STRENGTHS
- Using a lot of off the shelf and interchangeable parts, the Keres is cheap and easy to maintain.
- The point defense turrets can disperse large clouds of laser disrupting dampener aerosol.
- The corvette can easily outrun it own protective clouds and can’t return fire through them.
- Sparse internal layout prioritizes function over comfort.
Mercenary Arm’s first capital ship, the Keres Corvette is an easy to command ship with forgiving fields of fire, but suffers from minimal rear coverage to its rear where only one dual point defense turret sits in the midst of the engine cluster. For offense, the corvette carries four dual turbolaser turrets, with each turret supporting an additional two ion cannons that let the Keres disable a target rather than kill.
The raised bridge section gives a commander an excellent view of the battle space while also housing technical sections and an officer ready room, keeping them close to the action. The rest of the ship is rather bare bones and lacking creature comforts to fit a large cargo deck and room for a small troop compliment. Air locks on either side of the ship also serve as attachment points for externally carried fighters, as well as the launching points for deployment harpoons. Once attached to an enemy vessel, they cut through the hull, allowing the Keres’s troops to board or begin moving supplies between ships. It's this feature, more than any other, that Mercenary Arms’ detractors decry the Keres as a purpose built pirate ship. And given the ship’s popularity within those groups, it's not an allegation that’ll be forgotten any time soon. Regardless, it remains a popular choice for credit conscious organizations looking for options in the corvette range.
