DESCRIPTION

Kethrannis is a sprawling urban center characterized by broad industrial districts, expansive shipyards, and relatively low-rise architecture. Its buildings are predominantly pale grey, reflecting the architectural style shared across Minrith, though their layouts and designs vary throughout the city. Unlike the towering skyline of Vaelkris, Kethrannis is more open and horizontally developed, with wide spaces dedicated to ship construction, vessel maintenance, and industrial operations.

The city serves as Minrith's primary center for starship construction and related systems, specializing in the production of civilian and military vessels, ship-mounted weaponry, and defensive shielding. Enormous surface shipyards and colossal enclosed assembly facilities occupy substantial areas, particularly around the city's outskirts. Dedicated facilities support the testing, maintenance, and refitting of vessels, while docks and logistics infrastructure connect Kethrannis's industries to the wider galaxy.

Despite its industrial importance, Kethrannis is not simply a collection of shipyards and manufacturing facilities. Residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, markets, and public spaces are integrated throughout the city, supporting its substantial civilian population. Workers, merchants, visiting crews, and off-world traders contribute to an active urban environment that extends beyond the shipbuilding industry.

Beyond the developed areas, Minrith's dense tropical jungle surrounds the city, creating a sharp contrast with its expansive industrial landscape. Kethrannis's open layout accommodates its large-scale operations while preserving space for civilian districts and the infrastructure necessary to support everyday life.

Zavik governs Kethrannis as one of the two cities under his authority on Minrith. He largely leaves its established industries, administration, and shipbuilding operations in the hands of those already familiar with their work, intervening when necessary rather than imposing unnecessary changes. As shipbuilding is not his personal specialty, he allows the city's existing expertise to guide its continued operation and development.

SECURITY

Security Rating: High

Security Assets:

Kethrannis maintains a strong security presence, combining the city's established Kharvaxi security forces with additional assets introduced by Zavik. His primary addition is the Watchers, specialized cyborgs designed specifically for security duties. They supplement existing personnel, providing additional protection throughout the city rather than replacing its native security forces.

Zavik has also expanded the city's sensor network, improving situational awareness and helping security personnel identify potential threats. These systems support public safety and the city's defense without imposing excessive surveillance or unnecessarily restricting the daily lives of residents.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Ship Docks

The Ship Docks serve as major berthing facilities for vessels arriving at and departing from Kethrannis. They accommodate a variety of ships, including commercial freighters, civilian transports, exploration vessels, and military craft. The docks provide space for vessels to berth, load and unload cargo, take on supplies, and prepare for their next journey.

As an important connection between Kethrannis and the wider galaxy, the docks support both the city's commercial activity and its shipbuilding industry. Their facilities handle the steady movement of visiting vessels and newly completed ships, making them an essential part of the city's operations.

Starship Construction Complex

The Starship Construction Complex is the centerpiece of Kethrannis's shipbuilding industry. It consists of extensive surface shipyards and enormous enclosed assembly facilities where vessels are constructed from the ground up. These facilities accommodate a wide range of projects, from civilian transports and commercial freighters to patrol craft, escorts, and larger military vessels.

The complex is a major contributor to Minrith's economy, supplying ships to buyers throughout the wider galaxy. Its facilities are integrated into the surrounding industrial landscape, with large construction areas concentrated toward the city's outskirts while residential districts, businesses, and public spaces occupy other parts of the urban center.

Flight Test Sector

The Flight Test Sector is a designated area where newly constructed and modified vessels undergo trials before entering regular service. Test crews evaluate a ship's handling, maneuverability, propulsion, navigation, and overall performance under a range of controlled conditions. These trials help identify problems and verify that a vessel performs as intended.

The sector supports both civilian and military shipbuilding, allowing vessels designed for different roles to be evaluated according to their intended capabilities. Its separation from the city's busiest civilian districts provides space for testing and maneuvering without unnecessarily disrupting ordinary urban life.

Starship Weapons and Shielding Test Zone

The Starship Weapons and Shielding Test Zone is dedicated to evaluating the offensive and defensive systems installed on Kethrannis-built vessels. Ship-mounted weapons undergo controlled firing trials to assess their performance and reliability, while shielding systems are tested to determine how effectively they protect a vessel against different forms of attack and impact.

Given the nature of these trials, the zone is situated away from the city's main residential and commercial districts. Its facilities allow engineers and testing crews to evaluate new designs, identify weaknesses, and verify that weapons and defensive systems function as intended before being approved for operational use.

