- Splinter
- This kind of metal is good for use in fragmentation projectiles or ordinance that wants to create shrapnel.
- Cortosis Traces
- Kelakite is infused with trace amounts of cortosis, granting the substance increased hardness and slight resistance to energy based weapons and lightsabers
- Shock Absorber
- Kelakite will shatter and fragment, very effectively reducing impact force due to the alloy's high hardness and and compressive strength. Kinetic weapons are especially affected by this property, but Kelakite is also mantains its characteristics well against energy weapons, electricity, and even lightsabers due to the materials involved in Kelakite's synthesis
- Specialist
- Kelakite is a very hard, brittle alloy. It's somewhat specialized on its own, only able to break free of its niches through being alloyed with other materials
- To The Wind
- Kelakite armor is repair intensive. Because it's designed to protect things by breaking, Kelakite compontents need to be repaired and replaced often if they take damage
Treatech's search for a substance that was sufficiently hard, but also brittle was caused by the design of the MAC-818 Super Mass Driver. Treatech sought a substance from which to craft ballistic caps for the large shells that the MAC-818 fired. They eventually settled on Tricopper, but engineers expressed distaste with having to settle for a metal that was not exactly what they had in mind, so they created their own. A combination of a number of metals, Kelakite was crafted to be used as armor inserts, ammunition components, and even armor plating for vehicles in some cases. It was hard and brittle, making it excellent for use in explosives, but also for capping kinetic shot to maintain ballistic characteristics. The weight of the metal was considered a great success, as it was not any heavier than counterparts, but performed well in stress tests against kinetic weapons, energy weapons, and electricity. By shattering upon impact, Kelakite absorbs impact into itself to reduce energy transferred to whatever is behind it.
