OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Created to provide a sentient rodent species that was sentient without being rotund or dwarf-like for myself and other players to use. The species could be turned into a faction if I can garner enough interest, otherwise it should be fun to play out the interactions between the world and whomever visits it, or the interactions between the Kaalonians throughout the galaxy.

They are a hostile species and follow the concept of kill first and investigate later.

  • Disease carries both of Kaalonian born pathogens and whatever they pick up throughout the galaxy.
Weaknesses:
  • Greedy and selfish. Internal conflict will prevent a unified planetary force.
  • The general masses are easily manipulated with the value of certain goods they are unfamiliar with.
  • Prefer to use a barter system or physical metals or gems rather than credits.
  • Unclean biology, fur is typically ridden with pests giving off a potent and unpleasant aroma and Kaalonians posses a potent musk for scenting.
  • Disease carries through their fur and saliva.
  • Untrustworthy. They are always looking out for themselves and will turn on their allies if they sense a moment of weakness.
  • Strength in numbers, weakness alone. Will often flee if odds are stacked against and no companions.
CULTURE [WIP]
  • Diet: Omnivore: Generalist species that will adapt to eat whatever biological flora and fauna is available. Cannibalism is common.
  • Communication: Kaalonian Tongue consisting of many guttural sounds and squeaks. Statistically insignificant portion knowing Huttese and Common.
  • Technology level: Feudal technology level. Due to their contact with off-world sentients the Kaalonians are beginning to have weapons and other technology from the Galactic Community introduced into their society. This is giving rise to weaponry more advanced than the Feudal level and advancing warfare while much of their social technology continues to linger as it is not a priority for the warlords vying for power to trade for non-wartime material.
  • Religion/Beliefs: Ancient King Worship. Worship of the King of Kaalonia as a living deity. Each Ancient King is given the greatest care to keep their lifespan for as long as possible before their death and replacement by another nominated Ancient King. The Kaalonians build great temples though do not hold mass-like services. The temples are their tribute to the Ancient King along with their conquests. Greed and selfishness are promoted by the Ancient King and the more a rat is able to hoard for himself the more he is able to pay the Ancient King in their death for a more comfortable afterlife.
  • General behavior: [ Describe general behaviors such as: family life, values, how they raise their young, how they find mates, how they interact with the world and other species around them. Do they hunt? Do they build? Are they inventors? Are they explorers? Are they nocturnal or diurnal? Do they attend schools? Etc, etc. ] Kaalonian society is dedicated to increasing their own standing among themselves and to appease the Ancient King. This leads to extensive infighting as any perceived weakness is acted upon for a Kaalonian to rise in station or to take the goods of another. A Kaalonian that is working for or with someone is there only to improve themselves and not their partner or superior.
There is distrust to outsides even greater than among their own people. As not-worshipers of the Ancient King most Kaalonians do not understand what drives non-Kaalonians. Not only does that make them non-believes to those more religiously inclined Kaalonians but as a xenophobic species they view non-Kaalonians with disgust. Cleanliness an abomination as they cannot know who their counterpart is just by sense of smell or sight.

Reproduction for the Kaalonians is strictly controlled. All females are kept in breeding harems by the Ancient King and the various warlords. Females are separated at birth from the male litters to ensure none are lost to the standard difficulties males must fight through to reach adulthood. Breeding rights are reserved for the Ancient King, the Warlords and underlings that appease their superiors. Prominent warriors will be bred to pass on their genes to control the future warrior population. However weak or sickly warlords have caused entire tribes to vanish as they hoard their harems and produce sickly offspring that doom their future warriors.

The young remain close to their mothers for two months where they grow

HISTORICAL INFORMATION [WIP]
[background=#232323]The Kaalonians have been isolated from the galactic community for as long as they have existed. Their planet surveyed with little of note discovered by surface scans. A few pirates and other criminal entities have landed on the world, only to disappear into the depths of the underground caverns where they were going to stash their treasures. Their ships slowly left to decay in the state they were in. Their planet, Kaalonia was entirely isolated until the last hundred or so years when a Hutt clan by the name of Vinsidj discovered it. Their family brought with them mercenaries and frightening new weaponry, descending from the heavens upon the Kaalonians that had observed. The initial landing was without event as the Kaalonians were predominantly a subterranean people. This let the Vinsidj Hutts to being able to set up prefabricated structures and operate along the surface for a short time, assuming that the natives were feral as no signs of technology had been spotted.[/background]

It was not until the Hutts encountered a few of the Kaalonians with precious gems in their possession and shoddy articles of clothing that trouble started to arise. The Hutts weren't concerned with the intelligence level of the people aside from the possibility that they could be used for slave labor, the interest rested in obtaining the precious materials that had been discovered. Once mining equipment appeared and their subterranean homes started to shake that the Kaalonians became hostile with the surface dwellers. Nightly raids were carried out and while they were unsuccessful in destroying anything of great value, the attrition started to wear on the guards that the Hutts posted.

The Vinsidj Hutts brought in more mercenaries and heavier weaponry, including armored vehicles, and the Kaalonians were viciously repelled in the next raid. This lead to an increase in the size of the attacking party and while that next battle also ended in slaughter, it gave the Kaalonians the first sight of the flying devices that the surface dwellers had brought. The surface dwellers became a hot topic in the Petty Kingdoms of Kaalonia as the Kaalonians were uncertain if they were Gods that the Ancient King hadn't told them about, or demons set upon them to destroy their homes.

The decision was made for the Kaalonians when the Ancient King summoned a gathering to take many of the Priests, Princes, and himself to go and see these surface dwellers. It led to the largest military force ever to be gathered by the Kaalonians who numbered in the millions and poured out of their lairs during the night and into positions. Stone and wood structures of vast size were constructed overnight, leaving the Hutt colony surrounded by earthworks. As the sun rose, the Kaalonians tunneled up from beneath these earthworks and created a shield wall that surrounded the Hutts. Siege towers were pushed through gates that had appeared over night, catapults were in position and loaded with ammunition ranging from rocks, pots filled with flammable material, and dead bodies of both surface dwellers and Kaalonians.

The battle was not to pass as the Ancient King and his entourage of Princes and Priests were met and negotiations started between the natives and the surface dwellers. It became clear to the Ancient King and his entourage that these beings were not divine, nor demonic, but creatures of flesh and blood like themselves that had appeared from the heavens. These negotiations led to exchanges in technology for the precious materials, off world doctors and teachers being brought in, and the uplifting of many of the Petty Kingdoms.

Today many Kaalonians are competent in Huttese, some in Galactic Standard, and some in other languages depending on the ambassadors to their people. Technology isn't a frightening thing so much as something to be understood and used against one another, though there are still Petty Kingdoms that for various reasons resist against the implementation of technology.
