Welcome, Freedom Fighters!
This is the Rebel Alliance faction advertisement, where we will answer questions you have before you even think to ask!
And if we don’t, we will answer questions you have after you think to ask!

Why are you the Rebel Alliance if there’s already a Republic?
The truth is that we’re not the “Alliance to Restore the Republic” as you may be used to. Born out of the old Galactic Liberation Collective (an abolitionist faction) we became more than just slave liberators--we became a group of freedom fighters who want to see the destructive powers of the galaxy brought down and give all people a chance to choose their own government.
We also want to eradicate the Sith. (Who doesn’t? :p)

So, are you against the Republic?
No, actually. They are our strongest allies, and we try to help them when we can.
We also have close ties with the Silver Jedi Order, the Mandalorians, and, recently, the Vitae Alliance.

Who are your enemies?
Currently we are in conflict with the Albrion Corporate Authority, the Primeval, the Lords of the Fringe, and (everyone’s favorite) the One Sith.
Relations with the Omega Protectorate are iffy at the moment.

Will I fit in with the Rebel Alliance?
Anyone who is not a Sith, does not uphold the values of ultranationalist factions, and believes in sentient rights to freedom may join the Alliance! We have a place for almost anyone, whether that be soldiers, pilots, captains, smugglers, explorers, medics, politicians, slicers, attorneys, scientists, farmers… The list goes on and on!

You didn’t mention Jedi. Why?
We love Jedi of all flavors! We just don’t believe in having a specific Order of Jedi.
In the Rebel Alliance, we view everyone as having equal standing, and segregating the Force users from the not-so-Force-gifted is detrimental to the unity we must have in order to survive in our battle against the forms of imperialism that threaten the galaxy. We all work side-by-side, just as Luke Skywalker fought alongside Wedge Antilles in dogfights and the Rebel troops on the ground.
This also helps for greater RP potential and makes sure no one feels left out!

So what can I do in the Rebel Alliance?
Lots of things! There is really almost a limitless spectrum of RP to be had!
Smuggling missions? Check.
Dogfighting and bombing missions with the famous Rogue Squadron? Check.
Commando raids? Check.
Guerilla warfare? Check.
Uprisings? Check.
Political debates? Check.
Medical emergencies? Check.
Creating businesses? Check.
Building things? Check.

Killing Sith??? CHECK.

How does the political stuff work for this faction? Aren’t you opposed to absolute control and expansionism?
Indeed, we are. But consider the Alliance as a guardian. It provides the military protection for its pledged worlds and humanitarian aid to all, along with paramilitary training. It also helps supply reformist movements with the tools they need to change their planet’s government and reinvigorate their society.

But isn’t there a Senate?
The Alliance does have a Senate. Its purpose is to determine the leadership and methods the Alliance uses, but not control the governments of its pledged worlds.
Any world (Yes, any!) may pledge itself to the Alliance, no matter if it is controlled by an opposing faction, neutral, or within the Alliance’s direct influence borders. Do your people want freedom from the hostile government that has claimed your planet? You and your fellow freedom seekers may join the Alliance as your planet’s representatives, and we will do the best we can to help liberate your world--or at least make it painful for the oppressive regime to keep control of. Just because a faction claims your planet as their territory does not mean they control it!
And when your planet is indeed liberated, we will do our best to protect it from attack in the future, upholding whatever society you have established after removal of the former rulers.

I hear a lot about this Selectivism thing when people talk about your faction. What is that, exactly?
Selectivism is a government system created by ‘Viola Tave’. It is a form of socialism that is akin to pure communism, and is the primary governing system of choice for a few of our members.

Communism? Why would you want that?
Communism is the polar opposite of fascism on the political spectrum. While its intention is good, it does indeed decay into a not-so-great thing more often than not.
So why does the Rebel Alliance--a group of freedom fighters--support such an idea? Because communism has never been seen before in this galaxy, and no one knows better… yet. :)
Besides, this galaxy has never seen a socialist movement took root before. It will be unique and fun!

So I have to be a commie, then? That doesn’t sound like my kind of thing.
Not at all! We allow (and support!) all sorts of political ideals, as long as they do not align with aggressive, authoritarian forms of government that so often plague this galaxy. Selectivism is just something that was started with Rebel characters, so it goes largely (and incorrectly) assumed that all of the Rebels are communists.
The truth is that we have opportunities for so many political beliefs--capitalists, socialists, constitutional monarchists, anarchists, minarchists, democrats, republicans… all trying to find the right way to do things through various paths. Some may work; others may not work out so well. But the people of each world are entitled to choose their own government, whatever it may be!
We'd actually love to have some new political agendas, so please bring them! :)

OOC, why should I join?
Because we’re just here to make something new and have fun with classic Star Wars action, as well as telling stories that don’t focus around the typical Jedi/Sith drama, but include everything and everyone. Many of us also enjoy world history, culture, and languages, and want to bring a lot of historically- and internationally-influenced material to the site. The best place to draw from for stories in a galaxy far, far away is often our own world experiences. :)
The best part is that everyone gets to decide what they want to do. The faction admins have never dictated what is and is not allowed, provided it does not destroy the faction's core OOC and IC values.

Sounds cool?

Hm, I'd be interested, but I need an in. I don't just like randomly popping up in a thread, I like some back story and continuity. She's on Ruusan, how does she link up with the Rebellion?

Ceska doesn't like the Sith nor the Dark Side and wants to take more direct action. Most of the Jedi are too passive for her taste.

Plus Rogues are cooler and all that stuff. If it's any consideration, I can promise lots of bombing runs as long as [member="Krasnaya Xue"] lets me. Pretty please?
Yeah. Honestly, I just want Knight status. If Ceska never becomes an esteemed Master of the Order isn't important to her, but rather fighting the Dark Side is. I'm personally more interested in story than ranks and higher level Force skills.

[member="Ceska Starshield"]

Glad to see we got you interested! :)

You can join us through various contacts. We have a network of people throughout the galaxy, so it's not unlikely that you'll find a Rebellion supporter in your neighborhood! And [member="Thane Drexel"] does like to tour the bars... :p Our pilots tend to get around the galaxy, and there's always a chance you'll run into... yeah, that [member="Solan Charr"] guy.

[member="Krasnaya Xue"], it seems that political discourse on issues of galactic concern once again gets glossed by the trivial conveniences of a FAQ in which answers are neatly provided to questions that fail to scratch the surface of real moral and ethical dilemmas which the galactic societies of your Alliance are faced with handling. Does your Senate have answers for them?

What is the Rebel Alliance position on universal healthcare? Do you support the droid equality movement? Force Ghost marriage? Legalization of spice?

Do you have a position regarding the question of whether the training and utilization of younglings by the Jedi Order constitutes the use of child soldiers? You listed the Galactic Republic, Order of Silver Jedi, and several other so-called "light side" factions as the allies of the Rebel Alliance. Yet, would it not be reasonable to say that those factions are not only condoning out right child slavery, but are in fact enabling the systematic exploitation of younglings for their own military and political benefit?

Does your proposal for Jedi to fight alongside the Rebels signal your own support for Padawan child slavery?

What happened to standards? What happened to bare minimums? Where's your politics at?

Selectivists joke playing around here. Damn.

If you want, my other character Darik is in need of Jedi training. He can come to Russan and link up with you. He's much more of the "Shoot first, shoot later, and then ask questions if they need asking" sort.
