunction, we've had some interference due to the lay of the land, but it could be something more. Not every Sith got offworld.

Oh, and we're glad you're onworld, Councillor." came Carn's reply through the commslink to Phylis.

With that done, he set about barking orders and commands to the soldiers and Jedi near to him - firstly, there would be an armed patrol sent out in a dropship to Squad Five's last known location. If there had been an attack, they needed to know so that they could search the local area for the culprit.

Secondly, preparations for Phylis' arrival were to be completed. Another dropship was sent to Outpost Liberty with a skeleton crew of a pilot and two gunners. Their task was to bring Phylis and whoever she had brought with her to the VCC, so that they could finally get to work safely.

And finally? Well. Finally Carn sat back down in the throne. It was simply a waiting game now, to see what the fate of S5 was, and to finally see Phylis in her element.

Darin's eyes glanced over each wall of the temple, his hands folded in either sleeve of his robings. Troopers and other Republic agents and contractors worked, some clearing rubble, and some examining for traps. Darin felt the dark sided nexus within the planet, but with the humiliating defeat, it had waned with the presence of so many-light sided nature, namely, the Jedi Master he was approaching. While the dark side was a temptation, perseverance and a strong willpower was all it took to repel the darkness. Meditation later would be a great joy to confront these negative emotions that he felt trickling into his mind. His hands ran over a pair of paintings and pictures along the wall, engravings of the Sith's early conquest. Curiosity was a negative trait of Jedi, it was dangerous. He was moreso intrigued than anything. Darin ran his hands along the wall until he reached the throne room, and saw Master Carn sitting upon the throne. He blinked for a few times, suppressing a frown. He blinked for a few moments, before standing before him, and he stood there for nearly a minute, before speaking.

"Master, are you sure you should be sitting on that throne? Forgive my abruptness, but I feel as though it may be gloating or even condescending to our fallen foes."

"You'll find eating Tuk'ata is not very good for your health, and these soldiers weren't simply going to drop their rations to a sith, out of the kindness of their hearts." He sneered at the Jedi pup, as he spoke over the winds that were picking up, not a good enough mentalist to communicate with thoughts. How could they be so naive? Was this then all the Jedi had to offer? They conqueror his home, steal his temples, capture his source of food, and then blame the weaker survivor for doing what was necessary to survive? Not that the inhabitants of Korriban were the spitting images of saints, but the principle behind the audacity of this padawan's query was the same.

"And next time, before you go prowling in someone else's head, don't." He pointed the finger of the hand holding his hilt at the padawan. "Run along now, a sith was never here. Merely a hungry animal, and if you know what's good for you, you'll keep away from its snapping jaw." He ignited his blade to show him the deadliness of his metaphorical teeth. However, something in that moment felt amiss. He couldn't place what it was, but if felt like danger. It made him want to run, but he had to hold his ground and make his point clear enough for the bothan. His feet shuffled as he waited for him to leave or... something else.

"You're scared. Why?" He asked, vocalizing this time. His voice, unused at this sort of volume, broke as he talked. "What fear, what threat, do I pose? I'm just a weak Jedi, who came out all alone to see what happened to a squad that the cleanup gunship hadn't gotten to yet. That means that I can either outrun a gunship, or I came before they called in." Hopefully the Sith wouldn't worry about him. If Askrut turned his back, he'd be killed. But then again, if he continued on this way, he might die anyways.

"You are almost correct in your appraisal of why I'm sat here, Padawan, yet it is not to gloat nor to condescend. A Jedi sat upon the seat of the last Sith Emperor gives a message to the citizens of the Republic, and the wider Galaxy, that the Empire is gone, and that the Jedi Order will not allow it to return without a fight. It is, if you wish to see it as such, also a warning to any remaining Darksiders. While not the most orthodox of practices, it uses the Sith philosophy of Dun Moch against them - Which is a more effective tactic than drawing a lightsaber, considering how emotions plague those who allow themselves to fall to the dark side of the Force." Carn smiled at the student. He'd not seen Darin around before, and had no clue who he was outside of the robes he wore. However that wasn't the issue. " Yet the real question should be... What brings a Padawan to a tomb world? Should you not be immersed in study upon Coruscant, Tython, or Ossus?"

