THE CABAL

OOC:
A group of writers committed to bringing back good old fashioned crime to the galaxy. While mainly based in Hutt Space, our member base is far flung - from Bastion to Coruscant to Rishi.

We encourage friction between the various criminal gangs as they cling to what they've managed to gain, while setting their eyes on bigger prizes.

IC:
The Cabal came into being when five criminal enterprises colluded on Rorak 5 to form a mutual defense pact. Territory lines solidified. Bodies stopped dropping. The organizations achieved peace within the borders of their domains and turned their eyes on others.

Within the Cabal there still exists a great deal of cloak and dagger. Where before nobody would bat an eye if a Bareesh goon got dusted in the street by a Coratanni, now any sort of move against another organization has to be calculated and utterly hidden in shadow. If it were discovered that one enterprise were actively undermining another, the other members of the Cabal would be forced to turn on that enterprise.

The various enterprises are as follows:

Bareesh Kajidic
The Killers in the Street
Leaders: @Gorba the Hutt, [member="Nor'baal Durga Bareesh"]
“In ancient times, Bareesh was a powerful clan, but its strength has diminished greatly over the centuries. It still retains its ancient holdings on Nar Shaddaa and Nal Hutta, but it struggles to return to power. Hundreds of years ago, a massive supervolcano erupted on the clan’s throneworld of Kor Bareesh, burying much of the main continent in ash and lava. With its vaults and estates destroyed or buried and many influential clan leaders dead, the Bareesh kajidic struggled to remain profitable. Enemy clans took advantage of the chaos to take over Bareesh operations and holdings elsewhere. The Hutts of Bareesh are determined to return their clan to its former glory and status. They retain estates on Nal Hutta to keep involved in Hutt politics.”

Coratanni Cartel
The Knives in the Dark
Leaders: [member="Slevin Thawne"], [member="Natalia Thawne"]
Front: SIN Inc.
Being founded within the Rishi Maze, and holding to no laws of god or government, SIN is a Gomorrah among the stars. The company follows no moral code, seeks no oppression, and is content to let the wants of the people run wild. There is no judgement within SIN, no reckoning that will land, those who enter the doors of SIN go to live their dreams and are as free as when they were born.

As the Club expands and the company begins to shift forward SIN seeks to further it's hold within the entertainment industry, as well as the hearts and minds of its patrons.

Over the years SIN has grown to something truly tremendous, becoming more than just a club, but an entire sprawling operation. SIN has become something far more, it has grown into a small corporate empire capable of holding reach in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and entertainment. The Corporation continues to flourish and grow, seizing opportunity when it can and making partners enough to substantiate even further growth.

All throughout this SIN maintains a face of legitimacy, always hiding, always conducting it's business in the shadows.

The Exchange
The Whispers in the Shadows
Leader: [member="The Prince"]
Front: SEDC
From smuggling to the drug trade, from hits to extortion; the Exchange has a finger in every pie. Yet, they specialize in diplomacy. In a Galaxy full of madmen and the hungry, the Exchange focuses on equal cuts, equal opportunities and a neutral avenue for a price.

The Hawk's Circle

The Howl in the Wind

Leader: [member="Ar'ekk"]

Taking inspiration on its name by the legendary Ebon Hawk, The Hawk's Circle was founded in Nar Shaddaa as a premise to give those left behind years ago in the battlefield of Malachor V a warranted yet never given reward, becoming the initial instance to take what they believe belong to them after years of suffering for a lost cause that doomed their lives until now. Ranging from spice dealing to illegal gambling, this uprising criminal organization comprises of multiple former military members and hired thugs working for a young, ambitious and mysterious Force Sensitive individual whose motivation are credits and power within the Underworld.

Helix Syndicate
The Eyes in the Skies
Leader: [member="Tytos Ardik"]
The Helix Syndicate is the most pervasive and powerful criminal element present in the Pentastar Alignment. It is no longer a question of if planets in the Alignment feel the influence of the Syndicate upon it, but rather to what degree. At this stage in its growth, the Syndicate concerns itself with a multitude of operations. While not all of its operations are illegal, the methodology with which the Syndicate spreads its influence certainly is. Spying, blackmail, and extortion are the staple trades of the Syndicate. It uses its robust network of informants, listening posts, spy satellites, and corrupt officials to, essentially, rig favorable outcomes no matter what goals it decides to pursue. While there are certainly instances where the Syndicate does regular business with governments, these deals have almost always been as a result of the harassment or bribery of politicians.

Nadir
The Island in the Stars
Leaders: [member="Aver Brand"], [member="Loray Tares"]

Nadir represents everything its namesake and homebase stands for. Namely sex, drugs, and rock’n’r— just joking. That’d be murder, drugs, and slavery. At a glance, Nadir is reminiscent of any old criminal organization, but a thorough look quickly reveals the differences.

First, it’s impossible to define any kingpin leading the syndicate. A couple names float around, of course, associated with Nadir in reputation, but never with any hard evidence. To all but a chosen few, the station appears the same as it always was, except it’s stronger, faster, and better.

Second, the syndicate seems to employ few people of their own. By and large, they field the muscle, smugglers, and thieves of the Great Clans under their influence. (That is to say, all the Clans.) This makes it extremely difficult for potential attackers or spies to infiltrate their ranks, because, well, there are no ranks to infiltrate and no people to target.

Third, and perhaps the strangest, is their unusual business model. Where most cartels and gangs vie for turf in vicious wars, Nadir allows most anyone to live and work in their sphere. There is the profit tax, of course. And the protection fees. And the warehouse and real estate rent. And the casinos, and bookies, and hookers, and blow. Nothing good in life comes for free.
