Urtrak'Kmoor

Urtrak'Kmoor is the heart of Khul'Nixilus. It is here that great spires of Black Steel grow from the underground Netherworld portal, and it is here that countless slaves and serfs break it apart, melt it down, and fashion it into the war machines, weapons, and armor that fuel the native way of life. It is the only place on the planet with what one could consider 'law' apart from the 'might makes right' attitude on the rest of the planet. Killing is outlawed outside the arenas and violence is kept at a minimum, mostly just used to motivate the slaves. The city cannot fall to chaos, the process of mining and processing Black Steel being too complicated and steeped in ritual. Frequent interruptions of war and slaughter are commonplace around the planet but within Urtrak'Kmoor such interruptions would stop the flow of Black Steel and thus could end all life on the planet. The city and thus the planet is ruled over by whichever Kros (a kind of high chieftain/high priest) is the strongest and is capable of taking the city from the previous Kros. The great battles for the city take place within the great arenas scattered around the city, where each Kros and 2000 soldiers/vehicles of their choosing gather, whichever army left standing becomes the new ruler of Khul'Nixilus and the flow of Black Steel.

The ruling brutes do live a somewhat comfortable life, slaves serving them every day and tribute brought in from the other settlements across the planet mean that they no longer have to fight for food or troops and can instead relax. Their only real duty is to be the commanders when off-world expeditions travel from Khul'Nixilus to gather slaves, resources, food, and loot to help fuel the Khul'Nixilus 'economy' and to appease the creatures of the Netherworld they frequently make deals with.

Underneath Urtrak'Kmoor is a massive Netherworld rift called the World Eater, a gaping hole from which grows the spires of Black Steel. It is believed that the rift spills out either into or near Daemoni Ignius and its close proximity is what allows the denizens of Khul'Nixilus to commune with the higher Daemons and raid the Netherworld for lower daemons to help fuel their armies or to butcher and siphon their energy.

Blood Temples

The Blood Temples are the only sign of organized religion on Khul'Nixilus, all located within the tunnels and caverns under Urtrak'Kmoor. Every denizen of Khul'Nixilus makes a pilgrimage to the temples at least once in their lifetime to participate in the Daemon Hunts, Blood Rituals, and other Magik rituals used to appease the rulers of Daemoni Ignius. Many temples are small and dedicated to minor daemon entities but the largest and most prominent being the temple to the "Sinful One". The temple of the Sinful One is built directly over the World Eater (pictured above) and is the temple to conduct most of the major rituals and Daemon Hunts that occur.

Being the center of Khul'Nixilus culture, the Blood Temples are the only place completely devoid of non-ritualized violence. The priests that make their home within these caverns dedicate themselves to the preservation of Khul'Nixilus history and the magik arts developed over centuries by their orders. The Inner Sanctum of the temple to the Sinful One is one such place of preserved knowledge. Only the highest priests may enter this chamber to learn the dark secrets scrawled in glowing runes on floating rocks, the walls, and pillars.

The Blood Temples and their priests are split between three 'Cults', all apart of a single religion but each specializing in worshiping different beings and specializing in different magiks. The Blood Cult from which the temples derive their name is the largest and most dominant. They are the cult who lead the great Daemon hunts where great hunting parties are organized to be sent into the Netherworld to hunt the larger daemons to bring back and siphon their power to run the great machines of Urtrak'Kmoor and to feast upon their flesh. They also specialize in warfare and raiding, the two most popular pastimes on Khul'Nixilus. The Genesmith Cult specializes in genetic manipulation, breeding, and cybernetics. They seek to create the perfect soldier and are responsible for capturing and enslaving lesser daemons, often enhancing them with cybernetics to make them far deadlier than average. The Spire Cult is the smallest and most mysterious of the three, worshiping a mysterious unnamed entity they believe produces the Black Steel. Their rituals often include throwing slaves and criminals down into the World Eater or ritual sacrifice. They are considered the oldest cult, enshrined in the earliest histories of the city and its people.