"Where one weak Jedi lies, a hundred strong ones shall follow. I have plenty reason to fear, and you forget I am your equal, I've not yet mastered any the arts of Sith; and curious that someone as low as you has come here? I would believe the Jedi smarter than risk their youngsters being fallen from this place. But as I said, I am merely an animal seeking to survive the cataclysm of his homeland." He said plainly. He wanted no more of this debate upon the philosophy of encountering an enemy. As the Sith express, the best encounter with an enemy is one where he or she is dead. He was not yet strong enough to pursue such a thing, and he was far to cautious to rouse the attention of the Republic and their lap dogs beyond a few worthless soldiers every so often, to risk his survival over a quarrel with one of their precious padawans.

"Did you say gunship?" He asked with only a hint of genuine worry. His eyes quickly scanned the bleak dull sky.

Phylis turned, hand on lightsabre, and scowled. "Oh, it's you," she said woodenly. "What brings the wall breaker in chief to Korriban. The battle here is over...mostly."
She...almost liked Siobhan, but as a traditionalist she was innately suspicious of anyone who played so fast and loose with morality and the Dark Side.
Before she could say any more, Master Dista's message reached her. She was in the wrong place, but at least a transport was coming for her.
"Thank you, Master. I'll be over there soon."
She cut the link and looked at Siobhan. "Did you want to come? I'm not sure why you're here, but keep your hands to yourself," she added in that stern teacher voice she used.

Considering the fact that Butcher of Metalorn was in charge of holocrons these days and had recently unleashed a typhoon in Ahto City, not to mention the general 'serenity through the sabre' ideology many Jedi had these days, Phylis was probably being just a bit hypocritical. It was rather difficult to discern what was 'light side' these days.

"Funny. I hear some Jedi have gotten quite good at breaking things these days while riding on the 'freedom train'. Beat me by far. Been to Manaan lately? What's left of Ahto City. Your Council is silent, so they must be fine with it and think it was a righteous and of the light," Siobhan responded harshly. She was not looking for a fight or an argument, though the tone was probably a deal less friendly and she did like Phylis - the only member of the Jedi order she actually liked - but equally she was not stroking the ego of sanctimonious Jedi.

"Oh, don't mind little 'ol, apostate me. Contrary to popular belief, heresy's not contagious."

Phylis did not respond with a condemnation. Worse, she looked troubled, even pained.
"The majority of the Council deemed it necessary to win the war," she said softly, then held up her hand to stop any more discussion on the topic. She had pushed to censure Matsu Ike for her actions and been rebuffed. There was nothing more she could do.

The transport soon weaved its way in to Outpost Liberty and landed. Phylis boarded the gunship with Siobhan and they took off towards Outpost Vornskyr.
"I've never been to Korriban before. Hmm...it's just how I expected it would be!" she said with a wistful smile.

Siobhan felt like forcing the issue, but fell silent as Phylis held up her hand, though she had many points she could bring up. Like the lack of any tactical necessity - the Sith had been retreating from Manaan, their empire had collapsed like a house of cards. She detested Fringe, but now she was not unhappy about the Republic being defeated at O'reen. She doubted the Holy Jedi Army would have stopped there otherwise.

"Ruins, wasteland, the call of the dead," Siobhan commented. Phylis might be able to find joy in the ruins they were about to explore, but she did not. Originally she had wanted to accompany her, but now her mood was changed. Phylis she liked, despite the scene just before, but she would not put up with a bunch of sanctimonious Jedi with a massive holier than thou complex.

"If against all odds there are still dark artefacts left here...I wouldn't be that certain about leaving them in your Council's hands. Darkness doesn't just come in black robes, red lightsabres and veiny skin. Self-righteousness in the first step to it," she said softly, with a knowing look on her face. She had been there herself, many times over.

"Wouldn't wanna get you into trouble for bringing an apostate along...or have to thrash one of your Councillors. Take care of yourself. Goodbye," she patted Phylis on the shoulder and leapt out of the the Gunship, while it was flying high above ground. First it seemed like she falling uncontrollably, but then her descent slowed as her mastery of telekinesis controlled her fall and she glided across the desert as she flew. Away from the Jedi, out of the no doubt fascinating tale that would take place in this thread.
