OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Kolene
  • Classification: Urban Center
  • Location: Socorro's Belt
  • Affiliation: Corellian Confederation
  • Population: Sparse
  • Demographics:
    Corellians/Corellian Survivors: 80%
  • Transient Workers: 20%

[*]Wealth: Medium
  • Kolene as a colony sees substantial wealth for its size due to the deposits of rare minerals and Corellian Bloodsteel as well as its aid from the Corellian Confederation.

[*]Stability: Medium
[*]Freedom & Oppression: Kolene, as part of the Corellian Confederation, technically had the same rights as any other colony or planet within the Confederation. However, its economic situation and location gave rise to insurgents, pirates, smugglers, and grave robbers. As such policing on the colony itself was harder than most places in the system. A group of insurgents calling themselves the "Forgotten Sons" has taken root in the area which made the area around Kolene unsafe to travel without escort for supply ships, and ore convoys. Officially they were considered nothing more than a group of pirates or a rowdy swoop gang, depending on the set of crimes they'd commited that day.
[*]Description: Kolene was a small mining and industrial colony established in Socorro's Belt by Corellian survivors in the aftermath of the Netherworld Galactic Event that saw the planet Lashtu and Corellia collide in the most violent way imaginable. Originally part of a Corellian continent the two asteroids that made up the colony were named after the only previously inhabited settlement found on the asteroid. As one of the larger asteroids in Socorro's Belt it was chosen for habitation and later turned into one of the only settlements that allowed mining of the asteroid. Its climate was heavily controlled within the biodome but the destroyed soil on the planet meant that they could not harvest their own crops without heavy use of farm domes which the asteroid simply did not have space for. As a result most of the foodstuffs obtained by Kolene were imported from Corellia or the other planets in the system which placed a heavy economic burden on those that lived on the asteroid. Despite the wealth influx from the mines and later the Corellian Confederation, much of those credits went to higher society members through their companies or political status and very little of that aid actually trickled down to the poor working class on Kolene.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Lashtu-Kolene Shipyards: A medium sized shipyard built into the side of Kolene. Provides work for transient workers, Corellians, and locals of Kolene.

Kolene Spaceport: The only official spaceport on the asteroid. It was connected to Kolene Mine and central to the asteroid.
Kolene Mine: It provided the bulk of wealth for the asteroid immediately following its establishment and is one of the only legal locations where Corellian Bloodsteel is mined and refined. The other valuable minerals found in Socorro's belt were also found here.
Kolene Lower Levels: Where most of the miners, port workers, and shipyard workers live. It was a very dirty place, ridden with crime, brothels, and cantinas where the workers could spend their credits and waste away. The spice trade here wasn't rampant but was easy to find.
Guardian Post: A small outpost built on a nearby asteroid where the local Corellian Guardians could rest their heads, refuel their ships, and swap information with other Guardians.

SECURITY: Low
Despite the rapid militarization of the Corellian System under the Corellian Confederation, Kolene and most of Socorro's Belt is left with relatively low support from the Corellian Defense Force. This is primarily because of the difficulty of patrolling an asteroid belt as large as Socorro's Belt, but also because much of it is considered sacred, haunted, or some combination of the two which left even the patrolled routes sparsely defended. Local volunteers known as the Guardians also patrol in their own vessels but their numbers are limited and ever dwindling. The city itself has a small garrison of CorSec Troopers along with a slightly understaffed CorSec police force. The CDF force deployed to Socorro's Belt was limited to a very small handful of Ire-Class Corvettes and a couple light cruisers.

[*]Bador-Type Light Cruisers

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Originally a small mining town on the world of Corellia, the events that would see Lashtu and Corellia collide in 844 ABY caused the entire chunk of planet that the town sat on flung into space. All of the residents of the original town perished on that terrible day, but in the aftermath of Corellia's destruction and subsequent rebuilding the land that had originally been Kolene was selected as one of the asteroids large enough to sustain life by ATC and the Corellian Council. It was also chosen due to its mineral rich deposits and its signifigance as one of the first asteroids to be found with the strange metal that would later be named Corellian Bloodsteel. The asteroid was also close enough to a large chunk of the ancient Lashtu shipyards and as a result the two were tethered together and treated as a single habitation sphere, making it one of the largest in Socoro's Belt and a hub of activity in the region.

The mining town flourished due to its shipyard and almost exclusive mining rights and Corellian refugees and survivors that made the asteroid their home began to settle. However due to its distance from Corellia and the various political and military upheavals in the area following the planet's destruction the people of Kolene were essentially left to their own devices and protected almost entirely by the limited and ever dwindling number of Corellian Guardians who were stretched thin defending Doaba ol'val tru capsules, stopping illegal and destructive pirate mines, and defending Kolene itself from opportunistic raiders and smugglers. Early pioneers to the world were able to flourish even during these times, but a distinct gap began to form between those that owned large portions of the mines and shipyard and other businesses, and those that actually worked the mines and shipyards. These "Belters" began forming coalitions with other small Socorro's Belt settlements and began attempting settling asteroids on their own causing issues within Socorro's Belt.

After the forming of the Corellian Confederation, Kolene began receiving a new aid package that included an influx of credits, a token defense force, and its own branch of CorSec police. Seen as a buyout for the wealthiest among them by the "Belters" these new resources constantly came under attack by these Corellian pirates.
