Katarine Ryiah is a Jedi Master whose life was shaped in the shadow of the Empire. Born in the Aviprine region of Ansion as the youngest of twins, her childhood was stolen when a Dark Jedi targeted her and her brother, Daxium, believing them to be the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy. Their parents were murdered during the abduction, and the twins fell into darkness, until fate intervened. A Jedi survivor of Order 66 discovered Katarine, rescuing her from her captors and recognizing the girl's raw Force sensitivity. With the Order broken, Katarine was trained as a bokken Jedi; a child of the lost tradition raised outside the Temple walls.
Through the long years of Imperial rule, Katarine hardened herself in the crucible of resistance. She fought for freedom in the shadows and, when the time came, joined the Rebel Alliance, helping to restore hope and democracy to a galaxy enslaved.
When the Empire finally fell, Katarine turned her focus inward, serving as a Jedi Investigator. She tracked down Imperial war criminals, exposed corruption, and fought the surge of lawlessness that flourished in the Empire's wake. In these years she also found love, marrying a pirate-turned-Rebel whose roguish heart matched her fire. But the marriage ended in tragedy, and grief hollowed her resolve.
Unable to bear the weight of loss, Katarine spiraled into self-destruction. A rare blood mutation left her uniquely vulnerable to the dark side, weakening her like kryptonite in its presence. She dulled her pain through substance abuse and fell into the orbit of a Dark Jedi on Zeltros. Her judgment clouded, her actions reckless, Katarine's choices eventually led to the death of a young Force-sensitive child which was a failure she could never forgive.
In the aftermath, she exiled herself to a secret underwater prison on Naboo. There, in an act of self-imposed penance, she sealed herself in carbonite, determined that her broken heart and shadowed choices would never again endanger the galaxy.
Centuries passed. Katarine remained entombed until a cataclysm shattered the prison and set her free. Her carbonite chamber drifted into ruin until it was uncovered in the depths of Naboo. Revived in Theed's General Hospital, Katarine endured years of debilitating hibernation sickness. Yet she survived.
Now, returned to a galaxy far, far away, she emerges from the fog of her mistakes, and a Jedi scarred by loss, yet tempered by survival. Her story is one of redemption yet unwritten, as she steps once more into the Force's endless current.
