The Lion of Sacorria
"Damage to the hull, captain is incapacitated! Shields are at twenty percent!"
Lander Stalwart stood in a bit of a daze for a second. He was on the bridge of a refugee escort shuttle, evacuating Coruscant. He had come to protect his people. Now he was leaving behind fire and brimstone. There were roughly one thousand civilians on board. That thought brought him back into reality.
"We're out of the planet's atmosphere, jump to hyperspace!" Lander ordered, his military background kicking in.
"Senator, we may hit a mass shadow," one of the pilots stated. "If there's even one starfighter-"
"The alternative is sitting around and waiting to be blown to bits!" he snapped back. "We have a thousand souls on board, we need to have made that jump yesterday!"
The ship rattled, red lights blaring overhead. The sparks and smoke filling the command deck of the ship made their decision pretty clear. For a moment, all Lander could hear was a faint ringing in his ears. Then light flashed across his eyes. The noise of the space battle was replaced with streaks of blue.
Dozens of Galactic Alliance vessels shuttling civilians had begun to appear in the space of Osadia, a forested planet that sat between the Deep Core and the Inner Rim. It was the only planet that had open space, more forested wilderness than not, to set vessels down to begin the process of assessing injuries and taking count of their losses. After a moment of silence, communication with the rest of the Alliance was reestablished. Everything had been left to the Galactic Empire, risen from Ashes in their own space. With what little resources they had, the crews of the evacuation vessels began to set up hospitals and convert ship space into shelters. As the crew aboard landed their transport and hastily scrambled to stabilize the ship, Lander made his way through out from the bridge. How bizarre to be here, on the other side of the turmoil left by war. For all the hell that came with sitting under artillery fire, nothing ever really prepared him for what ordinary people experience. He had seen this before, of course, but it never got easier.
At least he could rest easy that the Corellian Sector lay just beyond the reaches of the Galactic Empire for now. Surely it would have fangs at it's throat soon, but not yet. The senator made his way through the confused mass of people and personally opened the blast doors himself. They all sort of shuffled out, like animals placed into an unfamiliar environment. Fortunately what little GADF personnel was present quickly began attending to their needs.
Lander stepped out into the grass of the clearing they had landed in and made his way out to a stone to perch himself on. He sat down, let out an exhale, and took it all in. Not the Maw, Mandalorian Enclave, Sith Order, Dark Empire... Nothing had ever shaken Coruscant to it's knees. Now the Core was lost.
"Force have mercy on us all..."
This was either the beginning of the end of a road to victory marched through hell.
