  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins:
  • Average Lifespan: 300 Years
  • Estimated Population: Inter-Planetary
  • Description: Large and monsterous looking, with thick hides that alter coloration depending on both region and planet. With crystals that form in the harder carapace of their hides from using the force. With four legs, large tails and massive necks that stretch and give them their massive size. The foilage and frills that appear on their bodies different by regions on the worlds that they are from snow to plains to jungles or forests.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average Height of Adults: 10m
  • Average Length of Adults: 100m (nose to tail tip)
  • Skin color: Blues, greens, violet shades
  • Hair color: N/A
  • Distinctions:
    • Massive Size
    • Crystal Growths
    • Different fleshy fins by region
  • Races: There are three variations of the species in total with different fleshy fins on their body to denote regions on the planet. The southern most have fleshy growths like a mane around their necks and generally appear slightly smaller then the others. The northern regions host a fleshy hood with two fins coming from the tops of their heads down their necks and the ones near the equator have longer rigid ones they can move out that look like trees.
  • Force Sensitivity: High
Strengths:
  • Massive Size: Their large size allows for a natural defense and power compared to most other species. Their powerful muscles can break walls and trample most units while their hides can prevent dagger and blaster shots from lite turbolasers and hypervelocity cannons. Lightsabers have slightly high resistance.
  • Survival: Coming from a once lush world that has become desolate in places the Jotun have overtime developed heightened instincts to find food and water. The techniques are a manifestation of the force sense skills and is a natural trait.
  • FOrce Crystals: THe crystals that form on their bodies can be harvested to create force crystals for lightsabers and equipment.
Weaknesses:
  • Massive Size: Due to their size and lack of hands they are unable to wear most armor or use equipment common in the galaxy. They are not able to use the weapons to defend themselves relying on their massive size to intimidate to avoid conflict.
  • Hunted: With their semi special bone growths they have been hunted. It is hard to take them down but skilled hunters can and know how to do it. Cutting the crystal from their bones like ivory hunters leaving the bodies instead of using them once they had their prizes.
  • Force Nullification: THe highly force sensitive race uses the force to move their massive sizes. Without it their size can become almost immovable with the sheer mass of their own bodies.
CULTURE
  • Diet: They are omnivorous in reality but usually eat herbs and veggies from trees living in small herds for protection and with their young. Large amount of anything poisonous can kill them as small doses of anything will not work with their bodies.
  • Communication: Verbal
  • Technology level: Galactic Standard
  • Religion/Beliefs:
    • A strange species that has developed on the ancient world of Ruusan. Formerly they lived in the forests scattered throughout and visited many of the locations in a migration pattern but as the forests turned to deserts they became more skilled in finding resources and following their instincts. As a species they are not able to create the technological advancements of many and make cities so they stay in herds but visit cities. Annually coming to see the people and if they can help out with moving things.

In their lives they work with others able to take on the part of a beast of burden since they are able to take the stress and punishment. The reward of a place that is safe moderately or has food, water resources is often good enough to the gentle natures of the Jotun. They do not create art but have had art done of them sometimes stylized and sometimes very realistic to a point it looks scary but overall they have found it amusing.

As they grow older within the clan though the ones who cannot defend themselves start heading towards an ancient graveyard where they have been heading to be buried for tens of thousands of years. Most outsiders do not know the location but it isn't something out of the realm of possibility to find from orbit. There they wait to die and join their ancestors adding their bones to the great valley. As the old go off to die and new young are born the herd continues to thrive for the most part.

The young when they are born are taught what they need to know and how to protect themselves from predators by going to the center of the herd with the adults around them. Stragglers usually getting picked off and are taught the harsh lesson that human's or other creatures can be friendly but are also dangerous hunters who seek to kill for sport. Their lessons about the mystical heroes like the jedi coming to their world and stopping dangerous beings in a bedtime story.

As is the dangerous consequences that came from it like the creation of the sacred valley of the jedi where both sides of the force are drawn to. The force being more a mystical ideal then something that they could see or touch but they believe in its existence.
  • General behavior:
    • With Each Other: They are family oriented joining together and generally grazing where they can find food and water for a time and then moving on. The young children are cared for and taught how to find water or where migration paths go for them. When they meet their cousins from the other regions of the planet it is generally a peaceful meeting as they know how to share resources or work to find more. Instincts honed for survival mixed with a strong sense of community. The eldest of them are respected and when they are near death they make the long walk towards the great valley. A star shaped region in the canyons where the Jotun have died for centuries. They are shown much respect going forward to their deaths.