Starship Maintenance and Refitting Yards

The Starship Maintenance and Refitting Yards handle repairs, overhauls, and upgrades for vessels that have already entered service. Ships arriving with damaged components or worn systems can undergo maintenance, while others may receive updated equipment or modifications suited to changing operational needs. The yards accommodate both civilian and military vessels, supporting the continued use of ships long after their initial construction.

These facilities extend Kethrannis's role beyond manufacturing new vessels, making the city a destination for ship operators seeking repairs or improvements. Their work helps keep visiting fleets operational while providing another important service to the wider galactic shipping and transportation industries.

Civilian and Commercial District

The Civilian and Commercial District encompasses the shops, markets, restaurants, residences, and businesses that support everyday life in Kethrannis. Although the city's identity is closely tied to starship construction and related industries, its population requires more than industrial facilities. The district provides places for residents to live, work, shop, socialize, and access ordinary services.

The district also serves visiting ship crews, merchants, engineers, and off-world traders who travel to Kethrannis for business. Its commercial activity benefits from the city's busy shipyards and docks, giving local businesses a steady connection to both Minrith's population and the wider galaxy.

Industrial Logistics Terminal

The Industrial Logistics Terminal coordinates the movement of materials, components, and finished products throughout Kethrannis's industrial sector. Incoming shipments supply the city's shipyards and associated facilities, while completed vessels and manufactured goods are prepared for onward transport. Its operations help coordinate the flow of cargo between production sites, storage areas, the ship docks, and connections to the wider galactic trade network.

The terminal is an important part of the city's industrial infrastructure, helping ensure that materials reach the facilities that need them and that finished products can be distributed efficiently. By supporting the movement of goods between Kethrannis's industries and external buyers, it contributes to the city's continued productivity and economic importance.

Public Transit Hub

Kethrannis is connected to Minrith's other major cities by an underground rail network, allowing residents, workers, and visitors to travel between urban centers without having to cross the dense jungle on the surface. These rail lines form the foundation of the moon's intercity transportation system, connecting its major population centers while leaving the wilderness between them largely undisturbed.

Within Kethrannis, an above-ground tram network and other public transport vehicles carry passengers throughout the city's districts. Residents can also travel using their own vehicles or on foot, with the city's transportation infrastructure accommodating all three options. Together, these systems support everyday commuting, commerce, and movement across Kethrannis while keeping the city connected to the rest of Minrith.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Kethrannis was established by the Kharvaxi long before Zavik assumed control of the city. Over time, it developed into Minrith's primary center for starship construction, specializing in the production of civilian and military vessels, cargo ships, transport ships, ship-mounted weapons, and shielding systems. Its industries grew alongside the Kharvaxi's technological advancement and increasing involvement in trade with the wider galaxy.

Although Kethrannis was not the center of Minrith's major economic boom, its shipbuilding industry played a significant role in expanding the moon's commercial reach. While other cities contributed technological goods and specialized products, Kethrannis allowed Minrith to offer an entirely different range of exports. Its ability to produce vessels and their associated systems opened additional opportunities for trade, attracting buyers whose needs extended beyond the technologies available elsewhere on the moon.

Kethrannis also became essential to Minrith's own infrastructure and defense. Its shipyards produce vessels for the moon's civilian population, commercial operations, and military forces. Many Kharvaxi obtain their ships through Kethrannis's shipbuilding industry, though some choose to purchase vessels from off-world markets instead. This domestic production allows Minrith to maintain much of its own fleet without relying entirely on external suppliers.

As the city expanded, its shipyards, docks, testing facilities, and supporting infrastructure developed to accommodate increasingly varied demands. Facilities for maintenance, refitting, and system testing further strengthened Kethrannis's position, allowing it to support vessels throughout their operational lives rather than focusing solely on new construction. Its industries became an important part of Minrith's continued trade and its ability to maintain an independent transportation and defense capability.

Following his agreement with Queen Eshvara, Zavik assumed governance of Kethrannis as one of the two cities placed under his authority. He largely preserved the city's established industries and administrative systems, allowing its shipbuilding operations to continue under the direction of those familiar with their work. As starship construction and related technologies were not his personal specialty, he generally avoided unnecessary interference, intervening when circumstances required it.

Kethrannis continues to serve as Minrith's principal shipbuilding center, supplying vessels and associated systems to the moon and buyers throughout the wider galaxy. Its contribution to Minrith's prosperity differs from Vaelkris's, but remains significant: where Vaelkris helped establish the foundation of the Kharvaxi economic boom, Kethrannis broadened the moon's industrial capabilities and strengthened its capacity for trade, transportation, and defense.
