Overview

The Kiribian Systems Armed Forces (KSAF) is the military of the Kiribian System Union, responsible for the security of the Kiribian system, and Kiribian interests abroad. The military is divided into the branches of the Spacey (Space Navy), Mobile Infantry (Army), and the Office of National Intelligence (Intelligence). The whole military falls under the Department of Defense, headed by a civilian official known as the Secretary of Defense. Each military branch is also headed by civilian leadership (Secretary of Spacey, Secretary of the Mobile Infantry, and the Director of ONI). Each branch head answers to the Secretary of Defense, who in turn answers to the President of the Kiribian Systems Union, the Commander-in-Chief.

Spacey

The Space Navy (Spacey) handles virtually all space-related operations in the military, including cyber-security. The Spacey is also tasked with transporting MI troopers and ONI operatives, and providing long-range air and artillery support. Because of their nature of their duties, the Spacey is seen as the primary branch for force projection abroad.

The Spacey uses an air force style ranking system, and are generally referred to as "Crewmen". There are enlisted and officers, with no warrant positions existing. Officers are recruited exclusively from the enlisted ranks to foster empathy for enlisted conditions and ensure competency in leading them.

Mobile Infantry

The Mobile Infantry is responsible for all terrestrial operations. While they may receive air support from the Spacey, they have their own set of air assets like air speeders and snub fighters. They also serve as the marine contingent on all Spacey vessels, acting as guards and supporting Spacey led operations like colony assaults. Within the Mobile Infantry exists the elite Batavi, a special forces unit. The Batavi conduct a wide variety of special operations ranging from hostage rescue to direct action. The nature of the Batavi's mission usually has them working closely with ONI.

The MI uses an army style ranking system and every member in the MI is generally referred to as "Trooper". There are enlisted and officers, with no warrant positions existing. Officers are recruited exclusively from the enlisted ranks to foster empathy for enlisted conditions and ensure competency in leading them.

ONI

The Office of National Intelligence exists as the primary intelligence gathering organization of the military, and the entire Kiribian government when it comes to external affairs. Along with espionage, ONI also heads up the bulk of clandestine operations in the military. While the Spacey and Mobile Infantry are organized in a standard naval and army formation respectively, ONI operates in a loose decentralized cell structure, mixing and matching operatives as needed to carry out tasks. Under these operatives exists small army of contracted agents that actually take care of most of the (dangerous) legwork, while operatives themselves act as handlers. In this way, when things go awry, ONI operatives are allowed a large degree of plausible deniability.

ONI has no formal ranking system but does have grades for ranking their operatives. Operatives/employees and agents/contractors of ONI are all referred to as "Agents".

Military Doctrine

Before the first shot is fired, Kiribians go to great lengths to study their enemies, going far beyond the realm of military capabilities to understand their entire culture in full. Then the enemy's relationship with other groups is also carefully analyzed to explore the possibility of playing one group off another. A favorite tactic of the Kiribians is to foster subversive elements within their enemies' ranks to cause fragmentation.

Kiribians favor mechanization and automation, having almost every member of the military cyberized to some degree. Frontline fighting is normally carried out by large groups of droids and biots, with personnel directing them in the background through a system of man-machine interfaces. This setup allows the Kiribian military to conduct precise maneuvers with a level or coordination that would be impossible with unmodified biologicals. The extensive use of droids and biots means that personnel are rarely placed in direct harm, saving the military from the burden of having to constantly retrain replacements with losses.

Hello and welcome to Codex!

I appreciate the work you’ve put into this and the army structure you’ve established. Sadly, it is not acceptable as a Codex unit submission in its current state.

You are subbing multiple branches of an entire planet’s defence forces, not an NPC unit. This section of the Codex is intended towards components of an army, not the army itself. You’re free to include the total number available, but they must break down to at least company level. How many soldiers, how many tanks, how many artillery pieces?

For infantry this would normally put unit strength at around 150. Availability is then the indicator on how many such units exists. A good example of what we’d expect to see would be the Batavi special forces unit you mention in this submission.

As it stands now, this would be better suited for a blog post or as an overview put up on a faction page. I would advise you to do that, and instead scale down and submit unit representations of the military branches mentioned here.

[member="Darth Pyrrhus"] is quite correct. The unit submissions are intended to be detailed company level diagnostics of a military force. It’s primarily designed for invasions and skirmishes so that the NPC troops used in those RPs are known and quantified by both sides.

So with that in mind I will archive this BUT feel free to resubmit unit submissions based on each of your army units. This does not count as a second chance.

Remember, you can state a maximum size, but your focus is the organisation of the up to 200 troops and dozen tanks in a company.