With Outsiders: They are kind and friendly to a point, it is fine to work with people and they will not harm those who do are not trying to hurt them but they are not always able to do things. They work on things with the ones in cities and outposts to help for supplies like food they can eat or news about anything that might be helping on the planet. They won't go out of their way to run into people but they realize that seeing creatures like themselves might draw interest or they might want to see them up close. When they encounter beings in the deserts they can offer to help them though or carry them if they are injured to safety.

With Hunters: They are hit and miss, sometimes if they are coming after the herds they can trample them if they get in close but hunters shooting them will still kill them. Tranqs that hunters can use on them are generally deadly to other species as it is designed for their sizes. They do not like hunters and will if they pick up the sight or scent of them they will run to protect themselves and their young. The graveyards of the elders they have are worked to be protected.

With the Force: Force users within their species is not unheard of. Most can use the force unknowingly with their senses but the rare ones who can use it beyond such minor things are generally regarded as sages of great wisdom. The force users they have met have been just as interesting coloring their ideas of the mystical energy field. From the good it can do to save people to the evils and harm it can do. THe Jotun have a great respect for life and the living force.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
One of the more rare species on the world of Ruusan in more recent times. With the hunting of them down by others seeking to use their crystalline growths to sell off for credits. THey were hunted to near extinction across the plenty until intervening jedi came and saved the species after an appeal in the Galactic senate. That was a couple thousand years before the battle of Ruusan that saw a large number of them killed in an explosion.

As they were able to settle into a new life spreading out over the world and into smaller clans instead of large herds that would roam across the world itself. They were doing it to also lessen the danger of being hunted down if they could hide in other sections across the planet. Meeting some of the people who came there and giving them help where they could for many of the smaller outposts.

With the danger presented when beings were coming to the world searching for the valley of the jedi they could lead them around to it if they were not evil. Being unable to tell outright aside from usually getting threatened by them asking for them to take them to the valley. Those ones they didn't and could just lead around into the desert to get distracted. Their small works with the Republic eventually came to the end as they were able to repopulate.

Then as more time passed they found dangerous times ahead when soldiers came to the world securing the valley and turning any of them away from it under threat of death. While the world seemed to have been lost by many there were still others who came around hunting on the planet. As the soldiers were driven off there were some others coming to them and they were jedi like the ones from their legends.

More time continued to go by and suddenly there was a great sickness spreading across the planet decimating their population before the darkness came. The cities said they had lost information and records which was not a risk to the Jotun who generally talked and told their stories over and over to each other. With the darkness continuing slowly they worked to try and repopulate the world again getting a leg up.

It was not much but as news that some explorers were going out to try and reconnect with the galaxy at large. They continued to work on many of the things trying to help the locals rebuild as finally word came and they saw the jedi order return to the world again reconstructing the jedi temple under Grandmaster ben Watts and the supreme chancellor. Asha Seran roamed on the world seeing some of the things they did.

With all of the work they had done to help rebuild to world came to an end with the rift of the netherworld opening and their repopulated species were decimated again dropping their number dangerously low to places that they hadn't seen since before the battle of Ruusan. With the other beings coming to the world they got some work to be transported off the world to try and repopulate on other planets around the galaxy just in case so they could not go extinct.

[member="Darth Prazutis"] not the entire species is and only a handful can use the force beyond their senses. Just percentages are hard and generally in the rp everyone or most are in that percentage that can do things.

Please specify what estimated amount of the species can do so, and make sure you put down that its an innate power since this species is not fully sentient and therefore cannot learn more force powers.

Intent: To make a fun and try out some new ideas for a species that doesn't have advanced technology but can still go around the galaxy.
I don't feel this is a sufficient enough intent.

I am a little puzzled by this section:

Magnify Senses
  • Innate ability of 70% of the species and cannot learn more force ability
  • 15% of the 70% within the species can learn and use the force

What do you mean by 15% of the 70%? Does this contradict your first point?

It is a number of how many can within the force sensitives of the species develop more. In the same way sith could use the darkside but only 3-4% of those darkside users could learn magic. (not counting chaos where any darksider is a magic user) A small percentage within with force sensitives of the species.

Apologies, I did not see your mention.

I'm still more than a little puzzled by this, but I suspect it doesn't matter much.

Leave the commentary out in future, please. I don't think you're the writer to make comments about appropriateness.
